I did really think about it and it does make sense, and I'm hardly the only person it makes sense to. You just don't like it because you like Heinicke.

lol I usually like whoever the QB is execpt when we put Mark Sanchez in.  I was out on that move.  Your really using the "you like Heinickie" club as defense.  I was happy about getting Wentz I remember us struggling in the redzone with him as well.  He tried to throw a 1 yard TD against the Titans and it got intercepted in a tight window, and Wentz might have the strongest arm in the league.

I think your trying to say that I like Heinickie and it clouds my evaluation of him however, I think my evaluation of him is spot on.  Deep outs and deep middle are how he limits the offense. The redzone issues arent because of his physical limitations.  There are to many other factors that have caused those issues.

I didn't say Heinicke's physical limitations is the ONLY reason (in lowercase or caps). I said I think it's the main issue. Our OL hasn't been any different in the red zone than any other area of the field. You don't have to have a cannon to score in the red zone, but a weak arm is absolutely a hindrance due to the compressed field and having more defenders in a smaller area.

I think the red zone play calling mostly reflects the fact that Turner knows Heinicke's limitations and is game planning around them. Which is what an OC is supposed to do. Turner certainly isn't perfect but I think he's mostly doing the best with what he has and has been able to get pretty good results with a limited QB.

You did say it was the main issue though.  Which I think is wrong, there a a lot of issues as I just mentioned.  Running in the redzone is huge, our O-line gets very little push.  Both Gibson and Robinson have insane yards after contact this year.  Also, our complete inability to run screen plays is a massive hindrance in the redzone as teams do seem to blitz more when we get down there.  I think THs arm effects the deep ball in a non congested field, say when were at midfield in that he cant challenge the defenses and push the deep middle.  However, playing small ball suits him much better, he makes quick reads and has a pretty quick release.  As I said before this is something that should be fixed and has very little to do with THs limitations.  It is popular to here to blame it on TH though so I can see why you would have that opinion but if you really think about it, it dosent make sense.  I have said this before, if they fix that issue and continue to run the ball well we will be a big problem for teams to deal with.

What if I woke up tomorrow and was suddenly a 6'3 fitness model who drove a Ferrari? I mean, we can throw out any sorts of rando "what ifs"

The main issues with the red zone passing game are probably based on Heinicke's physical limitations. You combine a weak arm with a compressed/crowded field and the results aren't favorable. TH's physical limitations aren't going to suddenly change.

I just dont buy that TH is the ONLY reason were not finishing in the red zone.  He is a part of it but I think the play calling has been bad and our O-line hasnt played well at times down there.  I dont think you need a rifle arm to score in the red zone.  You dont want to throw lazers to your receivers at close range, it all comes down to play calling and execution like everything else in football.  If they execute better and get some good play calling.  There will be a lot of bewildered TH haters here.  Its definitely something they can fix.

Taylor ranks 32nd in the Red Zone.

Taylor’s believers want it both ways.  They want the critics to lay off and accept he is who he is, but are ready to litigate every criticism thrown his way.

At some point, you have to accept much of the criticism on Taylor as valid, if you expect to be taken seriously.  It’s okay to concede that his physical limitations limit what the offense can do, particularly in tight space like the Red Zone.  While at the same time digging that a guy with so much physical limitation has been finding his way on the winning side more often than not.

I said this a while ago, and it’s still true now.  A lot of Taylor’s biggest fans will say they know he’s limited, not a franchise QB, etc. but then argue against that in that whatever his weaknesses are, happen to be primarily the fault of the playcaller who knows him better than anyone.  The reason he’s limited and not a franchise QB are the legitimate weaknesses, that he can’t really do anything about.

But then what if they fix the redzone issues?

I think you're probably right, I just feel like with Wentz there's at least a chance we could be more than just kind of competent.

I certainly could be wrong, I've been wrong plenty of times, Wentz could come back and be historically bad but I can't shake the feeling we didn't quite give him enough opportunity to prove that.

Wentz got sacked 9 times against the Eagles,  Ill take TH in this match-up.  A huge reason were winning with TH is because he isn't taking many sacks.  Wentz took  23 sacks in 6 games.  This offense was inept with Wentz in there.  At least were moving the ball up and down the field.  If they start finishing these drive with TDs were going to be a big problem for teams especially with they way we have been running it.

