Even while winning the first round, Karo did not look like himself. He came in looking out of shape, he dropped a ton of weight for the fight, and was not as aggressive or dynamic as he has shown his standard to be. He got caught and went down like a bag of hammers. I'd have stopped it, but seeing the replay made me think he should have gotten 2 more seconds to show something. He's Karo, not a rook.

i did better than usual but still not that good, especially on the main card. although i did call Alves over Karo though. won a little bit of cash on that fight from a friend
I had Karo winning.
-
Main Card Bouts:
-Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon- Florian by sub.
-Karo Parisyan vs. Thiago Alves- Karo, but it won't be easy.
-Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch- Hamill by sub.
-Kurt Pellegrino vs. Nate Diaz- Diaz, baby! Sub.
-Frankie Edgar vs. Gray Maynard- Maynard, decision.
-Houston Alexander vs. James Irvin- Alexander by KO.
Preliminary Bouts:
-Marcus Aurelio vs. Ryan Roberts- Who?
-Din Thomas vs. Josh Neer- Neer by dec.
-Manny Gamburyan vs. Jeff Cox- Manny by dec.
-Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo- Guida and he better do it with authority. Too many close bouts. KO.
-George Sotiropoulos vs. Roman Mitichyan- George by dec.
-Tommy Speer vs. Anthony Johnson- Johnson. He's a beast. KTFO.
There you have it. My predictions on the spot with no research whatsoever. see you guys tomorrow night!!
I went 9-2 on picks. Didn't do so great on outcomes. (I didn't pick the Aurelio-Roberts fight.)
-
Florian got too good a position and won it on futility.
-
Bad stoppage, Alves didn't score with anything but the knee. The punches hit Karo's arms as he crumpled. Boxing lets you take more punishment than this crap. Mazagatti needs to be a social serviceman with that big heart.
Karo deserved another 2 seconds to lock it up. Both shots on the ground missed the head. Like I say though, my knee-jerk reaction as a viewer was to call it over.
-
hell yeah, Alves knocked out Karo, quick stoppage though
It was iffy but I would have jumped in, I must admit.
-
Why dd Boetsch go for the takedown when Hamill has the obvious advantage down there? He was doing fine standing up, could have had a breather, too. Dumb decisions tonight are costing me my picks!!
Note to all: Do not go to ground with Hams.
btw, Stroke- Don't you think Hamill fights almost drunk with confidence?
-
I think he was at work.
Landooooo. Pullin' the late shift.
-
that channel is offline, I'm heading out the door now, I'll be watching in about 30 minutes.
You know it's on Spike, right?
-
Come on whose got the sop channel dammit.
Lando- You get my reply on the bet for Serra-GSP?
-
Wow. Houston got JACKED UP!
Here comes Nate Diaz and Kurt Pellegrino.
-
-Matt Hamill vs. Tim Boetsch- Hamill by sub.
I forgot that Boetsch was the freak who tossed some guy on his face a while back before pummeling the guy into what should be his retirement. I can't change my prediction and I hope Hamill brings his A-game but wow, I wish I'd remembered Boetsch when I made the call.

Great analysis. I agree with everything you wrote. The only picks I disagree with are the first two. I think(hope) Roman beats George, and Speer beats Johnson by GNC
I''m not sure how the fights will finish, but I agree with the rest of your picks.
155 will be a very interesting weight class this year. If Edgar and Florian all win they are right up there with Huerta as 1a, b, and c contenders for the title. I would also like to see Din rematch Florian after losing because of a torn ACL if Din wins tonight.
Let's also not forget that if Serra loses to St. Pierre he is going to drop down to 155.
Not sure where that leaves Tyson Giffin and Joe Stevenson. Talk about a stacked division.
This just ensures that we will have a LOT of fun in this thread for some time to come.

HUGE card tomorrow night. I wish I could see them all.
I'm still torn on a couple picks.
Who ya got?

Wow. Every fight is a must-see. Where does Guida get off fighting a Schiavo? Hasn't that family been through enough?
(Okay, that was in poor taste but FUNNY.)

People will always point out Shamrock's arrogance, but it brings a great element to the fight. Always have liked fighters like Sakuraba, Rampage and Frank...have always liked that loose comfort fighters show while they're in there. Still admire Frank, hope to see a rematch.
Gotta admit it. It makes me watch him every time he fights. He brings a magic.
-
i still don't understand why didn't even try to put Le on the ground, even as he was losing the stand-up battle.
Me too. I suppose his ego was his undoing. He beat Baroni at Baroni's game and wanted to do the same with Cung Le. I'm just glad he got brutally beat and had to quit so there was zero excuses.
-
he dismantled a past his prime legend. Cung Le's one of my favorite fighters, but he still hasn't beat or even faced a top10 middleweight yet
I suppose he'd have to try his hand in the UFC before we find out. I know Frank has seen better days but he throttled Baroni and showed last night that he's still got heavy hands and resourcefulness. Cung is said to have been very effective vs. Frank as a sparring partner too when Shamrock was better.
BTW- It was a night of KOs and subs all around. Props to Strikeforce for a good show.
-
so who did I bet with that le would beat shamrock? Was it chachie? I cant remember and im too lazy to go through all the pages and find out!
Although I thought for sure Shamrock would win, I didn't make any bets because I can't stand the guy. A bet won on him isn't a prize I'd want to collect.
I should say though, that I was impressed with the way he hung in until his arm was broken. He was successful at pulling Le into his mind games and for about 45 secs in the 3rd round he made it work and almost KOed Le.
The more I think about last night's fight, the higher I want to rank Le in the top 10. Frank is a jerk, but he's a badazz. Cung Le dismantled a legend last night and survived a pretty good final stand by Shamrock before breaking his arm and pummeling him on the cage at the end of the round and subsequently the end of the fight.
-
Yep Frank was dumb to try and stand with him. And if Le had one punch/kick KO power he'd be a top 5-10 MW.
Good fight though.
In fairness, 99- He broke a bone.
I'd call him a top 10 MW but I don't wanna get into a list. It's saturday night.
-
I heard an official tell Cung that Frank's arm is broken. Cung replied, "I know."
-
Holy moly what a round 3. Frank almost found that miracle and dazed Cung repeatedly before Cung finally came back and ended the round with great kicks and shots. Cung might have edged out the round but Frank took a piece out of him.
What!?!? They just stopped it between rounds. Cung wins. Wow.
-
Cung is currently humiliating Frank. I hope Frank doesn't find another miracle because I'm living this.
-
Cung took the 2nd easily. He cracked Frank with a right that could have ended it if Cung decided to close it out. He may have been wise no to try though. Frank shook it off pretty quick despite being visibly shaken by the shot.

I love the guy, but- IMHO, Rich Franklin will never be the same after the Silva beatings. His nose is mush now and he won't have the killer instinct.
