    Hmm, shades of Bruce Irvin?

I seriously doubt we run much actual 3-4. But I do wonder about a lineup featuring a DT (Newton) lined up as a DE with the undersized Jamin Davis on the other side just attacking whatever he can opposite.

Davis certainly wouldn’t be an end.

And I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see us in odd fronts on occasion.

Newton and Allen as ends. Payne as nose (Mathis if healthy is a good option at nose).

    Davis as an OLB/Edge.

Having said that, Newton’s health may stop that from happening as well.

EDIT: I see what you’re saying now. You’re saying as an even front end.

    Ya.

    I think that’s possible, too.

If they saw absolutely anything at all in Davis, they wouldn't have brought in all the LBers and Edge guys that they did.

Disagree. Davis can function as a 3-4 OLB and be really, really good. I’m not sure we have anyone better to fit that role, either. The other edge guys are athletic enough (not Armstrong) to play the other OLB but you’d want to limit them In coverage. We also have Forrest and Quan who can roll up as a safety/LB in the coverage role.

The very next post, by KDAWG, I think gave the context.  If I read a post at 2am about EB being an average offensive coordinator, I want to be able to thumbs down without needing to post.  That is not the same as criticizing someone in person, where it is easy to add details.

If there is no rule against this type of behavior, I will continue posting in the manner of my choosing.  I'm not trying to be mean, just showing disagreement, without providing details.

Well, we know you have excellent taste.

Is it possible that he didn't have time to write a soliloquy about how he feels? So he just did a quick thumbs down?

While this thread is spiraling I will add my two cents: if you feel the need to thumbs down, I’d highly encourage some interaction as to why. If I know someone’s stance on something and I get thumbs downed, I know why.

If I have no idea how someone thinks, adding a brief line about why they disagree (doesn’t need to be a sililoquy (I’m not even sure what that is… I’m a football coach, me not know things) adds a lot to the forum.

Unless they reply with, “I disagree because I know things and you’re stupid”. Which is useless. And to me, most of the time, drive by thumbs down are essentially that statement with intent to troll.

That likely isn’t what some of these posters are doing. They probably just don’t realize the optics.

But I encourage people to hop in and if they want to keep it brief just stick to their thoughts, “I disagree because…”

Most times it doesn’t need to exceed a sentence.

Anyone reading who thumbs down, I realize you’re probably an awesome human with no intent to troll or patronize. Really, what I’d love to see is added discussion.

I get tired of reading the same takes over and over. Jump in the pool, no one besides @Koolblue13 bites.

  5. Wylie wasn’t scapegoated.

    He stunk.

    Howell, overall, did as well.

Interestingly, some of this forum always turn on the people who are no longer here and side with the people who are. If Wiley is gone this year or next, people will return to the “he stunk” narrative and not care what PFF said.

    This whole convo is wild.

Just out of curiosity why not?

I thought it was a little surprising but then again our roster is so depleted and we were so bad that it's tough to pick out someone who's underrated.

I guess I should have gone back a few pages and read the thread.

I didn't realize this had already been discussed.

Because he is so unpopular that he’s bound to at least be slightly better than we give him credit for.

You Might find this a bit surprising.

Wylie is pffs choice for most underrated player on our roster this year.

    WASHINGTON COMMANDERS: T ANDREW WYLIE

Wylie came over from Kansas City with offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy to play right tackle for the Commanders. Although he gave up a sack in each of his first four games with Washington, Wylie got better as the season went on and eventually earned a 69.2 PFF overall grade — a career-high mark for him on his way to ranking 16th among right tackles

want to believe that... badly... especially as good as he was his rookie season and the ceiling he showed. A player who loses motivation because of a coach makes me wonder. Some people can get the best out of others, some can't... but a player who just says "**** it" makes me worry.

Terry wasn't exactly in a position to succeed, was hurt and still got 1000 yards. He didn't have a season full of mulligans and mistakes.

    I don’t think Jahan said **** it.

    He just struggled.

You ever felt like you were getting ridden at work unnecessarily? And then you make little mistakes you usually don’t because you’re feeling pressure? I know I have at times. Not all the time. But it’s happened to me.

Now, imagine feeling that way week to week with a 250 lb linebacker running at you while you’re filling out TPS reports.

These are professionals and part of their growth is to figure out how to handle that stuff. And maybe he learned from last year.

But I’m not willing to throw away a great rookie year because of a bad year with a lame duck regime.

