  1. Grant & Danny ranking jobs.

    I agree with them.

    1.  Chargers

    2.  Us

    3. Falcons

    4.

    5.

    6.

    7.  LV

    8.  Carolina

Its close for me at #1... we have #2 pick but Herbert is a bird in hand.  We are in much better shape with the cap.  They have some aging stars.  Not much of a fan base but have a nice stadium.

I got an alert on my phone that pointed to an article in ESPN+ which I don't have, but the alert indicated Commanders focusing on defensive HCs.

Anybody else see that alert and/or see the article?  I don't know that I believe it, but I also could have mis-read it.  And I can't go look at it because of the pay wall.

I have ESPN+. This is all Im seeing.

Who could the Commanders target for their opening?

Fowler: Much will depend on the search for the president of football operations. That candidate will likely have a heavy say in who the new coach is, and Washington is moving fast in that area, set to interview five candidates by Wednesday night. The franchise is looking for a blend of analytical and on-field acumen between both figures in a true pairing. I don't get the sense it is tied to one side of the ball for a coach; it is looking for a quality leader.

That's where a strong defensive field -- including Quinn, Morris and Macdonald, each of whom have been requested for an interview -- might have an advantage. I was told not to totally discount Harbaugh for this job, coaching about an hour away from his brother, John, in the greater D.C.-Baltimore area.

Graziano: The presence of former Warriors GM Bob Myers and former Vikings GM Rick Spielman as consultants in this search is interesting. Going beyond the NFL for help certainly indicates team owner Josh Harris will look for the best overall leader, rather than thinking about whether he should get an offensive mind or defensive mind. This is what all teams should be doing -- looking for CEO types at head coach -- though too often we see them go the other way. Harbaugh certainly fits the bill, as would Quinn, who was successful during his stint in Atlanta (2015-20) and knows how to do the job.

I imagine they will at least interview offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, though I don't imagine they're eager to promote from the current staff. It feels like a fresh approach is the way they'll go here -- total reset under new ownership.

Fowler: It's an underrated job, Dan. The Commanders have nearly $80 million in 2024 cap space, five picks in the top 100 of April's draft, including the No. 2 overall pick. If Chicago takes USC's Caleb Williams, Washington could control the draft, either taking the second-best quarterback (likely North Carolina's Drake Maye or LSU's Jayden Daniels) or fielding trade offers to move down and add more picks. It will attract major head-coaching talent as a result.

This has been my preferred structure from day 1.  They're calling it Head of Football Operations, I was calling it President of Football Operations, but doesn't matter, it's the same thing.

However, I'm confused with one part of your post, are you saying Peters is GM? or Peters is the HOFO?

Doesn't Peters already basically have the GM job with SF?  Lynch is the HOFO and basically in charge along with Shanny.  To get Peters here I assume we would have to give him the job Lynch has - basically the Czar.

I doubt Jack Kent Cooke knew much about football....so he hired smart football people. It's really not that complicated.

Cooke wasn't an insecure ego maniac with a Napoleon complex.  Those types are so insecure that they constantly worry about how they look.  They are terrible people to be around.  They also don't like themselves and that manifests itself in the way they treat others.

Cooke He just wanted to win.  Dan was truly a cancer and I hope he gets help for his own sake.

It'll be interesting to see if Peters declines the interviews with others.  We'll know from that whether he's taking the job!

Have to assume he will meet with the Raiders and Chargers since its already been reported.  If he wasn't interested in the job I would assume there would be no report about the meeting request.  Who knows.  Hopefully its a match and he wants to be here and we want him..

Finlay (granted not always the most plugged in) said he heard Peters has a strong shot here and he's heard he has real interest in this job.

Wonder if @Thinking Skins checked out on him, yet?

Im really hoping they hire Peters.  He checks so many boxes for me of what I hope they get as a GM.  Just for curiosity sake I did some reading over on one of the good 49er forums.  They love the guy.  They want Lynch to step aside or take a different role so they don't lose Peters.  Many suggest that much of their success is because of Peters.

While there I also saw a thread on Chase... Originally they were super excited for the signing... now they don't want him resigned and are disappointed in giving up a 3rd rounder. lol

  7. Enjoy Retirement along with the payday that comes with getting fired.  Seemed like (and by all accounts was) a good man - just not a good coach.  While a lot of the lack of success of the past 4 years rests solely on Dan it was time for Ron to do something else somewhere else.

The team has requested interviews with various coaches.  Shouldn't the GM be interviewing the potential coach candidates? How is this supposed to work under Harris?

I think Harris said something to the affect that a GM (head of football ops) would be brought in and then the focus would be on the HC.  I also believe that they can start talking to all GM candidates now where they have to wait for coaches (if the team they work for is still playing)... this seems to suggest a GM will be hired first and soon and that person will have input on who the HC will be.

I admit to having a soft spot for Wright since I think that ES would've been dead in October if he didn't jump in to fix the problem when we were shut down for a few days.

    Cool.

Counting the seconds till Wright is fired.  Need to eliminate as much as we can that has any connection to Dan.  Wright and the embarrassing name are at the top of the list now that Ron is gone.

  10. Damn this is fast and furious.  They've obviously been working on this list behind the scenes for months.  Sooo nice to see GM names along with coaching names.  So nice to see that there has been a plan (not that anyone is surprised) in place for some time.

Exciting stuff.  This new ownership group is doing it right and now this is actually a franchise people want to be a part of.

We've had way too many misses over the years. I know no draft is perfect but damn we need someone who is truly good at evaluating players.

For sure and who will that be?  Presumably a new GM currently on another staff that is still chasing a title.   That person will have a lot of work to do in a short period of time.  Need our next Bobby Bethard.

For what we've endured over the last 25 years I think we have every right to be greedy and take everything we can get lol

Exactly.   I want a franchise QB, a great GM and HC, a new name/mascot that isn’t embarrassing and a new stadium.  Followed by consistent playoff wins.

    thank you.
