  1. He's really not GOAT and the ridiculous attempts to put him there are obscene.
  2. Hey the person who talked about people hating Mahomes but liking Brady. That's me. I'll tell you why. Because look at this game. Look at the SB vs the Buccaneers. You have guys eager to dethrone Brady for various reasons just like Jordan (Nick Wright for one) but here we are and Mahomes is in another big game... and looks putrid. He just isn't on the same level and when a guy shows he's not equal to the greatest, you go from liking them to wanting them to go away. I don't dislike him as a person it's purely football and legacy.
  3. Kelce really letting Tay Tay fame cap his head up. He should be skewered for months after this game. Can't believe I have to root for the Niners to win a 28th SB.
  4. this is McCarthy as a freshman on 3rd and 25. That ball goes way across the field and drops right to receiver. You can't risk that throw after a scramble to the right unless you have the arm to do it.
  5. He was injured in lower leg since Penn State and could not fully drive on his throws until Alabama. Take this from someone who actually watched him since his backup reps in 2021, his arm is fine. His injury has been known and reported on. That's why they didn't pass in 2nd half of PSU and why his numbers dipped. That and he played 2 top 10 defenses and then Alabama in Rose Bowl. His throw to Wilson in Ohio game was excellent, an NFL type throw. Here he is in healthy portion of season. Note a deep out (in terms of ball to location, I didn't look at the route) early in the video. https://www.si.com/college/michigan/football/michigan-football-wolverines-jj-mccarthy-heisman-jim-harbaugh-big-ten-college-playoff-national-championship And 2022 on the road at Ohio State: 12 of 24 but several big plays, and a few darts. If I have a critique it's that he seems to get passes batted more than I'd like. All QBs get a few, even tall ones, but it may be something about release, I'd need to study it more. He climbs pocket really well, has some zip on short passes for first downs, and casually threw a ball (didn't see a wind up) from his 35 down to the 7 yard line from the pocket. Ended up a PI but he didn't seem to put his whole body into the throw.
  6. PSU is when he hurt his leg. That's why they did that. And Roman Wilson and Johnson are good players but they're not Ohio State elite level. We should get Roman if we get a chance, though.
  7. Consigliere just days after having a debate in a well-worn thread because he posts so much text (more than me!):
  8. One bit of apology here, I wrongly said the Skins picked Husak over Brady and while that is not technically true (he was selected after Brady) the Skins did end up selecting a late round QB (at some point in the draft) instead of selecting Brady anywhere between Rounds 3-5. My bad.
  9. You can see from the article I posted (God forbid, someone read long form anything) that the word coverage is mentioned over a dozen times, and he talks about coverages pre-snap and movement away (disguised) even and his response as a QB to what he saw. I'm not debating you here, I'm saying the article I posted really had some good takes on our new offensive coordinator's system and how prepared (or unprepared) an Air Raid-Kingsbury variant a QB in that system was. He looks like he should be doing very well produced tech and consumer product reviews on YouTube.
  10. Just did a search and found this article with a..well, a young Patrick Mahomes (speaking of Air Raid QBs) and Kliff Kingsbury. https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2703712-watching-tape-with-patrick-mahomes-the-myth-of-the-air-raid-quarterback Pretty good article and shows the football mind of Mahomes before the NFL.
  11. What's interesting to me is that a guy who could run but was huge in Daunte Culpepper had a precipitous decline after a major knee injury. And though he did have a great season or two, he was never the same because he was never really the pocket QB that other guys might have been to fall back on. Then we have a smaller guy, RG3, faster---still gets folded up like a cartoon. He had a good amount of overall weight but parts of him were slender but more than that, he was overly flexible in his knees (forget the term). Ironically, I would feel a lot better about him if he were a pocket passer like Stroud and just happened to be thin. You can work with that. But if there's one thing I've noticed other than an Elway, Cunningham, and a few others, mobile guys who get hurt or just get slow have a harder time adjusting if they weren't also good in the pocket (or became much better like Cunningham). So if Daniels gets hurt, there is no foundation for him to fall back on to be mainly a pocket guy. At least Penix (who has flaws) used to be very mobile but showed he could basically work mostly in the pocket as he accumulated serious injuries.
