Reception Perception (Matt Harmon) has a free article giving out his various superlatives at WR.  Dotson noted for best hands and best at beating zone, plus an honorable mention for best in the slot.

Olave awarded best at beating press @KDawg

What's more is he has no problem going right at the teeth of the defense when they're in zone, which should open things up for his teammates by pulling the coverage apart. We had no way of dictating anything with our route combos because opponents knew they could man up anyone not wearing a number 17 jersey and get away with it. Hopefully that changes now.

Thanks for sharing and I don't doubt for a second that he dominated vs collegiate press. Just like Desmond Howard, he didn't win every time. WRs tubes never show their failures which flashes us back to the Dan Snyder/Vinny school of GMing. Love the wingspan and it'll help for sure. What will also help, dominating vs NFL press and earning some respect early in his career.

Have the rules been changed a smidge since the mid 90s?

Sure...  if you first find me Desmond Howard college vids getting jammed and shutdown in his tHeismann year. Kidding aside no matter the tape life is MUCH harder for WRs vs NFL corners.  And lets be honest, the only highlights of WRs are their best plays. I don't know the names of all the corners he played against to find him getting jammed but I would venture a guess, he did get stuffed at the LOS at some points in his collegiate career.   How's his blocking?

This is simply not true. I posted a highlight reel in his welcome thread and you can see him beating the press there. He might be 5’11 but that’s mitigated by his wingspan

I don't know the medicals on Dean but if its nothing really bad, it would be really interesting if he falls to that spot.  The RBs I covet but I suspect they might be gone.

If they traded back a little, i wouldn't hate McBride

It's his athletic testing IMO. Hard to tell how far he'll fall, but is he Navarro Bowman?

Dotson doesn't seem like the kind of receiver Wentz needs -- he's small-sized and doesn't seem physical enough for those high 50-50 contested passes that Went routinely serves up.

So now we have one more small "smurf" WR to add to Washington's current mix of slender/slot-sized WRs plus 2 quasi-4th rounders, to show for having voluntarily dropped out of the blue-chip zone?

While I'm sure Dotson will make some nice catches at times, which the Washington hype machine will then use to make this guy seem to be the next coming of the "ultimate receiver" - it seemed to me he was a more like a consolation reach when RonCo's trade-down plans unravelled. It almost seems a bit of a desperation move.

Again, 7 of the top 10 in receiving yards are 6'1 or shorter.

  6. Watching some more highlights now and two things really jumped out. First, the instant separation, and I do mean instant. His 0-60 is just silly, and he'll take off right into the teeth of the defense. Second, changing up speeds in his routes. He's genius at it, which is a lot more savvy than you'll typically see in a college receiver's game.

You can always tell who only follows the TV shows and who watches these prospects based on the comments.

People don’t understand how similar Dotson/Olave are.

The biggest weakness Dotson have that Olave excels at is getting off the press. But while he works on his hands for that, we can utilize short motions and off the line alignments. And watching film Dotson’s feet look alright from what I see. Needs to use his hands better.

Otherwise Dotson and Olave have the same strength: route running and finding holes in zones.

Olave doesn’t break tackles. Literally doesn’t break them. He has like 2 in his entire college career.

Dotson is MUCH better at that. He is a scrappy player who runs through arm tackles.

    Dotson 4.43. Olave 4.39.

    Thats it. Very similar prospects.

I think Dotson’s physicality makes him the better player.

Watching some of Dotson's highlights it didn't look like he was pressed all that much which is understandable from the perspective of most B10 defensive playcallers. My assumption is they think it's something he has all the tools to get the hang of. I'd be really intrigued to see his cut up against Ohio State and Michigan.

    Common sense and intuitive reasoning.

And here I thought actual scouts were doing it right watching film year round when all they have to do is read a couple tweets and watch a couple YouTube highlights. Imagine the time they could all save.

    Great hands.

He finds holes in zones like Olave. A step slower. Breaks tackles and plays like a man, whereas Olave doesn’t break tackles. M

I think he’s better than Olave. But by a hair. He’s fun to watch.

Best comp is a guy who plays like Santana Moss.

No that can’t be true sorry but if he’s not talked about on Good Morning Football he can’t play. Hate the pick.

Sooooo..I mean, you could have had Hamilton at 11 and called it a day.  Trade back and risk losing him?  Fine.

But that would mean you have to have a guy or two out there that you like as much as Hamilton.  I mean, it was a lock that a defensive focused team like the Ravens would take him.

So they valued Dotson as much as Hamilton?  Or nearly as much?  I can't believe that.

    And the Doctson PTSD.

I ****ing hate this team.  I hate this team.

How much Jahan Dotson film have you watched?
