  1. He was indeed the king of bad decisions. Yeah, I know, his OL sucked., etc. etc., but still his decision making was p__ poor, and that was a knock on him in college. It's also why I am hoping we don't go for Maye, who has been prone to some pretty bad decision making when pressured, from the tape I've seen...
  2. Only 2 points in rebuttal: 1) Jacoby came in and lit it up with next to no time to prepare with that same line and group of receivers. 2) Far from being unlucky, he was probably the luckiest 5th rounder in many a moon to be given the keys to the kingdom with virtually no QB competition. He simply failed. That’s ok on him. I’m sure he’ll have a perfectly fine career in insurance sales.
  3. I agree with what you said about RG3 ptsd influencing people’s thinking here a bit too much, and causing them to have an irrational bias against Daniels. I’m glad that AP and crew don’t seem to have that particular flaw in their thinking and hopefully won’t be swayed by that nonsense.
  4. I wonder if the front office will actually allow this to factor into their decision. One QB is electric and fun to watch while the other is a bit more stiff and boring. As a team looking to revitalize fanbase interest after years of putrid play at the QB position, I think it actually is a legitimate factor to consider when making the decision. Man, I hope we take Daniels. It would make the games on Sundays a lot more fun for Commanders fans to watch than if we took Maye.
  5. I would take it. In theory it looks like we’re giving up a lot but anything that lets us keep not only our first rounder but also our second rounder in 2025 is a huge win, IMO.
  6. the only thing any rookie QB would learn from Sam is how to be terrible and how to throw pick 6s all the time. Hard pass on this. Also, I think the rest of the team would probably start an uprising if this were the case. Last season was already spent as a lost season because somehow the coaches couldn’t move on from Sam, and now you want to continue to still tie the Sam Howell albatross around this team’s neck for another season? No thank you.
  7. That Michigan team was so dominant that the amount of times they were actually behind (trailing the other team) was extremely low, which is kind of remarkable when you think about it. Does it make the sample of work less reliable? Perhaps, since it suggests that the “pressure” on JJ in those situational passer rating situations probably was a lot lower for him than for the other QBs?… but I’m not really sure. I do like Jayden’s numbers in this category a lot too haha - and that is a bigger sample size
  8. He wasn’t able to bring them back in quite a few games - the Washington and Oregon losses in particular come to mind. It was a lost season by that point and I think the team had kind of quit but he definitely seemed very beatable in those final games of the season. Maybe last season paints a different picture but this season he was not a good “come from behind” quarterback. I actually go to USC for grad school and often ended up passing up tickets to go to those late season games. As those games were playing out, I remember often thinking - wow, that would suck if Caleb pulled off some historic come from behind victory and I missed watching that live - but it never happened lol. I think the closest one was the Utah game, which pretty much ended their BCS chances.
  9. If I had to look for a trait that I think I would most want in our next QB, it would be that “clutch” gene, the ability to remain calm and deliver a win in daunting circumstances. All of the Washington QBs for the last 20 years had the exact opposite of that clutch gene - I’m looking at you, Kirk Cousins. that to me is what separate the Pat Mahomes from all other QBs in the league. for what it’s worth, having watched a bit of USC football this past season, Caleb actually doesn’t really seem to have a huge abundance of this gene, tbh. With one exception, he didn’t really will his team to victory in those crucial situations, and he certainly faltered down the stretch as the season wore on. Didn’t watch as much of Maye so I can’t really speak to that aspect of him, but something tells me he’s not exceptional in this regard either. I do like that Daniels seems like the hardest worker of the bunch.
  10. You could say the same for Maye. To be honest, I think his flaws and shortcomings are even more overlooked by his defenders than they are for Daniels and his defenders. I’m talking here about the sort of unwavering blind support he’s given by those who want him as for the Daniels hype issue, um yeah, to be expected: he did win the Heisman after all - and did so in incredibly impressive fashion. What I don’t like about Maye is his regression and his UNC background (and poor showing against some of the weaker teams in the ACC). And yeah, the fact he came from the same school and program as Howell (and is apparently close friends with him) is not good.
  11. I agree with you, but the “comparable” for CW is always PM, as opposed to say, Lamar, or Josh Allen, or Jalen Hurts. Again, I think it’s simple minded to think in such reductive terms but I think it’s an easy mental trap to fall into, and if the pundits/media/execs keep touting Caleb as the next Mahomes, it could color people’s thinking? Everyone will be looking for the next Mahomes, regardless of whether such a person even exists…
  12. Anyone else worried this SB might have lessened our chances of being able to trade up for Caleb Williams? It sounds almost simplistic to say this, but CW is almost always touted as the next Mahomes…. And if this is the case, will the Bears find themselves unable to say no to Caleb?
