They drafted the 160lb guy to be cB1.

    How’s that working out?

Not saying they made the right choice. I said above that it's more likely they have to draft another player to be the CB1.

But I can tell you that BSJ will not get an extension this off season.

Have you forgotten that BSJ, at his size, can also man the slot? Do you realize that makes us one of the few teams that has an answer for big slot receivers like Kupp.

What BSJ needs is to jam more at the LOS given his size and play with more confidence. The only thing he lacks is great deep speed - he is 6-3, long, has elite quickness at that size and is a smart player who studies his ass off. He is already starting caliber corner where he’s at with the potential to get to another level. I’m excited to see what he can do in a new scheme with better coaching

He is a top extension candidate for me this offseason.

What are you his agent? Feeling the love.

You're not going to pay a nickel corner good money.

    Thank your for this.

Ok, so say what you will about PFF but I said the two clearly best players on the D based on the eye test were Fuller and Curl, and this checks out.

Good grief. Literally only two guys over a 70. No wonder we suck on defense.

I would assume Sweat was graded well.

But yes, Payne/Allen and Jamin in the 80s would be game changing.

I like him as a solid #2 outside CB. He's too handsy and not enough of a playmaker to be on #1s but he should be able to play well against most #2s and he's a good matchup against some of the bigger stronger WRs.

I think you want your CB1 to be on the X, and that player is often a better physical specimen....and therefore it really doesn't make sense to have BSJ unless he can become a CB1.

It's not as simple as saying that since he is not a legit CB1, then obviously he's a better than average CB2. I legitimately think they are different positions in today's NFL. Even more so the case for nickel and dime corners too.

I think you are remembering Fuller now but not remembering the Fuller from the first half of 2021 and first half of 2022 who got smoked on the regular. I became a BSJ fan early last season when they played the Eagles the first time and he played competently against Brown and Smith. The tools are absolutely there with the smarts, the size, the length and the elite quickness for a man his size, which allows him to play in the slot. With better coaching from a real secondary coach (not a guy JDR scooped up from a high school), I think that guy can help BSJ build his confidence so that he doesn’t have to be as grabby and he does a better job looking back for picks.

You guys have to remember that he didn’t actually play a lot of college football given the injuries he dealt with at Michigan

I just looked up their rating on PFF and one is evaluated as a great starter and the other below-average/replacement level.

It's BSJ vs Forbes for the CB1 and I don't see how St-Juste wins. More likely both are not the guy and they'll have to go back to the draft well.

I'm sure someone with access to those sites could show me that the eye test of Curl and Fuller being the best players checks out for analytics.

Its not fair but I have kind of written off Mathis. Not this fault, I like the player I just didn't like the pick into a position of strength in the 2nd round so I am jaded.  A run stopper jogging off after the 1st 1st and 10 of the day and then only see him on 4th and 1s after a timeout... 2nd rounder on defensive player should be damn close to an all down guy.

His career has been derailed by injury coupled with being buried on the depth chart.. I too haven't seen him make a notable play.  I know he recovered a fumble at the goal line vs Philly at the bottom of the pile, but nothing at all that I have seen. If he has a true block eating NT so that Mike can eat, I would notice that. I think its not just him but Allen and Payne too are told to rush in lanes occupy blockers etc.. JDR doing out front 4 NO favors in his non aggressive scheme.

That pick was questioned at the time and only rational if they were moving on from Payne, but they didn't.

    Mathis is clearly a bust.

The 2nd round should be reserved for a starter and he is one the three worst players of that round.

It's awful any way you look at it: depth chart, team needs, available talent.

BSJ is less of a playmaker than Kendall but is the better player in my opinion. Out of the two, he is better able to challenge #1 receivers and can also play the nickel. Kendall is also old. He is a guy I would, for sure, look to extend. I think, with better coaching, he’ll figure out how to be less handsy

I don't see that. There have been a handful of plays that Fuller would want back, but otherwise it's been an incredibly strong season.

While I didn't mind re-signing Fuller, he was definitely not someone that I thought was going to be as good as he has been.

For context: I was part of the crowd that was okay with getting rid of him for Alex Smith, which had me in the small minority, and he wasn't great in Kansas City. This second time through he has established himself as a very good #2 corner in this league.

The plays that he makes on screens and the running game are very impressive. And I think his coverage has been very solid. He's going to get beat by the best guys because he's not a true number one.

To me, it's been obvious that Fuller and Kurl have been the best players on defense this year. And that's good, but definitely not a great thing.

