If Williams doesn’t come out I think there is potential that they pass on one.

If Williams is in the draft: 0% chance they pass on QB

If he’s not? 30% chance they pass.

What are the chances CW doesn’t declare?  He didn’t play in the bowl game.  His stock could plummet if things don’t go well next year.  He is coming out.   Just waiting to declare for some weird reason.

  2. There is a lot of negative pub surrounding CW.  Its only going to get more intense leading up to the draft.  How will he handle the pressure if taken first overall?  Going to really be interesting to see what the Bears do at 1.  Supposed comments regarding not wanting to play in Chicago.  Still waiting to declare.  Little too much drama for my liking.

Kinda hoping that he goes #1 to the Bears or to whoever trades up.  Go with Maye (or Daniels if thats who Peters & co. prefers).  Obviously I know nothing other than what I read/see but the vibe surrounding CW is not good.

He also said that he recently learned that the first draft afte ra team hires a new GM isn't typically that GM's draft board.  Feels that Peters' first complete draft for us will be next year.

Your buddy could be correct as it relates to other teams where the previous GM wasn't Ron Rivera.  Peters' first draft will most definitely be THIS year.

  4. One would have to think that this hire will absolutely help fill any and ALL other openings we have.  At this moment, what coach or FO staff wouldn't want to be a part of this?  The most sought after GM candidate came here.  We have big draft and Cap capital.  We have a quality new owner.  There is a lot of excitement about the rebuild and future.  I say we have become the first choice for most if not all potential hires.

  5. FWIW... 9er fans not happy.  From one of their forum:

"Huge Blunder by Jed York, Lynch and Shanahan.  Peters Should've been promoted to GM months ago.  When things are working well you don't let a guy like Peters get out of the building.  EGO's don't win football games.  Its one thing if the organization was getting compensation but they're getting nothing."

"This team will look back on today as a big failure.  Watch our drafts and evaluations of personnel fall off a cliff."

"They have Mayhew.  Why do they even want Peters?"    LOL

    "Straight up Heart Breaking"

"Huge loss, Should've been promoted to GM.  Im sick"

"Per Florio the Niners tried hard to keep him.  It sounds like he wanted to spread his wings and run his own shop"

We don't even know if Peters himself was the one advocating for Lance. Could have been Lynch or Shanahan. Peters was not the head honcho in San Fran.

And even then, I'll never kill a guy for targeting a QB he loves and going up and getting him. I'd rather take the ballsy guy who goes for it then a guy who'd rather draft LBs and CBs and keep kicking the QB need down the line.

Exactly.  FWIW (not much but...) Ive been reading more over on a 49er forum.  Some of their fans are not happy to be losing Peters if it happens.  Others are in denial about what impact Peters actually had on drafts.  A seemingly knowledgeable person chimed in suggesting that Peters was very involved in mid to late round picks.  Basically Shanny and Lynch went with Peters on those picks while they focused more on the top picks in the 1st and 2nd rounds.  The Lance selection was likely at the very least not all on Peters.

I don't see the Chargers being #1. Their owner is garbage and has been for a couple decades. They have no fans, they play 17 road games a year.

agree.  Its the QB which aren't easy to find.  But in the long run if a GM has confidence in their abilities and/or really like Williams and Maye then Washington has to be at the top.

If your Peter's your listening to all offers, not settling on the very first is understandable. There may be multiple back and forth, multiple interviews, may take a little longer than we would like. Then again he could be immediately wowed. I don't think it's cause for alarm.

I kind of think that goes both ways.  Washington is a desirable job... Both should be doing due diligence and looking at all options.  That takes a few days.  If its meant to be and a fit then great.  Peters is who Im hoping for.

  9. Grant & Danny ranking jobs.

    I agree with them.

    1.  Chargers

    2.  Us

    3. Falcons

    4.

    5.

    6.

    7.  LV

    8.  Carolina

Its close for me at #1... we have #2 pick but Herbert is a bird in hand.  We are in much better shape with the cap.  They have some aging stars.  Not much of a fan base but have a nice stadium.

I got an alert on my phone that pointed to an article in ESPN+ which I don't have, but the alert indicated Commanders focusing on defensive HCs.

Anybody else see that alert and/or see the article?  I don't know that I believe it, but I also could have mis-read it.  And I can't go look at it because of the pay wall.

I have ESPN+. This is all Im seeing.

Who could the Commanders target for their opening?

Fowler: Much will depend on the search for the president of football operations. That candidate will likely have a heavy say in who the new coach is, and Washington is moving fast in that area, set to interview five candidates by Wednesday night. The franchise is looking for a blend of analytical and on-field acumen between both figures in a true pairing. I don't get the sense it is tied to one side of the ball for a coach; it is looking for a quality leader.

That's where a strong defensive field -- including Quinn, Morris and Macdonald, each of whom have been requested for an interview -- might have an advantage. I was told not to totally discount Harbaugh for this job, coaching about an hour away from his brother, John, in the greater D.C.-Baltimore area.

Graziano: The presence of former Warriors GM Bob Myers and former Vikings GM Rick Spielman as consultants in this search is interesting. Going beyond the NFL for help certainly indicates team owner Josh Harris will look for the best overall leader, rather than thinking about whether he should get an offensive mind or defensive mind. This is what all teams should be doing -- looking for CEO types at head coach -- though too often we see them go the other way. Harbaugh certainly fits the bill, as would Quinn, who was successful during his stint in Atlanta (2015-20) and knows how to do the job.

I imagine they will at least interview offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, though I don't imagine they're eager to promote from the current staff. It feels like a fresh approach is the way they'll go here -- total reset under new ownership.

Fowler: It's an underrated job, Dan. The Commanders have nearly $80 million in 2024 cap space, five picks in the top 100 of April's draft, including the No. 2 overall pick. If Chicago takes USC's Caleb Williams, Washington could control the draft, either taking the second-best quarterback (likely North Carolina's Drake Maye or LSU's Jayden Daniels) or fielding trade offers to move down and add more picks. It will attract major head-coaching talent as a result.