  13. If Caleb's willing to go full Eli, that means he tells those other teams to take a hike and he makes it clear exactly where he wants to go: home. In fact, I would say the mere threat of him possibly doing that, i.e., possibly holding out, would be enough to scare off those other teams from even offering up that "ransom" of picks.
  14. Or if Caleb actually threatens to hold out on the Bears, they might just have to settle for our first round #2 pick and getting their original second rounder back. Pulling an Eli would keep the Bears from getting too greedy.
  15. Yeah that would be cool - and if people want to say it's a s**tty move for Caleb to try to pull and Eli, I would also say it's greedy AF for Chicago to try to get a huge draft haul (anything that would require the Skins giving up more than their first this year and a second rounder next year) for moving down just one spot, so they deserve to be Eli'd
  16. He’s not delusional and always seemed a bit more candid, perhaps even blunt, than some of the other players. Also, more to the point, I have no reason to believe the players are actually loyal to Sam. Even if they publicly declared they love him, I suspect they don’t want to be dragged down by his mediocre (at best) play.
  17. He’s from here. It would make for an amazingly cool narrative, not that different from LeBron wanting to play for Cleveland because he’s “just a kid from Akron.” I’m not saying the rumors are true either, but apparently he was a fan growing up, and he has posted social media stuff suggesting he follows the team closely and cares a lot about the DMV. Not sure it has much added financial value in terms of his endorsements (maybe it does), but it has a strong emotional and sentimental appeal. And imagine if he revived the franchise and delivered a championship to this beleaguered fan base? The hoopla behind that would be insane! And definitely more so than if he won a championship for any other team. It would be an epic and historic tale not just in NFL history but sports history overall, and he couldn’t get that anywhere else, because for no other team would he be “the hometown kid.”
  18. Sorry if this is a dumb question , but why did Byron Leftwich fall out of favor as a coaching candidate? I thought Tom Brady raved about him as an excellent Xs and Os guy and also as a quarterback whisperer. Add the fact that he’s from DC, and wouldn’t he be at least a name worth considering?
  19. Although each of those two would merit a first round pick in a trade, they might not be valuable enough to be the equivalent of the #1 overall pick in the draft. Arguably the only one who might fit that would be Patrick Mahomes.
  20. I would love Kirk in San Fran. It would doom them to multiple years of getting no further than the divisional round.
  21. The same Kirk who crapped the bed against a Giants team with nothing to play for when the playoffs were on the line? The same Kirk who was Captain Choke Artist against any meaningful opponent? The same Kirk who has the football IQ of a rock? I know, thankfully you’re not really considering him, right? but I have seen plenty of other people clamoring for him to return to the Commanders. I don’t get the Kirk Cousins love. He is emblematic of why I’ve hated rooting for this franchise these past 10 years. Overblown hype disguising unabashed mediocrity. He can take his chest puffing “You Like That!!” and shove it as far as I’m concerned. He is the polar opposite of the type of QB I would want leading this team in what I hope will be a true resurgence over the next few years.
  22. Watching this weekend of playoffs just reinforces what a mistake it would be to take Maye over Daniels. Left and right, we are seeing QBs winning these games with their legs. Definitely go with the dual threat (Daniels) over pocket passer (Maye). And each successive year, this will only prove to be even more true, in terms of how the league is evolving. just my opinion.
  23. Two reasons: I’m incredibly impressed with how much Jayden Daniels has grown over the course of a single year. The fact that he’s trending upwards, versus perhaps even regressing in his final college year the way Williams and Maye have (arguably) done is significant. To me it indicates an intangible : dedication and ability to learn, which can’t really be taught. Secondly, I think his style of play fits better with the modern NFL and where it’s trending as well. He’s a legit dual threat, and frankly I think I would just flat out enjoy watching him every Sunday much more than I would Maye. lastly, and I confess this is probably a flimsy reason, the fact that Drake Maye came out of the same program as Sam Howell (whom I do consider to be a mediocre QB at best, sorry to all the Howell fans) bothers me and concerns me. and if the whole point of drafting a QB at #2 is to really swing for the fences, then Jayden is your choice. Most people agree that Maye is the #2 to Williams #1. So we would be getting someone almost as good as Caleb but not quite as good (unless of course Caleb is a bust). But Jayden, if he really does continue to develop, arguably has a higher ceiling than even Caleb Williams, by some accounts. If you really want to swing for the fences, then really swing for the fences: Jayden Daniels.
  24. Yes, Jayden Daniels is a reason to not pick Drake Maye.