  6. Stop it guys.....you don't trade Payne or Allen.

Contract wise you can only move.on from Allen and you probably wait until after the '24 season in the last year of his deal (where there is $6M dead cap).

    1.5-2.5 more years of Allen.

    What's the issue here?

You don't need the cap enough to make the move. Howell's contract will hit '25-'26 and after. No other player warrants a big extension.

Kam, Cosmi and Jamin should get second deals, but they won't be top tier contracts. Maybe St-Juste too, but I would rather Fuller get the CB2 spot.

I'm not interested in teams running all over this team...we've seen that in recent past before the DTs improved, and it was not enjoyable to watch.

  7. I'll take Bill here.

    In a heartbeat.

There's enough talent to work with here, and we know he'll have most of his preferred coordinators and position coaches available.

If they get a GM who can draft better, they have enough for Bill to get them to the SB in a year or two.

Let's not kid ourselves: Bill with a top QB is a shoe-in for a deep playoff run, and the numbers are saying that Sam is one of them.

Gibson can fill the Samuel role of #3 WR/gadget weapon. He'll be younger and likely cheaper. He's also a legit KR threat.

I hadn't thought of that, and it would be interesting. Either way, Samuel's contract is up and he won't come back.

I hope the next staff lets Dotson be the slot receiver and be the punt returner

Dotson should be the slot to maximize his impact. It is as clear as day. And Terry should be the Z to maximize his, hence the need for a large X receiver.

If Mike Shanahan were here, he'd get the best bang for our buck out of Terry by converting him to TE. Ron should try it, we need more swiss army knives and offensive weapons

If Shanahan was here the offense would be cooking and the OL would actually be decent. Terry would absolutely thrive in a Shanahan offense.

Been playing around on draft games tonight a little bit. Would you trade both of our 2nd's to trade up for Bowers if he dropped a little bit? That possibility has happened a couple of timed. I've been drafting Latham at 11 then trading back up to 15-18 to draft Bowers. I think I would do that.

Don't think they will trade up into the first.

Trade up on day 2 is possible, but they need those picks.

I think it's Bowers vs Coleman/Odonze vs OT

    Be a great debate.

I disagree with you regarding the 3rd round, especially the back half. It is hard to find Day 1 starters at any position there.

For interior OLs taken in the back half of day 3,

2023- Stromberg was the only guy

2022 - Dylan Parham was a Day 1 starter but he was below average, Sean Rhyan is a backup and Logan Bruss got cut before the starter of the season

2021 - Wyatt Davis is a backup, Kendrick Green got shipped out before the season for sucking, Ben Cleveland sits on the bench and Quinn Meinerz is a stud

So, you have 1 stud, 1 average starter and a bunch of backups.

I would trade that comp pick we got for Chase and use that as a means of moving up in the 1st or 2nd if there is a player the new FO wants  and needs to move up.

The six lineman drafted in the third round of '22 before Rhyan are starting. Bruss drafted after looks like a bust and then a couple more players contributing from the early 4th and 49ers have a starter from the late 4th.

Maybe not comp 3rd late on Day 2, but 3rd Rnd seems strong for IOL. Maybe not year 1, but at least by year 2.

I really wanted Cole Turner to be something, but he has 12 targets all year and has 1 catch in the last 5 weeks.

Yes, it is a bit disappointing. Upside is the #3. Realistically probably the 4th TE if Armani is healthy.

I think that's where the strategy has been frustrating because it would make a lot more sense to draft an IOL or a blocking tight end at that point in the draft.

My philosophy has always been to draft a star in the first round. You have to find one. Your Watt > Kerrigan scenario.

Day 2 is for starters at key positions.

Round 4 is for a key role player.

Round 5 and 6 is for role players.

    Round 7 throwing a dart.

    Using this logic:

    Forbes is your star*

Quan - starting FS/Buffalo (could be good)

    Ricky - starting C in '24**

    Daniels - Project LT/LG***

Henry - Development rotational DE (fine)

Rodriguez - taking over RB2 in '24 (good)

Jones Jr - situational pass rusher (good)

*Let's pretend he will redeem himself for the sake of argument

**Bad pick unless he is a very good starter. Need an instant starter if you're drafting IOL on Day 2.

***In theory I like taking the athletic, long arm, shorter in height tackles on the line because Howell is a shorter quarterback and you have to factor that in.

Daniels is a gamble that I understand. Projects are tough and the early return was not promising. We'll know by the end of next season or early in the following if he has an NFL future.

