Think Keim mentioned Ron would like a vertical TE Threat and a Blocking TE to supplement Logan Thomas

You have to think we aren’t gonna spend either draft capital or cap space on two TE’s, Thaddeus has a big opportunity to fill that Blocking TE role, BIG

Kyle Rudolph? Good blocker with some skill, maybe a few years left?

No such thing with Jonnu off the board and Henry traveling around

I want Henry but I doubt it happens now. He’s going to get a fortune. We are probably targeting Gerald Everett, who is cheaper and would be a nice complement /move TE for us.

So if they locked him down long term for 15-16 annually for the next 5 years you’d be ok with it but one year 18 mill tag is just ridiculous?  They should just let him walk and hope there’s a rookie in the draft or guy in free agency that could come right in & mesh with the rest of the OL & play at that high of a level? Cmon.

List of ideal outcomes in order:

    1. Sign Scherrf to 4-5 year deal for 14 mil a year spreading out guaranteed money so his cap hit is more like 10 mil a year. (good)

    2. If he won’t sign for that, let him go (ok)

    3. Sign him for 18 mil for 1 year, costing 18 mil on the cap and then lose him to FA (very bad)

First team All-Pro Guard* Sure, you’d rather lock him down long term for less annually.  However, if he’s not gonna sign then get one more year of his services+ and then let him walk like Cousins.

*when he’s on the field. he’s had injuries consistently throughout his career.

+while paying him 4 million dollars more than the next highest paid guard on an absurd contract.

He would be a moron to sign any long term deal for less than 18 in first year and at least 30 plus guaranteed.

We should have offered 15 mil a year and let him go to FA if he wouldn’t take a deal that made him the highest paid G. This is insane.

Obviously hoping for a LTD before July but it’s just wishful thinking. Can we rescind the tag or can he just sign it and screw us over?

Anyone know who was pounding the table for Josh Doctson and Sua Cravens?  I'm trying to remember and can't.  Could it have been all McCloughan, or was it consensus or what?

Sua had great tape at USC. Joe Barry recruited him when he coached there, and so he vouched for his character. Too bad Joe Barry is a ****ing moron, and didn’t find out from his sources at USC that he walked away from the team and quit. Then guess what he did here lol.

Sean McVay was apparently really high on Doctson, and McC panicked and took him after trading down when Ryan Kelly (the player they desperately wanted, which they did a really poor job of keeping quiet) was snatched up by the Colts.

Welp, Jason Wright, Dan Snyder Lackey. What a spiteful hateful little troll...

    image.png.2b6f5d85a1e061686b9f547901ecbfd3.png

I’m all about criticizing Dan Snyder, who is awful, and the stuff with the cheerleaders was abhorrent (and possibly criminal) but this is a flat out ridiculous take. Pausing all aspects of game day entertainment, transforming the fan experience, rebrand etc. IS happening. Whoever recently was hired should decide whether to have cheerleaders, a band, pregame stuff, music, etc.  based on trends and fan interest and that’s totally logical and clearly would have happened regardless of the lawsuit.

Jason Wright doesn’t have to answer your question by eviscerating the team and his boss’ misconduct (that’s why they paid a settlement, so they don’t have to talk about it publicly). He can choose not to answer. Get the **** over it.

Heinicke/Allen is the stopgap, IMO.  If you bring in a guy like Mariota, that's not much better.   I bet either one of those guys could produce what Mariota can produce...if we get Mariota it doesn't really make us that much better.

Stopgap isn't the answer, we've got two guys that are already stopgap material. We need someone legit.

I would agree but if you can get Mariotta for cheap (5th?) that’s improving your chances that between one of the 3 in a competition you might get slightly above average QB play.

I would like to do better but we may not be able to trade up in the draft and a better option may not be available.

I don't think 2 6th rounders is going to do it.

I don’t really think Mariotta is going to take even that much. Maybe a 4th? A player? He’s a failed starter who showed some promise as a backup and he’s young. I guess if another team thinks he’s going to be their starter he could get something like a 2nd. I just think that’s nuts. My price would be a 4th or maybe some player combo or swap.

McLaurin + Samuel, however, is still a potent 1-2 punch and Samuel knows the offense well and is a playmaker. You probably save $$ on Samuel, which can be used to keep McLaurin long-term and build around those 2.

I’m with you on this. Also, if we don’t overpay for top tier WR we have some flexibility to go after a possible WR cap casualty to come compete with Harmon, AGG, etc.

