  1. that was quite weird. As Rogan said, since winning UF1 i havent seen koshchek get dominated in the grapple like that ever. Really good fight by GSP. Love to see GSP get that title back from Hughes.

i think that says alot more about gsp's wrestling ability. Kos is one of the best wrestlers, but GSP has proven that he has an ability to take wrestlers/grapplers down (sherk, hughes, Penn). GSP is freakishly strong for 170, and has great leverage.

Kos just got beat by a much better fighter, he'll still be in competition for title shots in the future.

  2. my picks for UFC 74:

Roger Huerta vs. Alberto Crane: Huerta is good, but its past time for the UFC to give him some credible competiton, they can't protect him forever. He should win this easy. More hype will follow, but give him somebody the people actually know next fight (i'm still mad this fight is being shown on the main card while Clay Guida/Marcus Aurelio is on the prelims and will be a much better fight. hopefully a couple of fights end quick and they still show this fight)

    Huerta by TKO rd2.

Kendall Grove vs. Patrick Cote: Grove really impressed me in his victory over Alan Belcher. I don't think Grove will have many problems with Cote, Grove continues to improve and will finish this fight.

    Grove TKO rd2.

Joe Stevenson vs. Kurt Pellegrino: This will be a good fight, Pellegrino is extremely skilled and will present problems for Joe on the ground. I can easily see this fight goin either way, but i think Joe will be too strong for him in the long run.

    Stevenson by UD

George St. Pierre vs. Josh Koscheck: Hardest fight to pick for me actually. If GSP is mentally in this fight, it will be extremely difficult for Koscheck to win, but GSP has to actually prove he is mentally prepared for this fight. I think Koscheck will score a couple of takedowns on GSP, but i don't see Koscheck being able to keep GSP on his back to dish out any punishment. Koscheck could very well win a decision based on pecking his jab and scoring a takedown or two a round, but i see GSP catching Kos with something heavy in the 3rd round.

    GSP TKO rd3.

Randy Couture vs. Gabriel Gonzaga: Randy Couture has to rely on his strategy and smarts to win this fight. Gonzaga is bigger, stronger, with heavy hands, and extremely dangerous on the ground. Bottom line is that I see more opportunities for Gonzaga to win this fight than Couture. I only see Randy winning by dragging Gonzaga into the deep waters of the later rounds and hoping Gonzaga gasses, as nobody knows if he can go 5rds. Gonzaga's extremely dangerous on the ground so even if randy takes him down, i don't think he will mind.

    Gonzaga by Submission rd3.

  3. i actually think Koscheck would beat Hughes at this point. Koscheck is a better pure wrestler than Hughes, and Hughes is virtually clueless on his feet. I can easily see Koscheck getting a decision against Hughes

Chuck was and still is a bigger draw than Fedor, the man is the face of MMA. He's all over tv and radio, even graced the ESPN magazine cover. And as much as hardcore fans want to look cool by not talking about the most popular fighter ever and act like he's not that good, he's still one of the best in the world.

I don't know about other fans, but I get very excited when Anderson Silva has a match coming up.

i think overseas, Fedor would be a bigger draw than Chuck, obviously Chuck is bigger in the states, but in fairness to Fedor he hasn't fought more than twice (if that) in the states.

as far as Anderson Silva goes, he is by far my favorite fighter in MMA right now. one of, if not the most dangerous and creative strikers in MMA, and uses his black belt in bjj more as defense to get the fight back to his feet. Not to mention that outside the ring, he is one of the classiest fighters in the sport today. The only opponent i can recall Silva not showing respect for after a fight was Leben, which was because Silva felt Leben was disrespectful in his comments leading up to that fight.

i honestly think that if Silva could speak english well, he would be the UFC's posterboy.

  4. Koscheck will always be a threat to anyone in that division simply because his wrestling is superior to anyone at that weight. he has improved tremendously, considering that he has only been training mma for a few years now. as his overall game gets better, he'll become more dangerous.

that being said he is one of the most boring fighters i've seen. i understand that he comes to fight to win, and that his strategy is predicated on that, and that it is ultimately the responsibility of his opponent to push the action when its clear he's losing (yes i'm looking at you Diego). Still tho Koscheck has to become more exciting because with his style, as soon as he loses one fight, he will literally have to fight and beat every single fighter in the division before he gets a title shot.

  5. I disagree. Let's be honest. Silva isn't a good headliner because he barely speaks English, and isn't flamboyant. They needed to sell the fight if it is going to be the main event. So, the only one of them that is going to pull fans is Franklin, so why not put it in his backyard to ensure the place is packed? And yes, Silva is going to knock his nose straight (after having knocked it crooked). :) Must admit though, I am a Franklin fan. Nothing but class. The same can be said for Silva though.

Silva is making an effort to learn english, he's a long way away, but he is trying. You could make a strong argument that Silva is the most exciting fighter in the UFC at the moment and i just don't agree with how the UFC has gone about this. yes they need to sell the fight, but when was the last time the challenger had a homefield advantage in a championship fight (not that Silva will care, as he destroyed Lee Murray in front of a mega crowd in Britain).

