  1. i'm taking Dawson in this one
  2. everybody in boxing knows the alphabet belts are meaningless, the only people who don't know are the casual fans who pay for tickets & PPV promoters attach a meaningless belt to give the bout more significance. only rankings i respect are Ring Magazine.
  3. pretty much the heavyweight division is just sad and there are no prospects rising that make me think it'll change in the near future. the fact that tony thompson even got a shot for the title just shows how bad the division really is.
  4. listening to Larry Merchant is just painful, they need to go with Kellerman full time now.
  5. he could be trying to transition. i heard rumors of him being on the undercard of De La Hoya's last fight. i don't think its smart on his part, but he's definitely entertaining the idea of a switch to boxing.
  6. training with Roach will definitely improve his boxing. Roach is responsible for turning Manny Pacquiao from a brawler, to a great boxer that he is now i don't see Arlovski having any success in a boxing ring, but working with Roach will definitely make his MMA stand-up game much much better
  7. Arlovski has been training with Freddie Roach, who will be in his corner at Affliction. apparently there is some serious talk of Arlovski having a professional boxing match later this year.
  8. Thompson is a good fighter, but Wlad will have to turn in a pretty piss poor performance for him to lose that fight.
  9. is David Haye gonna have tune-up fight first? i'm a big David Haye fan, but he's been dropped a couple of times by people who don't hit nearly as hard as Wlad. if he steps in untested at HW against Wlad, it could be a very short night for Haye
  10. i'm not too upset about the term. personally i have Floyd as the best boxer of his generation. he may not have been tested fully at WW, but he was certainly tested at other weight classes, this is why i think people call him "the king", its not so much based on body of work at WW, but rather is reflective of his career accomplishments. he'll probably go down as top 30 fighter of all time imo, and one of the three best defensive fighters.
  11. i would have no problem admitting it if i believed it were true. Mayweather didn't duck anyone at 130 or 135 either. Pacquiao came into 130 when it was more top heavy, but when Mayweather was at 130 & 135 he fought the top names of the time. hell you could make a strong argument that mayweather is the best 130lbs ever
  12. after stinking out the joint in his last fight, Wlad better be on some "seek and destroy" **** anything less than dominant KO victory for Wlad would be bad for him
  13. i don't agree with the reason you listed for why he retired. he may have not cleaned out WW but he damn sure cleaned out 130 & 135. He was manny pacquiao before Pacquiao. he "retired" because he really doesn't have anything left to prove in boxing. i'm not going to knock any fighter for getting out of the game while still in good health.
  14. all things considered Zab probably has more physical tools than Floyd. his hand are just as fast, but Zab definitely has more power. the difference is Floyd is so much smarter in the ring than Zab. To me thats Floyd's most underrated weapon, he is an absolute student of the game. Boxing at its core is a science and Floyd mastered it. He and his team are great at gameplanning and breaking down their opponent.
  15. i keep remembering how Jake O'Brien took Herring down whenever he wanted. then i remember that Herring couldn't defend a takedown from Cheick Kongo of all people. Heath better hope Brock comes in wanting to stand for some reason
  16. some damn good fights on 87. i'm hoping Lesnar wins just throw some excitement into the HW division. Huerta vs. I Finish Fights should be good for as long as it lasts.
  17. two of the judges scored that fight 29-28 for Nog, giving Herring the 1st round.
  18. i've been thinking for quite awhile now he could be an absolute beast and dominate 140lbs. he's only 5'8, i don't think making the weight would be that big an issue.
  19. since we talking about welterweight, who do you guys thing Andre Berto should fight next? i'm thinking he should get the winner of Josh Clottey/Zab Judah
  20. i had the fight a draw when i scored it. it was a competitive fight throughout, neither fighter was outclassed
  21. i think they do judge on damage. most people gave Herring the 1st round against Nog solely for the leg kick. before that leg kick, he hadn't done **** in that first round.
  22. alot of people feel Taylor is overrated (i'm not one of them). outside of Jermain Taylor, their level of comp is similar though. Cotto beat Mosely because Mosely played his game. Shane actually stood toe to toe with Cotto for alot of that fight. He did better and won rounds when he would box Cotto. there is no way on earth Mayweather would stand toe to toe with Cotto. i don't think Cotto has the handspeed to bother Mayweather's defense. Also Cotto still isn't moving his head enough defensively, i think Mayweather would be able to exploit that. Cotto's only hope in that fight would be to land a clean devastating shot to Mayweather's body to slow him down. i think Floyd would win a comfortable UD.
  23. i'm hoping this is what happens
  24. stop using research to defeat my arguments :finger:  Roy who started at 160 (i think), defeating any heavyweight is a big accomplishment. Ruiz was a legit heavyweight contender, its not like he fought the bottom of the barrell. i would give Abraham about a 35-40% chance in that fight. Pavlik's straight punches would bother him, but he is an excellent counter-puncher with KO power in both hands. Pavlik can be dropped and hurt as Taylor proved in the 2nd round of their first fight. Abraham hasn't proved much, but his list of competition is very similar to Pavlik's.
