  1. If Frankie Edgar can takedown BJ, Fitch will do so with ease. Even though BJ can carry the extra weight, that doesn't equate to muscle and Fitch is a strong dude. I'm beginning to get the feeling BJ is just fighting for a paycheck anymore.
  2. Best post in this thread in a very long time...it irritates me the way people want to hate on someone because they're not in the UFC or one of their favorite fighters. Take a step back, remove the Dana White issued glasses and look at the fighters career and his accomplishments. No figther in the UFC has been as feared or respected as Fedor, none! Look how revered he is by his peers, Big Foot, Werdum, Overeem, Fedor is a God in their eyes. How the **** is someone sitting on their couch going to say Fedor isn't legit when pro fighters think he's arguably the best ever? I hate Emmitt Smith, Troy Aikman and Michael Irvin but I will never say they sucked or that they didn't have legit skills based on the talent in the NFL today. It's an asinine arguement.
  3. Not going to argue with much of what you said but as much as you think those of us in the GSP corner are over estimating him, I think you're highly understimating several key facts. You're underestimating how dominant wrestling is in MMA. You're also underestimating what Silva did from his back. He's a BJJ wizard, gotcha, unfortunately until he pulled the sub he did little to work a sub before that. He was completely owned on the ground, damage doesn't matter if you've been completely controlled the entire fight. You keep using Sonnen's face compared to Silva's, so are you trying to say if Silva didn't pull out the triangle he would have won because Sonnen looked more beat up? Seriously? End the fight right before the sub and Sonnen wins the fight 50/45. There's no denying that. Wrestling nulifies Silva's strengths. No one is arguing his ability to strike, kick, move and avoid damage. Take him down, all of this goes away. So what's left? He's long, he has great BJJ. Okay, but that's not where he's comfortable. If he was so comfortable there, why in the hell would he continuously avoid the ground against guys like Maia? If his BJJ is so great, why not wade into Maia's world? People say the boring fights are as much about the opponent as it is about Silva, true. But if he's such a GREAT well rounded fighter why not put that on display instead of dancing around the ring like a freaking idiot? GSP IMO is a much more well rounded fighter, period! Not saying he's necessarily a BETTER fighter than Silva, just more well rounded MMA fighter. I think GSP is a bad matchup for Silva and has a better chance than anyone at 185 to beat him. GSP walks away with it, beats him easily? Absolutely not! Silva wins easily, absolutely not! Guarantee you Silva has not fought a more well prepared, well trained, well rounded or disciplined fighter than GSP. Finally, cardio! GSP hands down, walking away, 10 out of 10 fights. The way GSP grinds on people, I think cardio would be the determining factor in the end.
  4. Was he really hurt? How many fighters have gotten their asses handed to them and suddenly it's "well I was fighting hurt". Come on dude, show me where in that fight that his rib was keeping him from being this super duper spectacular ass kicking figthing machine that you seem to think he is. He's bad ass, obviously, but the dude has struggled with pure wrestlers, Lutter, Hendo had him on his back in the first round and Sonnen. That's the only pure wrestlers he's really fault. Besides, IMO, he's still not the best P4P fighter like the UFC keeps touting him to be. That crown still belongs to Fedor until someone beats his ass. How long was Fedor undefeated?
  5. Cracks me up how people think the only reason Sonnen beat Silva for 23 minutes was because of steroids. Do you really think it gave him that much of advantage?
  6. Look at the size of all the guys you mentioned compared to Diaz. All of them are much stronger guys than Nick. Nate is a very talented fighter who struggles against stronger guys. Nick will fare the same way against GSP, he'll be out wrestled and out muscled all day long. I just don't think he'd have to be as cautious against Nick as he was against the guys you mentioned. Nick is typically head and shoulders above his opponents in striking and BJJ but he definitely doesn't have that advantage over GSP. ---------- Post added January-24th-2011 at 08:28 AM ---------- Yep, sure do. Which triathalon requires you to carry a 170+ pound man on you while you're swimming, running or biking. And OBTW, you're getting punched in the face at the same time? Just saying.
  7. I wouldn't say that, I don't even think it would go to decision personally. GSP would take him down, mount him and GNP the **** out of him. Diaz always has a chance to get a sub but as much as he likes to talk about how hard he works, he'll never outwork GSP and he'll never gameplan the way GSP does. GSP will out wrestle, outclass and his cardio will have Diaz on fumes by the third round. As much as I like Nick, GSP simply outclasses him.
