McCaffrey feels like a pick where we think we know something other teams don't.

I'm absolutely giddy about this pick and one I called/hoped for many moons ago :) Their family is just loaded with alpha studs who take their profession very seriously. I can't wait to how his career unfolds.

Theres no way Troy Franklin falls to rd 5 right???

I've been pretty good in my player assessments/projections thus far except this one. Franklin's fall is a mystery to me. AD's is not anything to do with his play but attitude and battling diabetes from what I can discern.

From Washington Commanders 2024 NFL Draft: Pre-draft meetings/visit tracker - Hogs Haven last updated Updated Apr 24, 2024, 3:38pm EDT

I want you all to look at the QB position from this article.  Call it what you will but JJ was the only QB we had dinner with and a private workout with too.

J.J. McCarthy, QB, Michigan (NFL Combine meeting) (Team Pro Day meeting [Dinner]) (Private workout) (Top 30 visit)

I'd be giddy personally if JJ's the pick. I think his ceiling is through the roof.

  4. Holy crap - Mims ran a 5.07 40! Freak does not do him justice.

Brandon Coleman made himself a boatload of money. He was mostly on the peripheral for a while until the last couple months.

I'm convinced if we had the #1 pick the same amount of people would be arguing Maye over Caleb.

Not this member. Caleb would be the pick for me all day and every day over Maye and I'm not trying to crap all over Maye because their is legitimately a lot to be excited about with him RE his physical traits, which IMO were never in doubt.

    8. McCarthy: I didn't like his tape.  Really at all.  I don't see what the hubbub with him is all about.  But if Peters and company think he is the guy, eh, I'll trust them.  The biggest challenge with him is, and somebody on Keim's podcast brought this up, he had like 20+ games where he had less than 17 completions.  Because Michigan just didn't throw the ball.  So it's tough to know what he can do because he never did it.

    Ouch. McCarthy's my #2 :)

The problem with that is that it just means he's healthy now. He could not stay on the field for years and years and years. What were his healthy seasons since 2018? 2022 and 2023? Nothing illustrates recency bias more brightly than that. And I really like Penix and view him as the value of the draft (especially if he goes in the mid to late 1st). The fact that he could go top 10-12 is kinda crazy to me considering his age and his issues with health 2018-2021 or thereabouts. It's ridiculous, and again, I like him, but you can't take an injury profile/age combo like that in the top half of round 1 w/o deserving to get fired. I expected him to go late first to day 2, top 10-12 is flat out crazy, and it has zilch to do w/his talent (which I believe in).

I can't disagree. But, I personally would take under serious consideration the fact that the young man did not give up. IIRC, he was very close to quitting football because of the injuries and yet persevered, transferred to Washington, and was successful. When jobs are on the line, I can certainly understand the reticence when it comes to Penix but by all accounts, he is going somewhere in the 1st despite the red flags.

No one doubts that. But Spielman was in the room when they hired Peters and the QB position came up 100%. Because we haven't solved that in forever, so they definitely asked him what his approach is there. Basically a "how are you going to fix this?".

And Spielman sat in and heard that answer. So he knows at least how GMAP approaches this position and what he values. So his best guess might be better than another person's best guess. This is why some people feel like his quote might have some weight.

I should have phrased it better. Rick's certainly one of the better GM's out there in terms of talent evaluation and it just shows how hard it is to pick a QB as opposed to other positions. It is an entirely different animal.