I just think that the UFC is setting Silva up to be disrespected after the fight, in which he will be heavily booed no matter how dominant he is in the fight. i understand that the UFC would prefer Franklin to be the posterboy for the MW division but to set Silva up for disrespect is just a shady move in my opinion.

  6. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=4533&zoneid=2

The UFC today announced the signing of former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva.

In an article with UFC.com’s Thomas Gherbasi, the UFC announced that Silva will return to fight for the UFC for the first time in seven years. He last fought in the Octagon in April of 2000, losing a decision to Tito Ortiz at UFC 25.

Silva’s return is slated for sometime in December. Although no date or opponent was announced, it is likely that “The Axe Murder” will make his return on the December 29 year-end extravaganza.

Both Silva and former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Chuck Liddell have stated several times that they would like to face each other and UFC President Dana White has tried for years to put that fight together, so it would not be a stretch to believe that Silva vs. Liddell is the likely match-up for Silva’s return.

    its finally official :applause:

  7. MMA sucks. WHo wants to see guys laying on top of each other for 80% of every round. I'd rather watch boxing or streetfighting. At least these guys have to attack.

you obviously don't watch much if you think they are on the ground 80% of every round

at least watch the product before you make dumbass statements.

  8. "McFedries remains in the hospital and has had a [sizable] piece of his leg removed" I wanna see a pic of that. Damn and he was coming up too. Yeah dirty mats will mess you up. Miletich cant afford people to clean mats or is he trying to keep it old school?

i'm still hopin for an eventual match-up between McFredries and Terry Martin

that match would be all bombs, ending with someone getting brutally KO'd

  9. I don't really like Sanchez anyway. Especially after acting like an ass at the Koscheck weigh-in then losing the match by decision.

Maybe smoking weed is a bad idea if you're into combat sports? :whoknows:

Diaz managed to apply the gogoplata on Gomi while on the green

  10. apparently Diego Sanchez has left Greg Jackson's camp: http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=4480&zoneid=13

Diego Sanchez has officially left Team Jackson and moved to California to be closer to his son according to former trainer Greg Jackson, who commented during an appearance on MMAWeekly Radio on Wednesday night.

“Diego has moved to California to reconnect with his son out there,” said Jackson. “He’s always a part of the team, but he’s going to train out there for a while. We love him to death, he still loves us; it’s just kind of a thing where he wants to get out there and get to know his boy and live a good life. He’s such a great kid and we all love him to death, the whole team, and we wish him the best of luck while he’s out there and can’t wait for him to get back.”

damn, Greg Jackson's team been on some hard times lately.

"had a spark when they started, but now they just garbage"

Report: Drew McFedries, Tim Sylvia Infected with Staph Infections

Posted by UFC Junkie on August 7, 2007 at 2:12 pm ET

Spencer Fisher apparently isn’t the only Miletich Fighting Systems fighter struck by a staph infection.

Teammates Drew McFedries and Tim Sylvia have also been infected, and McFedries still remains hospitalized, according to The Fight Network’s Brian Knapp.

    According to the report:

According to Fisher, at least two other MFS fighters — heavy-handed middleweight Drew McFedries and former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia — have also been infected. McFedries remains in the hospital and has had a [sizable] piece of his leg removed, according to Fisher. His rumored October bout with Marvin Eastman at UFC 77 also appears in jeopardy.

All three fighters train at MFS in Bettendorf, Iowa.

they need to better in making sure all the equipment and training centers are sanitized.

  12. http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=8535

Several sources have confirmed to Sherdog.com that the popular Kenny Florian (Pictures) will replace hard-hitting Spencer Fisher (Pictures) after a staph infection in the King's right knee forced the southpaw to bow out of his UFC Fight Night main event clash with Din Thomas (Pictures) on Sept. 19.

While the bout is not signed, it has been verbally agreed upon on by both sides, Sherdog.com has learned.

Fisher is one of several fighters in the Bettendorf, Iowa gym stricken with staph recently, said the lightweight's trainer, Pat Miletich (Pictures).

"They've been quarantined out of the gym," the trainer said. "It's not something you get from dirty mats or hospital equipment. It spreads from human to human contact."

kinda disappointed that Fisher had to pull out, but should still be a great fight regardless.

i still see Din winning this.

  13. It's true and he is an excellent wrestler but he could just never get his striking or ground game together.

List of great fighters he's faced:

    Fedor

    Cro-Cop

    Chuck

    Shogun

    Rampage

    Randy

    Bas Rutten

That's like a who's who of some of MMA's all-time greats and the only guy in that list that he's defeated is Cro-Cop (who defeated him as well).

Randleman even dropped Fedor on his head and it looked like he broke his neck only to have Fedor come back and submit him. I hope he's worked on his game since he's been out, because he's a very cool guy and I'd like to see him do some winning for a change.

every person you listed, a current or future hall of famer.

and that slam on Fedor was one of the sickest things i've seen. how he managed to get kimura'd like 30secs later is beyond me. in some interview a while back, i remember Fedor sayin that he was never in any danger from that slam because he knew how to position himself to land to minimize the overall damage of it, he said that it looked alot worse than it really was.
