NFL free agency 2021: Cardinals' Haason Reddick looking for 'fit and feel' over money as teams ready to call

Haason Reddick sounds like an NFL elder statesman as he readies to enter the 2021 free agency fray. The former 13th-overall pick will hit the open market for the first time in his professional career after having spent the last four seasons with the Arizona Cardinals, and usually that's when a player tries to maximize his earnings with what's roundly viewed as the first major payday. And when you're Reddick, a player who's established himself as one of the better young players at your position, the coming payday could be sizable -- but that's not his top priority.

In a recent chat with SiriusXM NFL Radio, the 26-year-old made clear what sits atop his list of priorities this offseason.

"I want my number to be called," Reddick said. "I want to be one of the guys that's called on to make plays. I want the fit and the feeling to be right. I want a mutual understanding between me and the coaching staff about what's expected, what's to be done, and the effort I'm going to give."

This sounds like the type of man Rivera would like.

He played well for sure but is it sustainable? Remember Chris Horton? The league is filled with unheralded guys who flash for a year but then get figured out. I think Kam Curl is legit but I'm not sure about Reeves.

Did everyone forget about Deshazor Everett? Did he leave Via Free agency?  I thought he was playing better then Reeves.

He passed the eyeball test.  He was phenomenal in the playoff game.  It’s funny seeing fans talking themselves out of starting Heinicke going forward.  They’d rather do the same ole same ole and trade away a kings ransom just to bring in Stafford who hasn’t won a single playoff game in 12 years just because they’re programmed to always want the shiny new toy SMH

I feel you man,  Just watching this guys make the reads he was making impressed me a lot.  I dont know why anyone would be hesitant slating him as the #1 QB going into next season.  I believe that if he started all the games this year were sitting at 10-6 maybe 11-5.  Our offense was inept for most of the season.  Tony Dungy was impressed by him and that is a guy that coached Peyton Manning and watched him from the sideline for a long time.  To make it clear, I was impressed by the playes he made and the diving play was amazing but his reads were what really set him apart from any QB we have played this year.  He also seemed to have some good pocket presence and he burned Tampa on the blitz several times.  This was the best QB performance for WFT all year.  He did all of this with no running game as well.  Stafford would come in here and struggle to pick up the offense then get hurt.  Just sayin, I dont mind bringing in competition but this guys should be #1.

Without sounding like the fun police, doesn’t Chase need to be careful with some of these locker room videos. Aren’t there very strict league rules on face covering and the like, must be honest don’t know the exact league stance but there have been violations punished this season.

Its like when entering a restaurant you need a mask.  But when you sit down your safe to remove your mask.  When you win the division you can then remove your mask in the locker room. :)

Great coaches tend to focus on competition and accountability. The LSU coach, Pete Carroll,  Saban, Urban Meyer and Bellichick all have a similar formula.

In college it’s tell the truth Monday meaning you evaluate your previous performance with brutal honesty.

Competition Tuesday where you practice harder than the game and best players get to play based on performance.

No turnover Wednesday where they practice ball security and install the game plan.

No repeat Thursday where the expectation is flawless execution.

Focus Friday where there is a ton of film study of the opponent.

It's all about a culture of competition, performance, accountability and what have you done lately.

I think Ron has a similar mentality. He’s not going to shy away from bringing in competition at every position and being brutally honest about performance. There are going to be options at every position. There is a rumor we are going after JPP even though we have Kerrigan, Sweat and likely drafting Chase Young. No one is above hard competition.

This is exactly what we need.  Im so tired of seeing player that stink it up every week. IE (Josh Norman, MN).  We have needed accountability for a long time.

I find myself wanting everything new, however, if it’s best for Haskins and the team then hopefully the choice is for him to stick.

Although, I am not fond of Run, Run, Pass. Repeat. Play calling....

I feel you man but I thought about this alot this season.  While im not a fan of watching that crap over and over again.  I do think that what Callahan was trying to do was to force the team to understand that winning 1 on 1s at the LOS was the most important thing they could do.  I also think that it was forced on KOC.  I think he will run more of a balanced attack because of his understanding of this now.  Regardless, the key to Haskins development in this season was the ability we had in the running game and it was the major cog in the wheel that allowed him to grasp what was happening.  I still want to see a lot of running next year with Peterson/Guice and Love.

Interesting to see my cut Doctson vision is gaining traction. Did anyone else before me say they think he is a cut candidate?

To me, Bruce not taking the 5th option spoke volumes.  Now we keep hearing he cannot get separation. Where was this news the past 3 seasons?

He has one foot out the door and only needs a little push from one of McLaurin Sims or Harmon to make it happen.

Between the emergence on Scary Terry, Simms, Davis and Kidsey as well as the youth of Harmon, Quinn.  I think its time for Doctson to move on.  Hopefully we can trade him before the start of the season.  I believe all of the names listed above can put together the types of season Doctson has 35-44 catches 500-540 yards as a #1.  I have been wanting this more and more as camp has progressed.  Im right there with you, just would like us to get something for him.

Ryan Anderson looked more the part of an nfl ilb than an edge in college.

I agree about Ryan maybe being better suited for ILB but until Sweat actually plays a down I think Anderson is starting OLB taking over for Preston.  Sweat should overtake him fast but I do think that Ryan is a competitor and will make his presence felt.

  9. To Anyone here saying that NFL games cant be Fixed, rigged, swayed I leave you this

Image result for nba ref fixing

If one person can do it for money.....

Just FYI I think we stunk it up on Monday pretty much all by ourselfs.

  10. I also think there are things we could do to get him involved earlier like screens, end arounds or slants to him that could wake him up a bit.  Deliberatly target him early on short passes to try to get some YAC against favorable matchups.  A simple 10 yard back shoulder on the sideline is a very safe play against any type of defender.

  11. There is no reason to freak out about Doctson for a ton of reasons

1.) Were 2-1 and In first place

2.) The offence has been moving the ball very well at times without using him.

    3.)  Hes cheap

4.) He will be cheap again if he remains at this production level.

5.) There is the chance that he gets going and from the looks of it, he could be a VERY tough match up if so.

5.) He is worth nothing on the trading block so why not keep giving him chances as log as we are winning games?

Yes I want more but honestly I dont care as long as were WINNING...... If we start losing and its obvious we need a receiver to step up then sure... lets freak out.

Yup, fool me once - shame on you.

Fool me twice - shame on me.

A fool man cant get fooled again

Honestly Im thinking there is an open competition with Doctson, Harris (assuming he can stay healthy) and Robert Davis for the #1 spot next year.

Harris- I really thought he had a shot at overtaking Doctson for the spot in preseason but the guy just needs a run of good health.  Honestly I would feel better with either of them over Doctson and I have been on his side for a while.....He needs to start producing...NOW
