  1. Hate to hear it. It should be about time for Kevin Randleman to come back though, I'm guessing he'll be fighting in the UFC, because I believe he had a contract with Pride before they were bought out.

Randleman is an interesting case. He has all the raw talent and power in the world, but he could just never seem to put it together consistently. if you look back at his career, you'd be hard pressed to find another fighter who's fought as many of the top guys in mma as Randleman.

  2. WTF? Is that to give him time to pass his 2nd drug test or what?

apparently sherk just hired a lawyer 2 weeks ago, and their team is still getting an independent analysis of the samples that came back with roids. No matter what the decision will be made on those samples, sherk can't just take a test now and claim he wasn't on the juice

franca's suspension was upheld as expected so he's done for the next year

  3. Pride had that same issue with Shogun and Wandy, but they still both fought in the same org. I'm getting really sick of fighters that won't fight "friends". This is a sport, not a street fight. Tito is the worst offender.

Filho wanted to fight for a title which is why he's in WEC. I can understand why they may not want to fight their friends, yes it is a sport, but it can lead to someone getting hurt seriously whether its intentional or not. i might not agree with it, but i won't criticize fighter for not wanting to fight someone he is close to.

  4. Yep, already know about the event, and will be watching. I'm very impressed with the caliber of fighters in the WEC....When is Filho going to come to the UFC?

i would expect sometime after Anderson Silva loses the MW title. Filho has stated in different interviews that him and Silva are great friends and train together, and that they won't fight each other.

  5. I agree, a good BJJ match is a physical chess match but you could make the same argument for two dominate Muay Thai fighters. It all comes down to preference I guess. I think my dream match would be a good combination of the two, but I think it's fair to say that most MMA fans fall in once of those two categories, fans of great striking matches or fans of great grappling matches.

i agree it essentially comes down to preference. i have had the chance to actually train (very little  ) submission wrestling, so i'm kind of partial to submissions myself

on that note UFC needs to sign Aoki to their lw division, he could be one of the only fighters the crowd won't boo when it goes to the ground:laugh:

  6. I agree. While it's true that I am disappointed that we won't be seeing Wandy vs. Chuck, this PPV will still be very exciting.

There's no way that the Chuck or Shogun matches will be boring, even if both end in a 1st round KO, there will be plenty of fireworks as all of these guys are dominant strikers.

I mean, I'd much rather watch a PPV full of big-time strikers than grapplers rolling around the octagon for the duration of matches. I know a lot of people like watching grapplers but personally, I like seeing big kicks and punches and matches ending in (T)KOs.

i prefer grappling to striking when the two competitors are at a high level. seeing two world class bjj is pretty interesting, like a physical human chess match.

  7. I'm not ranking him #1. I'm saying that with the skill he has, he should be #1, not that he deserves to be ranked there. I just think he is the most talented P4P fighter in MMA, save for possibly Fedor.....And if he had Fedor's work ethic, I think he'd be the best P4P fighter.

i agree, BJ's biggest problem is that he relies on his talent too much and doesn't come in the best condition in some of his fights. if he ever gets that under control he'd be damn near unstoppable.

on another note anyone know where Shinya Aoki is goin to sign?

  8. Yeah, I saw that a while back. Honestly, that was a VERY close match. Also, Karo had a decent number of years on Soku. I'm of course not trying to take anything away from Karo. He and Bj are the two most exciting fighters in the UFC, IMO. Both have records that are less than stellar, but for some reason I can't help but feel they both deserve to be top 3 in their respective weight classes (well, BJ should be #1 in LW and WW).

BJ may be the most talented LW in the world right now, but i can't rank him #1 because rankings imo, rankings should be based on accomplishments and not talent. At LW BJ hasn't done much in a very long time except beat a past his prime Jens Pulver

  9. Definitely agree...And he's a judo gold medalist, I believe. Watch out Karo! (I know, different weight class)

theres a youtube clip of Karo and Sokodjou competing against each other in a Judo match from a few years back. Karo beat him despite the weight disadvantage, goes to show how great Karo's judo is.

The stable of fighters now in official free agency after the Zuffa buyout of Pride continues to grow on almost a daily basis and one of the most sought after light heavyweight prizes on the market, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, will not be signing with Elite XC as many had thought going into the Shamrock/Baroni Elite XC produced pay-per-view that took place last month.

According to Elite XC president, Gary Shaw, the deal was basically done as of that event but now Sokoudjou will not be coming to Elite XC. Shaw said,"We thought we had Sokoudjou signed and he pulled a 180 on us. So, at this time, he is off the table with EliteXC."

Apparently, Elite XC brought Sokoudjou in as a special guest for that event and was treated as such before, during and after the show but then according to Shaw, the fighter pulled out of the deal when another offer came across the table.

i hope he ends up in the UFC, only 23 years old and already holds KO wins over Lil Nog and Arona. Unlimited potential in this kid.

  11. So Chuck Liddell vs. Keith Jardine is not deserving of main event status. This is very true and I couldn’t be more disappointed that Chuck is not fighting Wanderlei Silva, which is every MMA fans dream match-up. None the less, Jardine is going to step into the middle of the octagon and bang with Liddell. There is going to be a first round knockout and probably a high-light reel of big punches and serious action. While Chuck should be facing stiffer competition, I do believe the fight will be entertaining.

What I like about the UFC is that since the fight is being looked upon as a low quality main attraction, they are padding the card to make up for it. Rumored fights on the same card are as follows:

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua is making his UFC debut against Forrest Griffin—the fight will be exciting. I love Shogun and think he is the best light heavyweight in the world right now. Griffin always comes to fight and enjoys putting on a good show for the fans. This fight will have fireworks from the outset and think it is a good tune-up fight against a solid competitor for Shogun.