Wentz is a guy I would only consider if the Eagles consider a serious discount for taking his contract.  Something like Troy Apke for Wentz and a mid round pick. I'd also put him in my consider pile if the Eagles cut him. They are moving off him and don't currently have anybody better to replace him?

    https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/philadelphia-eagles/carson-wentz-18950/

Exactly. The Eagles have no leverage, the player is diminished and is un cuttable. His cap hit is bad. They can’t keep a disgruntled backup QB for that amount, but the dead cap hit is 59 million, so they can’t cut him either. They HAVE to trade him. So why the **** would a team give up anything of value, even if they like him as a player? Wait it out, maybe do a player swap to get out of bad contracts. But please, don’t give up a decent pick, it’s lunacy.

Edited to include link. Not as bad from a cap perspective as I thought but I still don’t want him. I’d take a flyer if he’s released.

    image.thumb.jpeg.9120ccc2a25343975b5a2cb8d935a004.jpeg

  12. I’ll be furious if we trade anything of value for Wentz. He hasn’t played well in years and we would be saving a division rival from a failure of their own making. Why should we help them straighten out their cap and take a disgruntled distraction off their hands? The Eagles would have to send picks to WFT for me to consider it.

I hope this is erroneous reporting.

Is there any package we can come up with for DeShaun that doesn't include Chase Young?

I’m really interested to see when the Texans actually process the fact that Watson is not going to play for them. I still think there is a decent chance they play hardball and pull a Bruce Allen after the draft, making Watson sit out. If that’s the case once they ultimately become desperate to save face and deal with their disastrous situation, their demands will come WAY down.

But assuming the Texans try and get maximum value before the draft, I don’t think we can compete with the Jets or Miami without Chase and I’m not doing it.

I'm not buying Texans position of power in this negotiation.   And wasn't this Matt's first time getting hurt like that?  It happens, beggers can't be choosers, Watson holds the cards here, not his front office.  At least try the offer, hes a pro bowl player, again, injuries happen.

I could not disagree more on Texans’ leverage. Watson is the most respected, talented player on the team and plays the most important position. He’s a QB and team captain. The Texans have no leverage. I hope they play around and pull a Bruce Allen, because if they don’t deal before draft and teams use their picks and draft QBs they are getting maybe 2 firsts and 2 seconds, at best. But if they take Matt and 2 firsts from us I’ll do backflips. And I think if Jon Allen rejects our LTD (and our perception of his value versus his perception of his value are too far apart) I’m trading him so we don’t lose him in FA.

That tweet about what would be needed? Hell no. It would mean 1&2 this year, 1&2 next year, Sweat and Payne.

    no.

btw, trading huge assets on the DL, ok. Whatever. Trading high end picks that would be needed to replenish said talent ... is the problem.

Okay you can re-sign Kerrigan and the drafting some mid round DL this and next year in hopes of striking gold, but you weaken the DL. Not to mention no premier picks to address longterm talent issues at LT, WR, CB ... spots that usually require high picks.

    hard pass

The interesting thing is Houston is still acting like Watson is not available and will play for them. They are telling teams as much. It’s possible the Texans’ stupid owner and his crazy Rasputin will pull a Bruce Allen. I’m hoping they goof around trying to force Watson to come back into the fold past the draft, and the Jets, Miami, and other teams use up all their  picks. By June, when Watson is still not budging, they are forced to trade him. Competition will still be robust but cap space and new QBs will limit it. And that’s when we pounce. Trade Watson for Jon Allen (if we can’t come to a LTD) or Payne and next years first and second and first in 2023.

Piecing together the various reports, its becoming clear to me the Lions are getting a lot of interest, but not the type of offers they expected.

Maybe the 49ers offer of multiple 2s and 3s is real.  Maybe it isnt.  But its getting floated for a reason.  So is the Rams interest.

I think you have to assume the Skins and Colts have both dangled our 1sts and its a stare down as to who adds the better sweetner.

I wonder if we could win a deal without getting to our max offer (hypothetically two firsts) by offering 1st this year, and then swapping our first next year with their 2nd next year. That’s a lot of value, but I’d be pretty confident we have a much better record than Detroit next year- I think they will be terrible. So, we would actually only be giving up #19 and then the different between our first next year (let’s say, 22) and their 2nd (let’s call it 40).

I would give two 1's for Stafford. No more. Assuming he's good next year's 1st will be pretty low.

I agree, that’s the max I’m giving up, and I think it’s what it will take.

Caveat being if Stafford is really set on going to West Coast (I know he has a house there) and will only play out his two years I’m not trading for him at all. I want an extension so we get 3-4 years out of him if I’m giving up two firsts.

**** it, let’s be that sucker. Get it done.

Interesting quote above from the Lions. Best value. We can force the Lions hand by being aggressive in pursuit of Stafford if we really want. I honestly don’t get the hang up over the #19 pick. Top 10 range pick, would totally get it.

Totally agree. To me, the difference between a top 3, top 7, and 7-12 picks are huge compared to 19. Usually seem to be 5-7 elite players in each draft not counting QBs. When you get into 19-32 it’s not that different from a 2nd round pick.
