  1. Howell essentially sat for an entire season (except for 1 game where he started) and it seems like it did him no good. Which reflects poorly on him more than it suggests that sitting is not valuable (which it can be for a competent QB with an aptitude for learning, which Howell does not seem to be)
  2. I'm not sure that there's an actual rule against this sort of behavior, though.... It's not the same as tampering with a team's players since CW is not part of any team yet and also I'm pretty sure draft picks and their families speak all the time with a variety of different teams that might pick them...
  3. would be a realistic possibility if Williams’ camp sends out signals that he might not want to be in Chicago…
  4. There is a school of thought (not sure I’m in that camp yet) that a draft where we end up with MHJ is a decent outcome. I would say that only could be true if we also found a way to trade back into the first round for a Daniels or Penix, or somehow managed to sign a top tier FA QB. But yeah if Howell remains penciled in as the starter for next season, I can’t see how this draft would be viewed as anything other than a colossal failure.
  5. well then we clearly have to take MHJ to teach those Bears a lesson… - or at least create the impression we would. it would be a crazy game of chicken but if we take MHJ, we basically hold him ransom in exchange for the Bears sending over some of that massive haul they got the Pats or Giants to fork over to them.
  6. How much input can Caleb actually have on Chicago’s decision? This may be wishful thinking but what if he really sends out signals of not wanting to play for the Bears and preferring the Skins…. Perhaps it would only add to his reputational issues but since the Commanders are literally so close to being in position to draft him, it might be tempting for him?…
  7. Would this strike you as a fair proposal to move up from #2 to #1 (assuming Chicago is not intent on taking Caleb for themselves): our #1 plus giving back the second rounder (pick #40) they gave up for Montez Sweat? Too low? Too high?
  8. Which I happen to think would be Daniels over Maye, as I had mentioned in my post (but not really elaborated upon)...
  9. From a marketing perspective, the ideal scenario would be if Caleb Williams “came home” - nothing more heartwarming than a hometown hero…. if he’s not available, I think you gotta go with Jayden Daniels. I personally think he’s better than Maye but aside from that, if this new front office has any sort of interest in revitalizing the local fan base, Daniels is slam dunk choice over Maye. This might ruffle some feathers to say this, but the demographics of the fan base matter. This is DC aka Chocolate City we’re talking about. Why on earth would you pass up the electrifying Black quarterback who’s potentially the second coming of Lamar Jackson for a clunky white kid (we’ve already got one named Sam Howell by the way) unless you’re certain said white kid is 100% a sure thing (meaning Andrew Luck level talented, or above). I may get some flak for saying what I just said. But if the new owners care are able to read the room and market to their fan base, it’s an important consideration. Jayden Daniels would be perfect for DC. Drake Maye would be perfect for Boston (those who know Boston know what I’m talking about). Everyone goes home happy. but yeah, if somehow Caleb can be had, either for the #2 or with a reasonable trade up to #1 (my definition of reasonable trade up from #2 to #1 is anything where we don’t lose our 2025 first rounder; maybe our first this year, a second rounder from this year and a second rounder or even third rounder from next year; or maybe our first plus a player like Jon Allen who doesn’t want to be here anyway), then that would be the ideal.
  10. Sam hOwell doing his best to make sure we’re stuck with his sorry *ss….
  11. They probably meant to say, entering the 4th quarter
  12. I’ve seen a few where the Giants move up to as high as 1 and end up with Williams…. Would be a terrible outcome (for us) imho
  13. You’re selectively ignoring a lot of strong counter examples - Brock Purdy, Stroud, Trevor Lawrence, the list goes on and on…. There are quite a few rookies who outperformed Howell during their rookie year by a wide margin
  14. Anyone else concerned the Giants may end up with Caleb Williams or Jayden Daniels? That would suck. How do we deter the Bears from a trade down with our arch rivals? One way is to make clear that we will take MHJ at 2 if he’s available (and mean it). That would make Chicago think twice about a trade back.
  15. I really hope we don’t go for Drake Maye if we pick 2nd (and somehow can’t get Caleb Williams). Would rather have Jayden Daniels or even Marvin Harrison Jr.
  16. And that 2-0 start - what a “nonblessing” in disguise that turned out to be…. if we could have just lost both of those games (games we deserved to lose), we’d be golden right now…
  17. Heinecke had a clutch gene and a moxie that Howell seems to be utterly lacking in. Also, Taylor won more games than Howell and didn’t crap the bed against some of the worst teams in the league. TH seemed to inspire his teammates and was an underdog feel good story. Howell doesn’t really seem to be able to rally others around him and tbh, it doesn’t look like his teammates care that much for him (despite all the public statements and platitudes). Actions speak louder than words. Look at the change in play and momentum when he was replaced the last 2 games. Howell has been here two years and been the starter for almost a whole season. It’s not unreasonable to cut bait when something isn’t working out especially when you’re in position to actually do something about it. In this case, we can, due to our high draft pick. Lastly, not every year is a good year for drafting a QB. As luck has it, this is a good year. Who knows about 2025…. In fact, Howell’s year was one of the worst in recent memory for QBs apparently (from a talent perspective) and even then no one took him until we did in the fifth round.
  18. Yeah, unlike Howell, he actually might be making a strong case for himself.
  19. Yeah, who in their right mind would want an injured Penix? 😂😂😂
