Something's never change. Whatever the era. Whatever the manager. Leeds be a sly, dirty side. Ingrained in the club from Revie on and they revel in it.

Some of the nasty challenges aside (how was that NOT a peno on Wijmaldum BTW? Or hand ball just before it?)

We're in your face and physical. In no way were we dirty tonight I thought. One yellow card. Would've been a terribly soft penalty too.

Best away fans in Anfield this year? :)

  2. How did they give MOM to a Liverpool player after that? :D

Great performance. Not sure how we didn't take some of those chances tbf. Proud as **** though. Played with zero fear. 7 first team players missing and gave them every bit as good as they got.

Bigger game is Villa on Saturday anyway. Theres a genuine promotion charge in this team. I'm sure of it.

  3. Not bad so far. Best chance of the game my an absolute mile fell to us and should have been taken. Game is very winnable.

Just worried about us as the legs tire. Not helpful that we've had to use the one sub already too. Guessing Doukara and Dallas will need taking off sooner rather than later.

Nice to hear a decent atmosphere in Anfield for a change.

All relative. There was still a good chunk the went Leeds way. Just your finances were in such carnage you didn't have it to play with on the squad.

    Hail.

Aye and the large chunk of it that landed in Ken Bates pocket unfortunately.

Makes it more frustrating there was (and still is in many areas) absolute carnage going on at Elland Road when you had all that money to aid getting back up huh?

    Hail.

The complete turnover in our squad when we got relegated will never be seen again though. Literally kept one player in Gary Kelly from our promotion side and spent one million that summer. Miracle that we stayed up that year really. We never had money coming in like clubs do these days though with the parachute payments too. Newcastle spent 57 million this summer. Embarrassment of riches at this level.

  6. A Rob Green howler aside, I felt we competed pretty well. Obviously when you have 40 million coming in on player sales over the summer you're going to have more quality. Stevie Wonder could manage Newcastle to the top of the Championship realistically. Premier League money gonna keep making it harder and harder for other teams to get promoted from the championship.

Don't sleep on Kovalev's boxing ability. Not saying he's Ward, but  he's no slouch.

No doubt. Range will be key in this fight. Ward gets inside and he can win this more comfortably than expected I reckon. If Kovalev has the strength to keep him off and keep the fight at mid range it gives him the advantage. Kovalev is a really good boxer though. It isn't your typical boxer v power fighter at all.

This is the best fight in a long long time. Can't wait for it.

What if the UFC tries to expand to Russia?

As in have the event on in Russia? Don't see why McGregor as the champ should have to defend his title in Russia. Surely if anything it'd be in Croke Park, Dublin which they've been talking about for ages. 100k UFC event.

If they simply raise more awareness of the UFC in Russia and I still don't think they'd travel to events in America.  Eastern Europeans in general don't really travel. Case in point being the lack of demand for tickets for Sergey Kovalev (Russian boxer) v Andre Ward next weekend. Biggest fight in boxing of the year and tickets are readily available at face value. Put an Irish boxer in that fight and tickets are like gold-dust.

Yeah called him chicken. Khabib funny, said something about Conor and Ireland only having 6 million people while he has all of Russia and its 100 million people behind him. Khabib could be like Fedor but even more popular

Our population is actually only 4.5 million but theres Irish everywhere. Big Irish communities in the likes of NYC. Do you really think despite the lobsided population numbers that the Russians would outnumber the Irish at a CM - Khabib fight? We outnumber Americans on their own soil. Without blowing our own trumpet, no country backs their own sporting stars like we do. Zero chance the Russian contingent outnumber the Irish as they just won't travel.

Just because you keep saying it, doesn't make it true.  I'm looking back at the conversation during and after the fight, and I see unbiased commentary, and amazement at his skill - even from Doc.  Aside from you misinterpreting Taylor, twisting his praise in to an insult, the conversation was quite even-keeled amongst the regulars.

But you're right, it isn't even-keeled right now.  We have Conor's brother Jim posting under Morrison J.

SU, me, and a few other regulars in the thread didn't even post during the fight.  I think the dude's left hand is Jeebus, his overall striking game is really good, he's tough, and I voice that in every fight of his.  I notice most of us doing the same for the most part.  There are some critics here and there about this and that, but most of us know what's up at the end of the day - Conor is a beast.

Hopefully that settles this embarrassingly biased narrative you've swooped in here with.  I want to get back to constantly talking **** about Conor and how I think he threw Chong Li's powder in to Eddie's eyes.

I'm just saying what I see after each McGregor fight on here. No need to get so defensive

Not...really.  I'd say this thread is remarkably even-keeled compared to MMA forums.  That is, until a famous fighter has a fight and everyone comes out of the woodwork to bash each other.

There's no denying he has a lot of talent and a ton of swagger.

This thread is not even-keeled whatsoever :ols:

Every excuse in the book comes out when he wins and every win he gets is a robbery, fluke or because his opponent is ****/didn't have a full camp. That's a fact.

This pretty much happens every time Connor fights, J. You get too emotional about it. I just said Connor is leagues above the champ of a division and you're still upset. He's an extremely talented fighter but Alvarez had no business trading shots with him and most MMA fans could've told you that before the fight started. The key for Alvarez was to take him down and he thought he could outbox him and then he got hurt and it was too late.

I'm definitely not upset right now :)

I was only pissed off after the last Conor fight because people tried to make a case for Diaz winning when Conor clear as day won 3 rounds.

Just making this thread a bit impartial that's all. it's very anti-McGregor tbf.

I just said the champ of a division had no business being in the octagon with him. How much more credit could I give him J?

Concentrating on the opponent instead of giving credit to the fighter who's just made history? You're playing down what he's done whichever way you look at it.

  14. Remember that game well. Snodgrass ran the show and Mascherano should've been sent off for an elbow on Beckford in the first half. Since we've been down we've always tended to put up a good battle when we draw the higher end Prem teams.
