  1. Predictions for UFC 79:

Soa Palelei vs. Eddie Sanchez: Eddie has UFC experience, Soa doesn't. Soa's a big freakin' fighter at 265. Eddie should be able to handle it with his octagon experience and intense style. Sanchez Split Decision.

Rich Clementi vs. Melvin Guillard: Melvin usually does well against strikers. Clementi has to take this to the ground. I think he will, and he'll succeed. Clementi round 2 sub.

Rameau Sokoudjou vs. Lyoto Machida: Very well could be the fight of the night. Soko's two upset victories in Pride were due to no video to gameplan from and Soko's devistating punching power. Machida is very technical with striking, but has no KO power. If he plans to score points against Soko, he better have a great gameplan. I think he will, but he'll run out of tricks in the 3rd round. Soko, TKO round 3.

Chuck Liddell vs. Wanderlei Silva: Chuck is a great counterpuncher, something Wanderlei has fallen victim to in some of his losses. Wanderlei is a great attacker, something Chuck has fallen victim to in most of his losses. This is Chuck's chance at getting the respect he lost after the quick KO from Rampage and the abominable loss to Jardine. I think he'll counter Wanderlei's diving strikes in the first round. This is one fight, that I think Chuck will actually do what he says and "knock him out in the first round". First round KO.

Matt Hughes vs. Georges St. Pierre: Matt should just lay down the whole time and wait for George to go to the ground. Even so, George is fantastic down there. I think when Serra went down and Matt heard George wanted the fight, he took a dry gulp and signed on. Matt is simply a great wrestler with dominant ground & pound, but he has a poor standup. He has to get GSP down, and GSP would be happy to oblige. Unanimous decision - GSP.

I so agree about the dry gulp. :)

I'm in line with you on every call. I think Melvin and Wandy have the best chance of proving us wrong.

  2. Well, here comes the end of the year event. This weekend has shaped up to be an incredible one for sports, personally.

Won't make my predictions now, but I have a few feelings towards who will win their matches. Gonna have to wait 'til the weigh-in to see if Chuck has shed a little bit of that belly.

Wow, Christmas took me out of the MMA frame of mind so I completely forgot about this weekend's event. I can't wait.

  3. Yeah, maybe the UFC and Arlovski's falling out has extended a little ways back. If he's going to leave, why give him a headline fight? It'll only be advertising him for the future when he fights in another org.

I am SO dying to see Arlovski vs. Filipovitch. Just sign them to it and throw it on the UFC 81 card NOW.

    (Loser leaves the league.)

  4. Rua had torn is ACL before the fight and has had surgery since.

Rua destroyed Ramapage. KO'd him in the first round. His only other loses are to Mark Coleman (A HW. Coleman went for the takedown and Rua posted and dislocated his elbow) and he lost to Reneto Sobaral (Another HW who beat Rua, Tervor Prangley and Jeremy Horn all in one night to win a IFC turnoment)

Rua has KO's Alistir Overeem twice. Submitted Kevin Randleman. Beat Lil Nog by deciosn and then KO'd Ricardo Arona to win a Pride Torny. KO's Akira Shoji and Akihiro Gono. Also has a decision win over Nakamura. Plus he has won 3 Mecca fights in Brazil that are bareknuckle anything goes.

He is only 26 and hasn't really reached his prime yet.

To say Griffin needs more in his arsenal to beat Rampage, I don't think thats true.

Excellent point and yeah, I'm well aware of Rua's career highlights and that's why I used the words "shocked the world" about Griffin's victory over him. But if Shogun had a torn ACL in that UFC bout, it only goes to show that Griffin didn't beat the real Rua so I hope he has enough to beat the UFC version of Rampage.

I'm a HUGE Forrest Griffin fan. He's my favorite LHW and I'll be rooting for him vs. Jackson just like I did vs. Shogun Rua. He showed some huge leaps in grappling vs. Rua so he's benefitted from having Randy Couture training him. Hopefully Couture will have him ready this time. Perhaps I'm operating on the public perception of Quentin being "unbeatable" but Shogun did demolish him in Pride FC so maybe a relatively inexperienced Forrest will too. I just can't favor Griffin in this matchup.

  5. It's official, Rampage and Forrest are the next TUF coaches. I think it may be a decent fight because of the way Randy talks about Forrest's work ethic. Forrest seems to be making strides every time we see him. Even if Shogun was out of shape, it was Shogun.

There's no way in hell Forrest will have a chance standing against Rampage, he has to take him down. And if that happens, watch out for Rampage to throw his first UFC powerbombs against a fighter that's just learning greco roman.

    IMHO-

This fight comes too soon for Griffin. He shocked the world vs. Rua but he still needs more in his arsenal if he's going to hang with Jackson.

  6. Roger Huerta with the YOOGE heart. Not that Guida wasn't awesome. He dominated the first 2 rounds but Huerta's strikes in the 3rd dazed him and handed him the KTFO.

War Machine also proved his nickname tonight over J-Rock.

So does Danzig get a title shot now? Is it in 155 or 170?
