  1. Simms or Esiason? Either way, they are not journalists like Keim or Schefter. If it was Esiason, I believe that was during a radio and he came across to me as expressing his belief/thought, rather than reporting some insider knowledge or source.
  2. Keim, the most reliable reporter on the Commanders, have been saying for a while now that Johnson was not a lock, Quinn was very high, and they had not settled on any particular candidate when Johnson withdrew and Macdonald took the Seattle job. Yet so many seem to take rando aggregator takes to buy that Commanders got spurned by their top choices and had to settle on Quinn. Just having a Twitter account or YouTube channel doesn't make one a reliable source of info.
  3. At minimum, a deep run into the playoff next year probably creates a big hurdle for him to remain in consideration or outright eliminates him. Teams will likely be reluctant to roll the dice on him not repeating what happened this year.
  4. Your original statement made no distinction. But even then, you really can't make generalization about a coach from a small sample size of W-L record. Belichick lost almost every game towards the end the season in the lead up to his first firing in Cleveland. What did that say about his competence?
  5. Maybe some of us meant it when we said we want professional football people making the decisions. Quinn may be the right guy, he may be the wrong guy. But over a long stretch of time, football professionals making the decisions have a much higher likelihood of sustained success than owners or fanbase opinions.
  6. This is good practice for draft night. Team Macdonald. Team Quinn. Team Maye. Team Daniels. Team OMG WE SUCK!!!! I think we really cover all basis here.
  7. On one hand, if they still wanted to push for him, I'm sure they would've asked to at least go through with a meeting. But on the other hand, it's not improbable for the team to conclude that if Johnson is not all in this year at a HC opportunity, then they are better off looking at other candidates. Eh, I mean in a theoretical sense sure. But is the chance of EB being the next HC or even OC meaningfully higher than before? I wouldn't have taken +1000 (or whatever the line was) before and I still wouldn't take it.
  8. If Johnson stayed because of a raise, then what were the Commanders supposed to do? Offer to top it even before the interview? Don't salary negotiations happen after the HC interview is over? If Johnson doesn't want a head coaching job right now, then he probably isn't the guy right now and changing his mind by backing up the Brinks truck probably isn't the way to go. Go hire someone else (and no, not EB). For all the sky is falling about needing an offensive guy as HC, it looks like Stroud coming off a terrific rookie season is going to continue with the same OC next year.
  9. I think there are too many QBs near each other to rank them with a cutoff line at 10. But I view it as QBs with legitimate argument as the best in NFL or at least very close. Then are the QBs who can't stake a claim as among the best, but undoubtedly can win and even win a championship with. Goff belongs in that second category for me (along with another 10 or so QBs probably).
  10. Boy this is going to be a rough offseason for Detroit fans. Campbell is gonna catch a lot of flack for the 2nd half decisions
  11. Maybe for Maye (though certainly he's been criticized for appearing to have tunnel vision at times), but does it really apply to Williams? For starters, I don't think Riley's system asked Williams to do lot of high level NFL type timing/anticipation execution to begin with.
  12. Do any of the QBs consistently demonstrate tight window throws over the middle with anticipation? To begin with, I think the opportunity to play against defenses in college at a level where the QB play needs to throw with NFL level anticipation are just not that numerous to begin with. I've seen this been touted as Maye's strength, but even those talk about his ability to do it, not that he has consistently done it. I think coaches would look more at can a player be taught to do this rather than can he do it right now.
  13. I think "legitimate NFL starter" has a wide room for interpretation. His other tweets seem to indicate that his opinion of Stroud is pretty low. But yeah, bad is probably overstating on my part, but the lead up to last year's draft is full of negative tweets about Stroud, below being some samples.
  14. I wonder how the guy has been with past predictions. I saw he thought Stroud was gonna be bad and was very pro Howell in the lead up to the draft, fwiw.
