  1. Im not disputing we need to improve at that position but do we really need a couple of elite tackles immediately into a rebuild? Maximising the value of the impending high pick we have would be going for a QB if there is one we love, then working to improve around that person in the years to come, now I’m not advocating Wylie Leno bad, but I’m sure we can improve on that without getting studs through the door in the first year
  2. Why in this scenario does it always play out that the O line isn’t improved? They can be mutually exclusive, we can improve at QB and O Line at the same time, if we take a QB they’re not then just gonna be playing behind the exact same O Line
  3. I’ve questioned Howell in here and copped some heat, there have definitely been times in here that he is been beyond question for some, I thought it was odd then, I think it’s even more odd now. Rightly or wrongly I’m not sure I’ve ever seen an NFL player more excused than him, and I don’t even dislike him I think he’s alright, but I think drafting an alternative should definitely be on the table.
  4. The principle of building a roster and then adding the franchise QB last seems so idealistic to me, it seems to get lost in that fantasy that by the time you’ve built any kind of decent roster it makes getting one in the draft near impossible unless you give RG3 level trade bait or pay over the odds in FA If Howell isn’t the QB of the future get aggressive for one of these coming out this year
  5. Cheeseman 😂 his only job is to bend over and throw a ****ing ball, that’s his 9 - 5 Monday to Friday and 3 hours on a Sunday and he STILL can’t do it, that’s actually kinda funny
  6. So now that Brissett is balling are the O Line and Receivers still bad? Asking for a friend
  7. I like to think I’ve been patient before coming to a conclusion on the season, I find much of the it’s anyone’s fault but Sam’s attitude quite tedious, yes the O line has been bad, yes the receivers have been bad, and yes if we’re being frank Sam has been bad too of late. The kid clearly does have some ability, but enough to ignore Williams, Maye or Daniels? I wouldn’t be so sure. Here’s hoping that he can ball out the last few weeks! Just don’t win!!
  8. Seriously is there any chance Chicago can legitimately talk themselves into Fields for another year? He clearly has ability
  9. The GM might not fancy Howell, in which case it’s unlikely we’ll be back in the Top 5 of the draft again any time soon so the compensation down the road to get what they deem to be QB1 would be more extortionate than it would be this time round, take your man and begin to build around him.
  10. That Justin Fields is a belting player, the Bears would be a fool to move on from him, or is that just wishful thinking 😅
  11. All that talk about culture in recent years and you’ve got a team captain/‘leader’ openly advocating for leaving the franchise. The guy has talked a good game for sometime but when the push comes to shove he’s just as mid as the rest. Happily trade Payne and Allen, and move on from Kam Curl. The only one that will sting a bit is Terry but I’m happy to fully rebuild it all.
  12. I’m not sure it’s discrediting Howell to say he’s not reached the heights that Kirk or Carr have reached in their careers, he hasn’t. I think Sam has been ok to fairly good, he’s been dealt a bad hand but at times hasn’t really helped himself. In fairness to the kid it’s a compliment to say I doubt we would be back in the top 5 any time soon if he had a better O Line. But if the GM loved Daniels then I’m all about it.
  13. SF66, right now I'd be hard pressed to defend Carr but based on Carr's NFL career Sam has a long way to go to stay alongside him. Thing is if you isolate the situation we find ourselves in down to just our need then of course I'd 100% agree that offensive line is the biggest need we have, but when you look at the situation as a whole, Washington being in the top 5 of the draft the decision then becomes less about the biggest need and more about whether or not Jayden Daniels has a higher ceiling / better suitability to the new regime than Sam Howell. We have an abundance of need to the point where we just simply aren't going to fix it all in one off season, and I don't expect us to, but if the new regime feel Daniels is the better player or will be then I'd be happy to strike now while we are in the position we are in rather than risk fading into mid draft obscurity with no chance of a QB in the future Ala the Ron years (on the whole)
  14. Something I see banded around frequently is that Sam Howell is 'Kirk Cousins / Derek Carr' level. The disrespect to those two guys is wild, reality is Howell has not shown that level of talent yet, whether you think the O Line is to blame, or the WR's, or Bienemy, or anyone but Sam, he still hasn't shown that level yet.
  15. Another thing to consider, how likely is it if we draft O line that we will be back in the top 5 of the draft any time soon? Entirely possible then that Howell might still be ok but we come in at around 10 - 15 next year and well out of range for a QB and the show goes on and on and on.
  16. @Skinsinparadise, your posts this morning are on the money, saying many of the things I think myself but am useless at actually vocalising in posts. I like Sam, but I want the new GM to explore all options that could take this franchise forward, that includes reaching out to the Bears to check on what they want for 1 overall. If they fall in love with a Daniels then pull the trigger and draft him, no time for emotion, just pure focus on what they feel will improve this franchise. If it shakes out that the compensation to go up is too much, and the GM doesn't believe what's left has the potential to be any better than Howell in the long run then we can look at other positions / maybe even a trade back depending on circumstances. Either route feels quite exciting when paired with the new hires and vast cap space.
  17. The O Line or lack of one is playing a part in his struggles no doubt about it, but to fully absolve him of responsibility is incredibly naive. Not sure I've seen enough to build a franchise around and would be pleased if we got aggressive in the draft for a Williams or Maye, BUT wouldn't be disappointed if Sam is QB1 next season and gets another shot.