Diego Sanchez vs. Jon Fitch—after an extremely disappointing and lack luster fight, Sanchez needs to redeem himself. I am a big advocate of Sanchez but was astounded by his tentative and boring fight against Josh Koscheck. He has his work cut out for him because Fitch is another up and coming fighter similar to Sanchez himself. He is looking to make a name for himself and would propel himself into title contention by beating Sanchez. Both of these fighters have something to prove and Sanchez has a lot on the line which should make for an exciting fight.

Light heavyweight Jason Lambert, lightweight Tyson Griffin, and former middleweight champion Evan Tanner are also rumored to be on the card. All three fighters are extremely fun to watch and often have fight of the night caliber matches. Griffin is young and flashy but I love his style and the way he fights. Despite not having the huge main-event attraction that fans have become accustomed to, the UFC has put together a well rounded card from top to bottom and it should be well-worth the money.

i don't see this card being worth the money. Liddell and Shogun's matches will be entirely one sided. Neither Forrest or Jardine are anywhere near the levels of the guys they are facing.

Sanchez vs. Fitch will be good if Sanchez remembers to actually fight.

Tyson Griffin is always good for an exciting fight.

this card is the type i'll find on a stream, but won't pay for.

Sean Sherk, the reigning UFC World Lightweight Champion, who last competed on July 7, 2007 in Sacramento, has tested positive for Nandrolone Metabolite. He has been fined $2,500. His suspension period runs from the conclusion of his bout on July 7, 2007 through the remainder of his licensing year which is June 26, 2008. Furthermore, he has been assessed an additional 10 days in order to fulfill the terms of his suspension (365 total days). The additional days will be added at the beginning of his next licensing year when he reapplies.

Normal levels of Nandrolone range from 2 ng/mL (average person) to 6 ng/mL (athlete engaged in rigorous activity). Mr. Sherk's reported level certified by the Director of Science and Technology from the laboratory that conducted the tests was 12 ng/mL. Both the "A" sample and "B" sample were tested and confirmed as positive.

Sean "The Chemically Enhanced Muscle Shark" Sherk

all jokes aside, with all the positive and mainstream coverage MMA has been receiving, the last thing we need is this sport being linked to steroid abuse.

    edit: http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=4358&zoneid=13

This statement was provided to MMAWeekly on behalf of Hermes Franca to address the positive drug test as found by the California State Athletic Commission after his bout with Sean Sherk at UFC 73:

In the next few days, the results from the California Commission will be released. The tests will show that I had a "banned substance" in my system.

I would like to apologize to my fans, the UFC, my students and family. I offer only an explanation and not an excuse. I made a decision during a difficult time in my training for the fight that I regret.

    Franca tested positive too.

Pending appeals both will be suspended for a 1 year under the current athletic commission (although only Sherk is appealing)

  13. I aint watching on Spike. Last time the commercials killed me. Going to stream or straight DL it before it comes on Spike. Also when will Bisping going to get to fight better comp?

this is why alot of people who have followed the sport for a long time, hate The Ultimate Fighter. the winners of those shows are often spoonfed opponents and built up to be better than they actually are. The only fighter who wasn't spoonfed was Diego, other than that, all their winners have had cans for their couple of fights in the UFC.

Bisping is a good fighter who needs to be tested, the fact that he was almost submitted by Elvis Sinosic tells me alot more about Bisping than any of his wins thus far.

that being said Bisping could very well lose against Hamill. Bisping by all accounts is the better fighter, but Hamill is ridiculously strong and has great wrestling. i could see Hamill winning a very very boring 3 round decision.

  14. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=4346&zoneid=13

With all of the controversy and speculation surrounding the potential main event fight between former champ, Chuck Liddell and former Pride champion, Wanderlei Silva, the UFC finally put the fight to sleep after Silva requested to fight in November instead of the scheduled September 22nd date the organization had set for the main event of UFC 76. Now with Liddell expecting to fight in September the UFC found a new opponent and his name is Keith Jardine

Jardine confirmed the fight to MMAWeekly today saying he expects the deal to be done and the fight to be signed “any day.”

  16. the last time Jardine was in the cage, this happened:

    MMAKO13HoustonAlexandervs.KeithJardine.gif

now he gets to headline a PPV. makes perfect sense.

i usually don't get upset about ufc matchmaking, but this match if it happens will really bother me.

there is no possible justification for this bout to happen

  17. http://ufcjunkie.com/2007/07/13/ufcjunkiecom-exclusive-chuck-liddell-vs-keith-jardine-to-headline-ufc-76/

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell (20-4 MMA, 14-3 UFC) and Keith Jardine (12-3-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) are expected to headline Anaheim’s UFC 76 event in September. A source close to one of the fighters told UFCjunkie.com (www.ufcjunkie.com) of a tentative agreement that was reached earlier today.

i swear if this happens, i will find away to slap the hell out of Dana White and UFC matchmaker Joe Silva

  18. Just read that the game is probably a year and a half away. Looks like I'll be sticking to Fifa for a while longer.

I have a problem with unification bouts. Pride fights in a ring (and use to have different rules). Hendo shouldn't lose that belt to Rampage in a cage. It would be cool if the loser's belt was vacate, and there was a tournament for it.

i see your point, but Pride i've accepted the fact that Pride is dead. UFC will use that acquisition to get most of their fighters and bring them to UFC or the WEC, but i don't think we'll see the proposed "superbowl" of MMA ppv, or another pride ppv for that matter.

i can call it a unification bout because u have the two champions of each org. facing each other. both are familiar with the cage so it shouldn't be a problem.

the worst thing the UFC could do is keep multiple titles for any 1 weight division. that is a major reason boxing is the way it is now. there 20 champions for each weight-class. the UFC has it right, keeping one title or champion, per weight class
