Stafford is a bum. No playoff victories, played with the best WR of our generation for half his career, and even enjoyed a top 10 defense for a small window during that time...yet still couldn't get it done. What exactly can we offer him to be successful that Detroit hasn't already, aside from not having an Aaron Rodgers in the division?

God, I only wish. Bruce Allen was just a symptom of what was wrong with this team.

I think we should stick with Allen and Heinicke. They performed quite admirably with the limited offseason and sessions with the 1st team. Let them compete for the starting position during a normal offseason schedule, and by week 1 we'll have a solid #1 and #2. Unfortunately, a part of me is concerned that the "business side" of the organization will insist on bringing in a big name QB to help spur public awareness and interest in the team but I hope Ron and company are able to stave off those concerns and put restraint ahead of impudence in Free Agency.

This front office overhaul has all the signs of an aggressive offseason in the works, suggesting we'll be pretty big players in free agency and maybe even on draft day. I just hope this new squad realizes our quarterback situation is in flux, and that they don't go for broke this season before that part is settled first; otherwise, they'd be spending big money on weapons and other supporting pieces that will go underutilized.

I'm pretty comfortable with the head coach hiring the general manager. Naturally, any head coach will want a GM who's capable of getting the players he wants but in order for that to happen the GM has to at least have a firm grasp of the many nuances of player personnel and coaching from which to form a strong basis of communication and collaboration with the head coach. Another suit like Bruce Allen would never understand a team's personnel needs on the same level as the coaches, nor would he want to, and such an important position in the hands of someone that inept would be a detriment to the team. Add to the fact that such a GM would be beholden to the whims of a mediocre owner who's not yet demonstrated any remarkable football prowess himself, as opposed to those of a head coach who knows more about the team's needs, and you're left asking yourself who's more qualified to hire a GM than Rivera?

The NFL will review the proposed contract from the Lions and if it contains language indicating he'd have greater authority, autonomy, and responsibility, then the league will deem it a promotion. They'd probably give him a new title, sort of like the whole "Assistant head coach - defense" loophole we popularized at the start of the Gibbs II era.

Personally, I would keep the 'good' QB, even if it means slightly overcompensating him, and improve all the pieces around him, then pray the QB is at least competent enough to sufficiently utilize a talented supporting cast. A good QB can stall a talented team, that's true, but a bad or even an average one can debilitate a team. Plenty of just good QBs have won a Super Bowl, and it's usually with a good defense and strong coaching, both of which I'm confident we already have.

I believe the main crux of these stories, if not the details. Snyder amassed nearly the entirety of his fortune through overleverage and debt prior to being team majority owner, so I have no doubt of financial malfeasance at play here. You'll need a team of at least 50 forensic accountants to comb the organization's books but I'm 100% certain they'd find enough GAAP irregularities and violations to propose criminal penalties.

Yeah, I must be for wanting a serviceable QB who won't cost us high draft picks, put a big dent on our cap, and doesn't have a coo coo spouse bringing distraction to the team, all to just post pretty numbers and take us nowhere year in and year out. He's had top defenses to help him, a generational and future hall of fame wide receiver to throw to, and an assortment of head coaches to work with him over 12 years, all of which yielded 3 playoff visits, all ending in immediate first round elimination. I suppose we're somehow going to give him something different, that missing piece he hasn't had yet, to succeed. It'll just cost the team a lot to find out. No thanks.

Personally not sold on Stafford. From 2011-2013, the Lions had the top 5-6 defense in league, Stafford threw for nearly 15,000 yards in that span, and they only won 21 games in those 3 years. Some would blame poor coaching, and to an extent I'd agree, but I've never been a big fan of the modern day NFL gunslinger. They put up huge numbers and, given a long enough career, become first ballot Hall of Famers, but their improvisational plays and highlight throws come with the caveat of costly turnovers, especially at times when the margin of error is so thin, like in the playoffs. Is Stafford an improvement over what we have? Yes. But he would be a costly one and I don't think the few positives he'd bring to this team would outweigh those negatives. I'd much prefer we explore a game-manager who can move the chains and avoid making costly mistakes. I really want the team to look at Jacoby Brissett. Young, smart, and a great teammate going by reports. I think Ron can really tutor this kid better than his treatment in Indy, and he has the prerequisite skillset/experience to win us a lot of games.

We don't have a single #1 receiver here. Our WR corps consists of 2's and 3's. Our star tight end can't stay healthy and our pass catching RB is hurt. Alex Smith had young and explosive probowlers for weapons in KC, we got JAGs or injury proned players. He went from the penthouse to the outhouse by choosing to come here.