  12. I think sometimes you have to have people who've really watched these guys as COLLEGE observers. I mean, the NFL got Brady wrong but I didn't (no, I didn't anticipate GOAT status, but I thought he'd be a really clutch performer and a great pocket passer...he was). It's probably why I'm hesitant to really bash Williams, Maye or Daniels (I do it with Daniels because it amuses me to tussle with BB and ThatNFLChick) because I don't think I can really say. I can say there are aspects I don't like, or think are warning signs but I don't really know. But what I do know is that I have this sinking feeling that teams are going to regret passing on McCarthy. Think about it this way---QB scouting is a lot better than 1999-2000. No way Todd Husak should have gone above Brady, I don't care about 40 times, anyone who watched college should have known this (Skins picked Todd btw lol). This means your future "Brady" gets drafted in the first 2 rounds instead of round 6 or 7 (Brock Purdy is going to make even this look wrong maybe). That said, Mahomes didn't really win in college and he's great (but also paired with a great offensive coach and mentor). So I'm not discounting the other guys entirely, I am worried about guys who don't perform well against good teams even when their team is even or at least capable of offensive output.
  13. There are also articles saying they offered MacDonald while he was about to, or was headed to Seattle. If the last several years don't teach you anything about how narratives are molded, distributed, reshaped to respond to changing conditions, etc. I don't know. You are aware of the articles about how Ben Johnson backed off and that the Commanders were on their way to interview with him (as in they were interested)?
  14. Yeah, I'm probably less pessimistic than you are (just because I don't care that much, I have small children, I care about them a lot) but I agree. It's amazing that from the beginning, I said go get MacDonald as long as no one was gainsaying his capabilities because of the impact he had on the Michigan program, that he had a hand in reshaping that organization and he had a great defense this year and it was how he (and Minter) went about disguising coverages, stopping high powered offenses that made me think he had to be the one to pick (over Ben Johnson.) So it seems clear that Peters and Co. went about this deliberately but that lack of quick-decision making to take a gamble on a potentially great hire, gets them a good retread hire. You all are going to hate to hear this, but that sort of slow movement and inability to recognize talent without having to first "interview" it, reminds me of Snyder's regime. They had multiple insiders (and analysts) signing Kyle and McVay's team. I think LeFleur and McDaniel were still a bit too young in their careers at the time, but Kyle and Sean McVay? I think I openly called for us to fire Gruden and hire McVay if we were moving on. So this is now twice when Ghost would have been the one making the better decision than the team (whoever it is). I'm not even the gutsiest person in the world but these were easy decisions for me. If I could see it from a distance (and with relative disconnect related to recent years), how the hell could this organization not? Even if you think MacDonald wasn't the most charismatic, you let him go and get (or help him) the assistant HC-Offense and firebrand position coaches.
  15. You know who's even younger than that?! hehe Isn't there someone you're forgetting?
  16. I remember Kliff as a hell of a QB at Texas Tech. I didn't remember him winning the Sammy Baugh award but good for him.
  17. So basically everyone is sticking up for their almae matres or favorite teams' QB? Are you still mad about my post talking about the top of Jayden's head, and his name? JJ now that's a solid name. Caleb too. Jalen can work since it's descended from a Michigan Man (what an impact on society Jalen's mom made.) But Jayden will disappoint like Jaden Smith's acting career. How about them apples?
  18. Schefter reporting that Commanders reached out to Mike MacDonald (who I told you all they should have hired and not even wasted time on Ben Johnson) while he was on his flight to Seattle to see if he was still interested. Of all the words put to paper by pen...something something, Ghost was right again.
  19. Only a 5 star QB recruited by Ohio State, who won a state title in Illinois, a national HS title with IMG, named Florida Player of the Year (no small feat for anyone to be named player of the year in that state), who went on to lose one game as a starter in college, win a national title, all while nursing a bum ankle (it's a major reason they ran the ball the second half vs Penn State) the last several games of the season and making every single pass or play that he had to make while doing it. And has no physical deficiencies in his toolkit, although he'll need to get to 215-220 before too long. Yes, I get that they ran a lot but you are also supposed to be looking at mental makeup. He isn't some game manager who won a starting job so the previous comparison to Stetson Bennett is insulting.
  20. Thank you ThatNFLChick. That has been posted before and I've even pointed out how so many of the advanced stats do show some good things about my guy, McCarthy. Like every time I see a new chart or table, most or all of the more revealing stats seem to favor at least having a positive impression of McCarthy. I also think he's the anti-Williams from a teammate and leadership perspective (and that's not me assuming Caleb is a bad guy, just from the observable things that he doesn't raise red flags.) Daniels has some good numbers too, but they seem significantly smaller than other QBs, a bit smaller than McCarthy and I would have thought he'd have a lot more.
  21. We're so old (and so is Pittman4Two) that the player who he was named after has a veteran son in the NFL.