  8. Haven't thought about that, interesting thought. He could be a beast at 145.
  9. I agree 100%, he's accurate, throws decent combos and works from many different angles but none of that matters unless you're just going to go in there and score points for a decision. Against a bigger guy you've got to have some power in your hands. Also, his jab doesn't scare anybody, he uses that pawing jab to annoy people but for it to be truly effective like most true strikers, it has to have a little pepper on it. AND, he keeps his hands too low. Nick, his striking is much better, super accurate, has power in both hands, his angles are sick and his striking will definitely wear a mother ****er down. You still don't see Nick coming out there and just knocking mother ****ers out. Again, to hear both of them talk they'd **** Floyd Mayweather up in a boxing ring. Lol
  10. I agree with Pettis having to wait. I'm not a big fan of a guy coming in from another company and jumping to the front of the line. I think they need pay their dues by fighting a contender. Beat the guy who has already paid his dues, then you deserve your shot. The kick was easily the baddest kick EVER in MMA, that **** will go down in the history books. However, Henderson has been known to get his ass beat and pull out a victory. Him handling Henderson wasn't impressive to me. Land that kick on Baby J and you have my attention.
  11. Don't necessarily agree with the scores but I had the fight a draw as well. Rd1:10-8 Maynard Rd2: 10-9 Edgar Rd3: 10-9 Maynard Rd's 4&5: 10-9 Edgar For Maynard to win the fight he had to do something in the 5th, score a take down, control the octagon, something. He let Edgar have the fight, Edgar landed more punches in the 5th and took the fight to Maynard. It was a close round but Edgar landed more combos and stayed aggressive. I honestly never thought a Judge had the balls to score a 10-8 round, definitely not a 10-7, have never seen a 10-7 round in Vegas. I was sitting here calling a draw after the 5th but only the 3rd judge with the 47-47 IMO got it right. If Nate Diaz's hands were as good as he actually thinks they are he'd be a world class boxer. I hate Nate but like Nick, however, both of them have that pawing jab and really no power to speak of, especially against bigger guys. You always hear them say "I'm a better striker", I've yet to see one of their fights where they didn't claim that. They have excellent BJJ, use it! Quit trying to show off your striking and choke some mother ****ers out! Guida, how can you not love that dude? Hard working, balls to the wall, holding nothing back. Dude finally deserves a shot, don't know if he'll ever be champ but he's always in the fight and entertaining as hell to watch. Phil, pack it in partner, you're too old and slow. Joe Rogan seems to try and "will" him to win, I think he hates to see the punch drunk **** get beat up. Did I say old? I meant old in fighter years. I was actually suprised to see how relatively young he is. Vera, time for the chopping block brother. You've lost it somewhere along the way, I used to like you but you got treated like a ***** last night! Leben, wow! Seeing his chin rocked like that says a lot about Stann's hands. Many a man has tried to put Leben to sleep but you sir did it. I always questioned just how heavy his hands were but I don't think there's any doubt now. That was bad ass.
  12. I see your point, but if you ever go out to a Hooters or some other place when Brock is fighting its so annoying to see the ignorant WWE fans acting like WWE fans. Not trying to be a MMA snob because by no means am I personally a student of the fight game but I've followed it long enough to respect the hard work and technical aspects of the game. I guess it's not really Brocks fault he's such an egomaniac with a big mouth and like I stated previously, my dislike is probably linked more to Dana and the UFC's handling of Brock than Brock himself. I just don't think you need all the WWE antics to bring in fans to the MMA world. On the flip side, it makes little baby jesus smile to see Dana all disappointed when his cash cow totes an epic ass whoopin!
  13. +1...Too me he came into the game with the WWE attitude and was way overhyped by Dana and of course himself. He didn't get the belt because he was a great MMA fighter, he got the belt because he was the biggest and possibly the most athletic. I mean, he was allowed to fight for the championship with a 1-1 record in the UFC, he wasn't required to pay his dues and EARN his right to compete for a championship. I guess my hate is as much for Dana pandering to the WWE crowd as it is for Brocks WWE persona. To me it made a mockery out of the sport and of the guys who eat, sleep and live MMA. Brock only got a shot because of his fame, not because of his skills. Now, I think he'd be an awesome guy to hang out with, have a few beers and do some hunting. If he entered the sport, paid his dues and worked his way to the championship I'd have no problem with him, and would probably even be okay with his antics. I mean, I don't hate Sonnen and he was a much bigger ass hat than Brock. I just think Dana and the UFC need to do a better job of setting up fights than just throwing the next big thing in there for a title shot, like Jake Shields and the 170lb belt, dude looked horrible.
  14. That was a sick ass fight! "he smacked his lip off!"
  15. Cain never deviated from his game plan. He didn't over extend, lose his composure or leave himself open for Brock to get a lucky shot. Cain looked really good last night, best I've seen a HW look in a long time.
  16. Really? His rodeo stunt? His pointing and going after Mir after he already kicked his ass? His stupid ass comment about drinking a corona and eating a buritto in honor of Cains heritage? All of the WWE antics, can't stand them. Lets not forget what got him where he's at, no one puts on 40lbs of muscle in a year without help, nobody! So he's never tested positive for steroids, I'll give him that. However, HGH isn't a steroid and his head looks like its doubled in size since college. All of that coupled with Dana's obsession for his nuts and you may have a feel for why I have such dislike for the guy.
