  1. Did anyone watch Outside the Lines yesterday with Meltzer and Lance Storm? I was a huge Storm fan, and it was great to see him and to hear his insights on the wrestling world today and the Benoit situation. He talked about how easy it was to come up "negative" on a WWE drug test. That you can test positive for something, but as long as you are prescribed that drug, you would be classified as clean. That is a hell of a loophole. Now that we know how a lot of guys get grossly overprescribed, I am sure there are a lot of positive tests that have gotten swept under the rug. He also talked about just the overall culture of drug abuse in wrestling, not just steroids, but painkillers and such. That it is just accepted as a part of the wrestling culture these days. Maybe a decade or so ago it could be understood, but now with the amount of excellent trainers and physicians around these guys constantly, there is not much of a need to circumvent things and self-medicate yourself. Storm never was very charismatic, that is probably why he never became more of a star. But he was an excellent wrestler, and a straight shooter. It was a good interview and he told it like it is. And it did not seem like self-promotion like a lot of the interviews we have seen recently.
  2. I agree with you Ace. They do have an opportunity here, but given their history over the last few years, I have a feeling that we will be disappointed.
  3. Damn straight TK, those RVD/Jerry Lynn matches were classic. Almost all of the RVD/Sabu tag team matches were incredible as well. I will never forget a tag match from 1998 with Sabu and RVD against Hayabusa and Jinsei Shinzaki. What a match... Here are a few highlights from the match - =Also, here is part one from the full match. The other three segments should be linked on the right part of the page. I am a fan of this particular clip because it also includes Shane Douglas, Francine, and one of my personal favorites - Joel "whether the women are at home, or here in Dayton, they're watching me and (fill in the blank)" Gertner. Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hp8Gbu3aE0E
  4. I really doubt they are playing favorites. As Sebowski noted, Sanchez' fight was in California, and they do not release the results. Although it could have been found, it was not common knowledge. Alves' was in Nevada, where they release the results if someone fails a test. I imagine that when this happens, UFC posts a blurb on their site because it has already been released and it is common information. For example, in the story linked below about Alves, the first line is "according to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, American Top Team fighter Thiago Alves tested positive for the banned substance Spironolactone." Nevada routinely releases this information, California does not. http://www.mmaweekly.com/absolutenm/templates/dailynews.asp?articleid=3224&zoneid=1
  5. I have been watching it from time to time. I was skeptical at first as to what the quality would be, but from what I have seen, it has been pretty good.
  6. From espn.com, click below for full story http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/print?id=2805155&type=story Orton, other wrestlers, linked to probe of pharmacy Associated Press Eleven professional wrestlers, including the WWE's Randy Orton, have joined the list of athletes linked to a nationwide steroids investigation. SI.com reported Monday that Orton allegedly received eight prescriptions for six different drugs -- including stanozolol, nandrolone and testosterone -- between March 2004 and August 2004. According to the documents SI.com reviewed, two doctors whose names also appear in Gary Matthews Jr.'s file, wrote prescriptions for Orton. Orton, through the WWE, declined comment, SI.com said. In its review of documents, SI.com reported it found Adam Copeland, a.k.a. Edge, and Shane Helms, a.k.a. The Hurricane, received HGH from Applied Pharmacy in Mobile, Ala., one of the pharmacies raided in the investigation led by Albany, N.Y., District Attorney David Soares. The late Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio are mentioned later in the story. Unfortunately, I can't say that all of this is too surprising.
  7. Um, whoa. Ol Johnny is a little excited by the Heartbreak Kid.
  8. Here you go: Click link to read full story... http://the.honoluluadvertiser.com/article/2007/Mar/05/br/br8160359742.html Nevada OK's UFC chief Dana White vs. Tito Ortiz bout Associated Press LAS VEGAS — Nevada regulators today approved an unusual grudge match between Ultimate Fighting Championship president Dana White and the "bad boy" of Huntington Beach, Calif., Tito Ortiz. White is the 37-year-old president of the mixed-martial arts promotion company that has become a heavyweight in the pay-per-view business. Ortiz (15-5-0) is one of its toughest, most popular combatants. Ortiz made the three-round match — in which both fighters will box only, no grappling — a condition of his recent contract negotiations. White was once Ortiz' manager, but the two "had a real bad falling out" in 2003, White said.
  9. I am more of a UFC fan than PRIDE, but I don't want to see PRIDE go anywhere. I am worried because from what I have heard, they are in a lot of trouble. As much as I like UFC, they need competition, and the only legitimate source for that is PRIDE. They are also really the only other quality MMA that can be widely seen right now. I might watch IFL occasionally, but EliteXC sucks IMHO.
  10. I don't know, that was about the time I stopped watching WCW. He looks like Herb from WKRP in Cincinnati.
  11. Damn, that sucks. I really liked Mike in the old-school ECW days, he had some of the most ridiculous matches I have ever seen with Masato Tanaka. I will never forget one PPV when Tanaka powerbombed Awesome out of the ring through a table onto the concrete floor. He landed right on the back of his neck and I was sure he was seriously hurt. But after a little while, he got back up, and even took some more nasty bumps before eventually losing the match. Easily one of my favorite matches ever. I think he could have been a bigger player if he were ever given an intelligent angle. Unlike That 70's Guy, or whatever the hell he was in WCW for a little while. Anyways, Mike was good and a hell of a performer. He will be missed.
  12. This just in...ECW is awful. Being an old ECW fan, I was hoping that it would be something worth watching, but after a couple of months, I have realized that it is not the case. There is nothing to differentiate it from the other brands, other than the occasional "extreme rules" match, which usually sucks anyways. That is what made ECW special the first time around, they were different. The personalities were different, the matches were different. Now it is just a repackaged version of "Sunday Night Heat" with an ECW logo slapped on it.
  13. Anyone watch TNA last night? I thought it was a really good show. They can have bad shows now and then, but I think it has been consistently better than what WWE has produced recently.
  14. I think this was just a special and it will be on for an hour Thursdays at 9 for the time being. But I think it could change depending on ratings. We'll see, I think it was a really good show tonight.
  15. He's just not that good of a wrestler, and his mic skills are not very good at all. I have no idea why he was signed, except just to say "we took this star from TNA," when he was not really going to figure into long-term plans anyways. I got tired of Brown after the same moves and promos constantly. Serengetti blah, blah, blah...POUNNNNNNNNNNNNNCE Period blah, blah , blah. Its like he was trying to be a mix of The Rock and Lashley. And it was not working. He does not seem like he is really dedicated to wrestling, and there is nothing wrong with that, I think he is very successful as a physical trainer. He looks great walking to the ring, but I don't think he has the ability to be a major player. I was thinking that WWE was going to try to get away from the big guys with good physique that might look good but can't wrestle. But maybe that is not going to happen.