Coleman is my dream pick among realistic picks. It looks like he could fall to 10 ish and if we're sitting around 12 I'd definitely consider trading up to snag him.

Bowers is good but my stance on TEs in round 1 is clear.

Don't they have someone in the front office now who said the tight end was one of the most undervalued positions? Maybe knowing that they go after one in the mid rounds, but who knows?

I can see need matching up with talent with either Coleman or Odunze.

    X - Coleman

    Z - McLaurin

    Slot - Dotson

    Y - Logan / Armani or Turner

    U - Bates

Rather just the one upgrade. Trying to be realistic. And I favor keeping Logan next year too.

I like that we're using Gibson more in space now. He's actually not bad in that role and I wouldn't mind extending him if we keep using him like that.

He just needs to understand when and when not to run out of bounds. Always doing the wrong thing.

  14. Just now, KDawg said:

Partially. Also letting 10 seconds run after the Gibson play instead of calling timeout immediately.

I think that is at first not realizing that Gibson didn't go out, and then Gibson giving the ball to the sideline instead of running it to the middle. But yeah not ideal, however in hindsight it would have been great to have run more time off the clock.

We are probably picking 8 to 15?

    Ot, DE, and possibly Te.

I figure a few OTs will go early but Bowers could be there because of the injury. I like Fuaga for this team more than others in part due to height and desire to improve RT.

    1. Bowers (TE)
    2. Coleman (WR)
    3. Fuaga (RT)
    4. Odunze (WR)

Would not be shocked of they draft a tall receiver with the round 1 pick. Protect Sam by giving him better targets or protection. One or the other.

Bienemy is a winner,  a multiple Super Bowl winner, and is turning Howell into a superstar. Howell is a winner. I would rather see what Bienemy and Howell can do the rest of the season without Ron holding things up. We already have a terrible Defensive Coordinator, we don't need two terrible defensive coordinators. Let Ron go and let's go with Bienemy.

How do you figure giving Bienemy the entire team to manage is going to help the O perform better?

  17. 1 minute ago, Tyler Spiers said:

They should fire Ron today and hand the keys to Bienemy this week. He couldn't do any worse and then we can see if Bienemy is the answer. The two blown timeouts was the final straw, it was only because of Howell's awesomeness that Ron was bailed out there.

    It could certainly be worse.

Right now Bienemy is trying to prove he can manage one side almost exclusively. The O has mostly exceeded my expectations, particularly with the sacks getting figured out. You want to see him grow through the season and keep his focus there.

And that is what makes the D so awful because you have Ron and JDR not figuring it out.

  18. 2 minutes ago, CapsSkins said:

I don't see how what you said conflicts with what I said.

A WR contract for an OL is two changes on O, but I expect mostly the same starters.

    Leno - Wiley/'24 - Ricky/'24 - Cosmi - Wiley/FA

I don't think much will change tbh.

They need players in the pipeline, but I expect much of the same for starters.

  19. 1 hour ago, CapsSkins said:

Outside of Howell, nobody on this team is untouchable.

Some contracts are moveable and some aren't, some players you want to keep around more than others, but there is a straight up deficit of talent on this roster at every position other than QB and DT.

    I don't buy this.

    1. Curtis Samuels' deal will be swapped for an OL
    2. Get a playmaker on O or D* in the 1st Rnd
    3. Draft a legit Mike linebacker
    4. Draft a minimum of three OL.
    5. Figure out Forbes
    6. Keep Fuller and Curl at DB.
    7. Hope Quan is a starting FS
    8. Pray for a bounce back year from Terry and Jahan, and Allen and Payne.

*Witherspoon was incredible. So an impact player anywhere close to him on D would be excellent.

  20. 2 minutes ago, Koolblue13 said:

Cause you don't cut long snappers. He'll be okay.

There's just so few that are consistent. Think of how many snappers in college, and while many are disqualified because of size, it's crazy that there aren't more to choose from.

Between Danny falling and Percy not being able to cap another play that turns into a long TD....was such a brutal moment in the game (and where I am at in the recording currently).

This team is so fortunate to have Howell. The future would be looking real rough without him.

Still not seeing what I want from Terry and Jahan so far, but more game to be played.

  21. It could be either or as far as who ran the wrong route.

If Jahan's defender doesn't get in Terry's way, he probably has a shot at that. I generally have more faith in Terry knowing the O, but who knows?

Both need to get better as the season goes on. Very similar to the Allen (Terry) with the injured start and Payne (Dotson) where there is a lack of consistency and focus.