I feel the same about Forbes, in some ways.

Really, with everyone not named Wiley.

If it repeats this year - there’s a problem with the player.

To an extent but we certainly can't take all the culpability away from Jahan. When balls hit your hands, you gotta catch them. Especially as an NFL wide receiver.

I don’t know. I think you kinda can take away a lot of it if it’s true.

If a coach is always on you, doesn’t design things for you, puts you late in progression and makes you second guess yourself… it’s extremely difficult to play well for a young player.

You can say, “he needs to get through that…” and I’d agree. But these guys are human.

If he doesn’t improve this year, then ya, it’s a Jahan problem. The proof will show itself.

You didn't watch any uva games about 4 or 5 years ago? Dude was easily best player on the field.

Only time I watch UVA is when they play Miami. I like watching good football :P

  11. Using a little hindsight here, I feel better about Daniels than I originally did. But not because I didn't think he was a good player.

And not because I am changing my opinion. Just that I re-evaluated the weight I had on each attribute.

As a prospect, he's much cleaner than Maye.

My only real/major concern was durability. And while I will not discount that trait, as I value it's one of the most important traits in all of athletics, I do think that his ability to remain uninjured thus far despite treating his body like it was in a 1980's commercial that demonstrated gnarly car crashes and he was the test dummy, should have up factored him a bit more.

I had major concerns with Maye's footwork and in proxy, his accuracy. I think I was the first one to kind of push that point in this thread.

    Daniels is much cleaner.

I still worry, though, about the injury factor. But we drafted the cleaner prospect... Which does add some copium to my morning coffee.

Zaccheus Olamide. 26. Decent replacement level slot guy with a high water mark of 40/550/3 for the Falcons two years ago. Nothing special and more of a possession compiler but he’s a pro. The kind of guy you make a guy like McCaffrey beat out on his way up.

I watch a lot of football. Like… a lot. College, pro and high school.

I have never heard of this person. I didn’t even know they were on this team.

He is the eventual replacement for either Allen or Payne.

If you’re talking about balls, we can’t compare to Atlanta. Giving Kirk 180 million and 100 million gauranteed and then drafting Pennix at #8 in round 1.

Difference between balls and whatever it is Atlanta did.

I think both OT spots are an issue. The discussion point was specifically the merits of Coleman starting at LT. Different conversation.

    Again, though, it’s not.

Why can’t Coleman be our RT?

I understand you’re saying that the discussion was about “Coleman LT” and not “Coleman” and “LT” as separate entities. But I don’t think the conversation needs to be confined like that. That’s too binary of a viewpoint.

    Anyways…

Yeah this debate was more on Coleman at LT.

    RT, another issue,

I’d argue RT is the primary issue. Lucas can play RT and be an improvement to that side of the field. But we have no LT solution so he has to play there.

I actually think Lucas is best suited at RT.

While I don't consider him the answer over the long haul, I think Lucas is better than a turnstile. Maybe more like a loosely fastened chain-link gate.

I’m talking more about the other side.

Id accept occasional brick wall and occasional loosely fashioned chain-link for Lucas.

Logan Pauline said that a strong interior OL can make the OT position less critical if it can effectively bottle up the pressure coming up the middle. Maybe this was the theory behind "building from the inside out"?

    It certainly is.

However, a turnstile doesn’t function any better when it’s surrounded by solid steel and concrete. The turnstile still turns… fairly easily.

I wouldn't discount the concern about both feet having Jones Fractures, however that's not bad if you think about it.

He got those fractures from pushing guys into the ground with great force...that's what you want. He's a beast!

We also know he heals from this surgery in 4 months because he just did it.

I don't think it's a IR thing.  Maybe a PUP List thing possibly but from recent history we know he can be back on the field by September.

Four months of your rookie year from May to September means he won't have had training camp.

May not totally limit his ability, but he will certainly have limitations in training... and he just did it with the other foot.

I think he'll play. And probably be okay, at least at some point this year.

But he won't be fully effective until 2025.

Rating players that could make the team or position better rather than from a big board of rating best available at that position. Could be why we took Coleman over Bebe?

Can Coleman if he hits at LT make the team better? Bebe may be BPA but does he make the team better at G only? Do the 3 players they tock in the 2nd. rd. make the team better at CB,DT and TE and the team better versus the OT's that were available? That is what they are betting on and the way they do things in S.F. along with having a consensus pick by the group.

    With all due respect…

    What?