Honestly….I would plan on heineke being the franchise guy and would build around him. The kid is tough and lays it on the line. Mistakes?…….those lessen after 20 starts or so. Keep Wentz on the sidelines.

prepare to be flamed with real hard hitting facts!  record be dammed he has a noodle arm and cant throw the ball 30 yards.

Great win and thought we were solid in all three phases. If there was one thing that peeved me though was when we were up 20-14 in the 3rd quarter and had first and goal on the Philly 5. After a run on 1st down, we called two consecutive passes. The 2nd down pass was incomplete and then Heinicke was sacked on 3rd down. Although we did get a FG to go up 9, I thought we let Philly off the hook by passing and it felt like by them holding us to a FG, it flipped momentum in their favor.

I would've liked to see us run it right at them on 2nd and 3rd down and slam it in for a TD. They were frustrated and we were smashing them in the face- with Robinson and Gibson getting tough yards. I think a TD right there would've broken any fight they had left. But that proved to be irrelevant in the outcome and we got the big win.

Also, last nights win changes the way I look at the rest of our schedule. I'm not going to say we'll win out, but by beating an undefeated Philly team on their home field has me looking at the rest of our games as all winnable games. I didn't feel that way before last night. Again, not saying we'll run the table, but there is now no game left on our remaining schedule that I don't think is a winnable game for us.

I said the same thing in another thread.  We had the perfect opportunity to break them and we let them off the hook.

Imagine if this offense had even an average passing attack.

Well Terry kinda tore it up last night idk if you were watching.

They were not one dimensional. They converted a ton of third a shorts through the pass game as well. Let’s stop acting like heineke threw for 95 yards and was just handing the ball off, there were a lot of throws he made to help them win that game.

Heineke has two distinct flaws in my opinion, and one makes the other worse. He’s late. The interception was a throw that was open but only for a split second. And not only was he late, but he doesn’t have the arm strength to make that throw late. Some QBs do, heck even Wentz is probably one of those guys. But when you’re late, AND have lower tier arm strength, that’s when you run into some issues. And we see that on display every game, at least a few times.

Either way though, the mental gymnastics some of you guys do to convince yourselves Heineke is an absolutely atrocious QB that we are lucky to win in spite of is getting to be pretty out there as a take. He has a winning record as a starter of this team, with over a full year sample size. Some backups come in for teams that lose their starters and don’t win another game. So it’s one of two things. We either have the most stacked roster in the league and can have a winning record with the worst QB in football. OR, and far more likely, we have a decent to above average roster that plays hard for him and he makes plays that help the team win more than they lose.

I have read on here a ton that the book on Heineke was written and that d coordinators could stack the box and dare him to throw and he was toast. At the very least, that’s not the case. So hopefully those same individuals can admit they are wrong and enjoy what heineke brings to the table.

Also, before this is quoted as being some Heineke love fest, let me please say that I hope the team explores every option at the QB position going forward and that I welcome an upgrade whether it’s via draft or trade or FA. It’s why I was cool with the Wentz trade, thought it was worth the gamble. I think Heineke is the best backup you could ever ask for, a limited starter overall due to physical limitations. But if I read one more thing about him making the team entirely one dimensional because he can’t throw the ball at all, im going to call it out. He made plenty of throws tonight, in fact, I’d say some of the best he’s ever thrown. Enjoy it and stop making everyone that can recognize what Heineke brings feel like they are a “hiver.”

By the way, I quoted your post but a lot of this is directed toward many posts I’ve seen on the subject.

Thank you for speaking on this. I really think there should be a Heinekie hater thread they can all go in and bash the guy.  If he just showed that we can literally beat the best team in the league with him as our QB, then what exactly is the limitation on him?  People act like Wentz didn't turn the ball over at all and we got a whole 8 points against the Fecals last game.  Also, we should have put this game away even earlier then we did, they play calling in the redzone just baffles me sometimes.  1st and 10 inside the 5 yard line.... run it 4 times....
