  1. Awhile ago in this thread someone said something about "well if they somehow end up with McCarthy you'll be getting his authentic jersey anyway" and you said you had family that had more than enough. My question is: Were you referring to family who were Michiganders/Michigan fans and what is your favorite college team?
  2. Odd that he knows nothing but knew on a specific route that the Ohio State defender wouldn't turn his head around and threw a touchdown to Roman Wilson (in what was ultimately a tight game). I mean he talked about that immediately after the game and the video proves the defender didn't turn his head. How is he picking up on that but not knowing where to go? I don't have them handy but on advanced metrics, McCarthy seems most apt (at least in terms of percentage) to throw on third downs past the sticks. Does that mean you aren't right on the play you describe, of course not, I'm sure you are. But I know I've done the same breakdown on pro QBs and been bewildered. Every QB, no matter how great, misses a guy here and there. I'd want to know if it represents a failure to pass to the left (again, the metrics have been posted so we need to use those solely rely on your tape watching) overall. However, the notion that he's just told where to throw in a pro type offense and that's it doesn't make sense to me. I do think consistency is in his decision-making is something to work on as I've seen it. He needs more reps overall, he's younger than any other prospect, and he does seem to need to "loosen up" by getting a run or scramble in when the offense went cold.
  3. It is a double standard, but I would say that I think Roman Wilson is really good and showed that in the Senior Bowl and in big moments all year. Cornelius Johnson has made big plays in the past but who knows with him. I heard he was looking good too. Neither are Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers, however. Colston Loveland is excellent. I can't speak to the talent on Maye's team.
  4. It's almost like I haven't said this repeatedly in this thread very near in time to posts you and others have made. Frankly, it's a little weird unless you're really ignoring other posts and just responding to notifications. KDawg had a reason of not participating as much when I exchanged with him about it. It was well known to anyone following the team after the Penn State game that he hurt his leg (I think ankle but it may have been the whole lower leg) and could not drive through on throws. This wasn't even after the fact this was near the end of the season and was being reported (the severity of course, is always concealed as much as possible). That is why they ran the ball the entire second half vs. Penn State and why the reliance on the run game increased. I can't speak to the nature of health during CFP but he was moving better and throwing more normally.
  5. I partially disagree. I just cited where Tom was eventually listed at 225 but was 211 at the combine before his draft. Most QBs even looking at guys in the NFL out of uniform with t-shirts don't look that impressive (a few do but most are the least physically impressive of all skill position players on offense).
  6. Just took a look at Tom Brady's combine video. The official measurement was 6-4 and 211. And frankly not chiseled at all. His frame is wide but I can't really tell if it's wider than McCarthy's or not. He grew to be listed at 225 lbs. 211. That's close to what LSU reported Jayden's weight to be. Maybe all of us (including me) are being a little harsh. 10-15 lbs is realistic over the course of a young man's life who's physically fit and looking to add weight anyway.
  7. Agreed, I think it would be the height of stupidity to put JJ out there right away. Like if he absolutely blew the doors off in practice and preseason, maybe you ease him in but I don't think that would occur. Even as a McCarthy believer, I think the pattern established at Michigan was best. Have him take a few snaps as a change up, garbage time in his first real year. Then you start him. As for the quote from Kelly, that still seems limited to me. I don't know that JJ had any autonomy or not. I do know that Daniels was in the midst of a Heisman run and even the stuff where people are all of a sudden aware that McCarthy isn't Big Ben seems....odd to me. I just treat everything as agenda-driven narratives until proven otherwise. I'm not seeing where he called plays, but was responsible for parts of the alignment, audibling if the protection was overloaded or something like that. What I do know is that specific moments that McCarthy is talking about something he saw from film study or recognition that impressed me. His run in the title game that got them out of trouble was something even Sherrone Moore was at first upset about, then saw the gain, and heard the explanation and agreed with. His NFL level throw vs. OSU was also him recognizing that in a certain route or coverage depth the Buckeye didn't turn his head. So he knew he could make that throw and drop it in to Wilson. For BayouBrave who calls him a game manager---who does a game manager be among the best in the country in a run oriented offense at pushing a pass on 3rd down PAST the sticks? (and completing them)? Game managers check down and hope to get a first down.
  8. I'm uncertain on Caleb overall but I can understand. Apparently, it's not just 1 or 2 exams held by someone appointed by NFL doctors but multiple teams' doctors examine you, ask you the same questions, etc. I don't know the process so it would make more sense that teams consolidate groups of doctors and then keep it to 1-2 exams.