  17. Because Lesnar is a pompous ass and I love to see Dana White all butt hurt when his cash cows get dominated. So, who thinks Brock would dominate Fedor? I personally would rather see a Cain/Fedor matchup before Fedor/Lesnar. Even though I think Brock beats anybody at HW on any given fight night, it's just awesome to see the tool get shcooled!
  18. Have you lost your mind? After the ass whoopin AS took in his last fight how could you speak of such a thing? AS would get killed against the HW's in the UFC. Brock, Brock, Brock...you were outclassed and out fought on so many levels. You got pushed around by the smaller man, he took you down, he hit you with knee and owned you in the striking game. So where's all of these "Brock is legit now"? He got where he's at on size alone, well the horseshoe shoved up his ass as well. He must have pounded the horseshoe out of Mir and picked it up for himself. If Carwin wouldn't have gassed he would have lost to him too. MMA rules supreme again! I would have loved to hear Cain say "now I'm gonna go home, drink a Coors light and hop on Brocks wife"! Awesome fight!
  19. Brother go back and watch the fight. Either you don't know what a combination is or you watched a different fight. Then again you probably missed them because they were so fast. Frankie threw plenty of combo's in that fight. That's what makes him so good, he throwing from every direction imaginable. BJ got out hustled and out fought for 5 straight rounds. I think the P4P arguement is pretty clear after the ass whooping Chael gave Anderson and the one BJ took last night. GSP is firmly at the top, no question about it.
  20. Computer has been on the fritz since Sunday morning so I haven't been able to post anything to ES. DAMN! Chael, WTF were you thinking? All you had to do was keep him close for two more minutes. No one would have thought you were a punk for getting on your bicycle the last two minutes. I mean, you whipped AS's ass for four straight rounds! Wow! If anyone has demonstrated the gameplan for beating AS Chael did it Saturday night. Awesome fight, awesome card! As for GSP, I think he's arguably the best MMA wrestler in the business. He's actually made MMA a science. I don't question his strength at all, I think he's a much stronger fighter that AS. I think what you have to question is his chin. Look at Chael's face after four rounds of completely controlling the fight. You have to wonder if GSP's chin holds up to that. I agree that you would have to give GSP a serious nod at the #1 P4P fighter in the world right now. For now anyway.
  21. Typically, except for Forest and Rich, AS looks bigger than most guys at 185. Sonnen looks to be about the same size. As much as I respect AS's skills I still think he's an overhyped douchebag who has done nothing but disrespect the sport and his opponents. His antics in the ring are no different than Brocks WWE bull**** he does. Difference is Brock does his after the fight. I for one, although I doubt it will happen, hope Sonnen finds away to pull it off. Then I woke up.
  22. I honestly don't know what fights you guys have been watching. Both you and Destino act like the bell rang and these guys flopped to their backs and asked Silva to fall into their guard. No one, not me, not another poster in this thread has ever insinuated for a minute that AS should play into his opponents strength. However, if AS is the best mother ****ing striker in the world then go smash somones ****ing face in! It's that simple! You mention Machida, he was in jeopardy of never getting a title shot if he didn't go out there and smash someones face in. Oh BTW, when fighters have tried to engage Silva he's used that little front kick to the knee to back them up. If what you say is true why doesn't he let them wade in and throw some counter strikes so he can KTTFO with the best hands in the WORLD! Call it what you will, if he's so bad ass he'd actually fight.
  23. But he's the best P4P fighter in the world! If he's so freaking good defend the freaking takedown. It's not like Maia, did nothing but shoot on him. if they go for a takedown hit them with a knee, isn't he a top notch muai tai fighter as well? I just don't buy it Destino. I'm not the type of MMA fan who boo's when fighers are working for position on the ground or they're feeling each other out. I understand the sport. However, Silva is a classless ***** with his taunting and acting like a baby when his opponent doesn't charge in with their chin up so he can knock them out. He expects them to do exactly what he refuses to do. Don't disrespect the sport, the fans or the sport with your bull**** antics.
  24. Not saying he should jump into someones guard. However, if you're the best striker in the world go beat somebody up. Don't stand back and taunt them, then get pissed when they don't chase you around the ring.
  25. I agree with you to a point. However, is Silva in this sport to fight or what? Seriously, it's a contact sport. Even Mayweather after all the criticism he received for running around the ring for 12 rounds and not finishing guys, has increased his level of aggression and is now taking the fight to his opponent. Silva is making himself into a joke. What I agree with is he doesn't need to go in there like a mad man and go Chris Leben on his opponent but if his opponent isn't fighting him don't stand in the ring and taunt someone for doing the exact same thing you are. Why in Gods name would anyone go in there and purposely get knocked out by him? If he's P4P and has such a great takedown defense or BJJ then why not wade in and make a fight out of it instead of acting like a baby when someone won't allow him to knock them the **** out?
