Jacobs' handspeed gave GGG some problems.  Canelo's hands are not as fast, but quick enough to do some damage.  He's also a better counter puncher than Jacobs, GGG will give him opportunities to land

GGG has showed some of his age his last couple of fights.  He's still incredibly dangerous, but he's not infallible like he was just a couple of years ago.  Waiting for the fight may ultimately be Canelo's best strategy

I think it's a case of GGG's recent fights being ultra deceiving. Kell Brook and Danny Jacobs have rotted the minds of people in relation to this fight imo. Canelo brings a completely different skill set to the table. He won't win rounds from the outside. He's going to have to get into the pocket and GGG is going to stuff him with a jab every single time. Just like he did to Lemieux. Canelo has a terrible time with fighters with an accurate jab like Trout, Lara and Mayweather. He has a hard time getting past it and Golovkin's jab is the best he's ever faced. The Jacobs that fought GGG probably beats Canelo and all imo.

Canelo is coming off wins against the undersized Khan and Liam Smith as well as the corpse of Chavez. Obviously he was going to look good in those fights. They're fooling a lot of people though because fighting GGG is a different story altogether.

I think GGG fights a very methodical fight, for the first six rounds or so anyway. Cuts the ring off and lets Canelo's slow feet do a lot of work before he eventually wears Canelo down and takes him late.  When Canelo does his usual thing of tiring late on and sitting against the ropes GGG will put it on him good and proper. If Liam Smith can push Canelo up against the ropes and land on him I can't wait to see GGG do the same. Only difference is Canelo will get stopped taking those big shots by GGG.

Before the Jacobs fight, i would have GGG as an overwhelming favorite, but i think that fight showed some holes Canelo should be able to exploit

Not sure who i'm picking yet

How does Canelo do anything that Jacobs did in that fight though? He doesn't have the size, reach, power or feet that Jacobs does.

Very confident GGG wins this. Canelo doesn't have the feet to stay out of harms way imo. Late stoppage win for Golovkin.

  3. I think this might finally be Leeds' year

Unbelievable squad we've assembled. Battered Burton yesterday 5-0. 30 shots to 1. Not seen a Leeds' team since like this since the Prem days.

No doubt it'll all end in tears.

Wonder how that Irish member that posts for Connor fights in the mma thread thinks this is gonna go.

    :ols:

Hes the ultimate homer for his fellow countryman.

    Am I? :ols:

I'm not even a massive McGregor fan at all. Just an awful lot of nonsense spoken about him in the MMA thread. People saying he clearly lost the Diaz 2 fight and stuff.

Delighted that farce is over with tbh. Crazy the number of people who bought into it as a potentially competitive fight. Glorified spar for Floyd.

  5. Great win for Chelsea that. I think they'll be fine. Enough quality in that team to get by before Hazard comes back. Probably need 1/2 signings to be sure. Conte is a brilliant manager.

Pochettino continues to show why he is not a coach capable of winning trophies or the league.

Very harsh. Not sure what you'd have against Pochettino. Doing an unbelievable job with limited resources compared to the other big teams in the division.

  6. There are some truly awful teams in the Premiership this year. This Newcastle team will be doing well to stay up. Can't see Benitez lasting the season.

Brighton, West Ham, Swansea all have woeful squads.

Hate to say it but Man utd look a lock For the top 4 this year.

    They've bought very well.

I can't backtrack when the evidence is in the thread tbf. Prediction made in 2014 so I said 2014 :)

There's a 100% chance it was Spurs last year.  Almost positive about the year before as well, but not entirely.

Utd didn't finish top 4 that year did they?  That was David Moyes' year in 2014.

We both may have picked Chelsea for 2015, I think I said they wouldn't lose a game that year.

I'd need evidence of that. I remember saying they play the best football in the division which I'd still stand by to this day. Pretty sure I never picked them to win the league outright though. Happy to be proven wrong on that.

In 2014/15? They finished 4th. Van Gaal's first year.

I'm going back sometime this week to see that you haven't picked a winner since MAYBE City 2014... even then I think you'd picked United.

Glad you're off of Spurs, though.

    Please do. I'd be interested.

I was on the Chelsea bandwagon all of last year I'm pretty sure tbf. Other people shot me down.

Only had Man Utd to finish in the top 4 in 2014, which they did. Haven't picked them to win a league since Ferguson left.

    Unfortunately didn't pick Leicester in 2016 :(

  10. Don't think seasons are lost in September though.

Best starting eleven in the league imo and by a fairly wide margin over the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Man Utd. I honestly think there's a decent drop in quality after Chelsea, Man City and Spurs. That's the top 3 for me in some order.

Costa didn't even play that well last year. Second half of the season he was sub par most of the time I saw him. I don't think Morata will be any downgrade on what you had last year.

A couple of signings will be made to help the strength in depth no doubt but having the likes of Willian coming in to replace Pedro is pretty good tbf.

Also in relation to Spurs, they are a young team so every player is only going to get better and Trippier is no downgrade on Walker. Once Wembley doesn't effect them too much they'll be up there competing again. Too much quality not to.

I've no idea why anyone has Man Utd finishing in the top 3. Ibrahimovic to Lukaku is a downgrade and Matic is fine but not gonna change them drastically. Can't see them being anywhere near title contenders.

Liverpool looked quite ready for the season to start, well done.  May have to amend my preseason prediction and move liverpool up to finishing 2nd. Still think City, under the current setup in the PL, can walk to the title.

With Neymar saying his good byes hopefully Barca will act on Coutinho quick!

Massively underrated your own lads and Spurs imo. Chelsea will 100% be up there. Squad way too strong for them not to be. The Wembley factor is a worry for Spurs but they've such a good squad I think they definitely still finish top 4 and maybe hand around for a title run. If still in WHL I'd fancy them to give it a right go. Such a strong squad.

  12. Broner just went life and death with Adrian Granados without draining himself at the weight. I think Garcia will come out of this fight a superstar. Proper breakout fight for him. He's P4P good.

Spurs playing great again tonight. Sure have been the most entertaining team to watch in the league this year.

    This x1000

I hardly ever miss a Spurs game these days. So good to watch. Pochettino is the best manager in the league in my opinion. They'd want to pray they hold on to him.

Mikey Garcia vs. Jorge Linares is going to be damn good when it happens

A fight that really needs to happen this summer. Garcia stops him late for me though. Freakish power for the weight.

  15. Can see GGG fighting like he did against Lemieux and winning behind the jab. Eventually grinding Jacobs down to win in round 8/9.

Michael Conlan makes his pro debut tonight and has sold out the MSG theatre. Pretty impressive. Top Rank are gonna make him into a superstar and he has the talent to back it up.

  16. I'm just edging towards Thurman but Garcia has got a few gifts in his career and I wouldn't rule it out happening again given its bound to be close. Great fight.

Fully expecting Haye to blast Bellew out of there early. Complete mismatch.