  9. Putting aside your earlier comment, they don't say it because JJ has wider shoulders and a frame that looks bigger than his weight. Jayden Daniels looks like a lollipop out there and has narrow frame. When JJ wears a helmet it looks like a football QB wearing a helmet. When Jayden wears one, he looks ridiculous. That or LSU's equipment manager bore a personal Nathan Shelley-like grudge against him.
  10. You may have avoided it but others who are asking questions already answered have been knee deep in this thing for awhile. No offense intended to them either just seems odd not to recall.
  11. Mccarthy injured his leg in the Penn State game and couldn't drive into his throws from the pocket. He could still do running and throws on the run but this was why playcalling changed. I've said this repeatedly in this thread. He only mostly healed after the big 10 title game. That said, I would not start him his first year he needs practice and mental reps his first year. He didn't start right away at Michigan and it was much better for him. Frankly a lot of guys benefit from sitting and getting garbage time reps for a year or more.
  12. LMAO Speaking of people getting timelines wrong. Bill wasn't head coach until 2000. Drew Bledsoe was a multiple time PB and comeback player of the year in his career and QB of a SB team before Brady or Bill. He played in an era where throwing for 4400 yards meant something. He was over 80 qbr multiple times and has 24 comebacks and 31 game winning drives. He was definitely not a great QB but maybe you shouldn't have dropped a bad sequence of your own before moving on to clowning someone else.
  13. Gardner's findings are not...really something I'd hang my hat on. While there are things besides g, Gardner's multiple intelligences are considered by most scholars to be lacking sufficient evidence or replicability.
  14. It looks bad but I'm seeing from niners fans that they understood the decision and in the regular season there were moments of tension where Shanahan visibly disagreed strongly with a defensive call. He also called a timeout in the SB because the Niners were in Cover 0.
  15. 5:48 had no sense that a guy was coming on his blind side. I get that everyone gets rocked at least once in their career from their blind side but this is the same game where he jumped in the middle of a crowded line and got smacked back down. I'll root for anyone but if you exclude his admittedly dynamic running, I don't get the Daniels appeal compared to Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. Yes, I like JJ but I don't expect anyone to take him #2. Like Daniels probably pops more as a "weapon" than Maye but as a QB? I don't know.
  16. Yes, I remember when Daniel Jones, in the Rose Bowl vs. Alabama, made a one handed grab, identified Dallas Turner, scuttled backwards, then threw a thirty yard pass while getting laid out by Dallas Turner. Daniel Jones also won two different HS titles (one state, one national) while being a five star recruit and then won a national title while making a ton of plays (while injured) to win games vs the top defenses in the country. What a goofy take dude. Hell, he could be worse as a pro than Daniel Jones but it's not from anything you're identifying with your Daniels-colored lenses.
  17. I was on this board saying we should just transplant the Michigan organizational culture and personnel (within reason) to this franchise. I think people became so enamored with Alabama but their run of dominance was largely fueled under different circumstances. Getting a bunch of Bama guys was always the mark of a franchise with no ability to look forward or ask the right questions (why Alabama? Sheer talent? organizational culture?) Michigan innovated after a few good but not great years and COVID. The defensive results are clear from MacDonald and Minter at both pro and NFL levels, and they were part of a culture change at Michigan. Michigan has the most guys invited to the combine and it's clear that Michigan recruited well in a way that wasn't just a Texas A&M "Get five stars" approach. They developed talent and build a cohesive team that played complementary football extremely well. Of course, I'm biased and I'm uncertain what the future holds at Michigan or in college football, but I can't think of better teams to try to model than the Ravens and Michigan. The Ravens may never win a SB with Lamar Jackson, I don't know, but I think they're easily the class of the league as an organization.
  18. During the national championship I told a friend that when the offense stalled they needed to get him on a few designed runs or scrambles to loosen him up. I think it was the run (the drive stalled but he got a big gain from deep in Michigan territory) that loosened him back up and he started connecting on passes again. I think McCarthy is something of a rhythm passer.
  19. I think he means when Haskins was brought on board he was extremely unlikely to have been a starter in Pittsburgh at any time.
  20. Didn't I post "Spatial Awareness" in this thread tonight. Daniels doesn't have it.
  21. Lol put down your drink, man. I said in the annals of football this team is mediocre. I didn't call them mediocre THIS year against the backdrop of awful NFC play. Who is the best QB in the NFC right now, by the way? Am I blanking...is Goff? Prescott? Jordan love already?
