  1. I really hope Reaves isn’t on the outside looking in. I don’t think he will be. I think he has actual long term upside to be our future starting FS next to Curl at SS. Guys like Everett and Apke are a dime a dozen.
  2. I do wonder if we see a move made sooner rather than later at safety given the current logjam there. We obviously didn’t wait around at tackle. Maybe it’s different in than none of the likely cut candidates count that much against the cap.
  3. I have zero interest in bringing Scherff back to be honest. There’s just no chance paying a 30 year old guard 18 mil+ per year ends up being worth it.
  4. 2019 wasn’t *that* long ago but yeah like I said I’m not sure I’d bet on him to regain that form either. Still probably more likely than Bates becoming that guy as a rookie though.
  5. I don’t think Bates has the downfield receiving profile of an Ertz-type TE. He probably profiles as an ideal TE2 who can be a good blocker while also helping some as a receiver here and there. But if something were to happen to Thomas we’d lose the dimension of our offense that he provides. Not saying Ertz is the answer necessarily either, because who knows what he actually has left. But it would be nice to have a guy with a little more explosiveness downfield as a second or third option. Maybe that’s Reyes but he’s obviously got a long ways to go. If another experienced receiving TE becomes available for cheap, it’s at least worth kicking the tires, I think.
  6. Haha yeah but not by much. Current 51st player is just over 850k.
  7. Reported McCain contract is $1.475M. Basically free.
  8. Honestly if it drives his price down... probably still worth the risk. I can’t imagine he never plays again. Not sure how credible this report is but I’d be glad to know we haven’t ruled him out completely.
  9. I know. And I’m sure the team knows that too. That’s why edited my post to add that I don’t really see any way they didn’t expect this to leak, which implies to me they weren’t worried about hurting their leverage because they don’t think he has much trade value anyway.
  10. Yeah I agree with this take. Determining that Scherff is worth 18 mil but Moses isn’t worth 9.6 mil (<$8M after dead cap) is interesting to say the least.
  11. If this wasn’t meant to leak then we ****ed up majorly. Given how tight lipped the organization has been since Rivera has been here I don’t believe that’s likely. Edited to added you don’t “give someone permission to seek a trade” and not expect it will get out.
  12. Yep, totally get it and you’re right. “Announced” was the wrong choice of words. But I guess what I was getting at is this is basically admitting we aren’t expecting to get much for him in a trade and just need him gone. So that means it isn’t about flipping a guy to get some value for him. It’s either purely financial (which I suppose I could see the logic of, but it’s a risk), or it’s because Morgan is forcing his way out, which would suck.
  13. Chris Miller brings us up to our official 90 man roster (Bada is 91 but allowed via the IPP). But it seems like we can write Moses out of our roster projections... probably means we do only keep 9 OLs given the versatility of some of our backups. Unless a guy like Geron Christian really impresses.
  14. Maybe the idea is to clear his cap hit this year so we can roll more cap space into next year for extensions (and maybe flexibility for a QB trade if something comes available?) Because I don’t see any other reason to need the cap space THIS year. Unless he forced his way out... but it’s odd that there wasn’t any smoke about that if that’s the case.
  15. This is interesting because I feel like other beat guys haven’t been this adamant about Charles having no future at tackle. I also haven’t heard Keim make this point enough to act like it’s a ridiculous question. He’s a little unnecessarily terse on Twitter in my opinion. The thing that really bothers me about this is when you make this kind of announcement you basically lose all leverage. We can’t bring him back now so why would anyone give us anything for him? He should be more valuable than this.
  16. Yeah that’s what I’m leaning toward also. Maybe Moses being unhappy with the long term security of his contract was already a known issue and the Leno signing was a way of replacing him in the short term so we could move on now and find a longer term replacement next offseason. Just sucks to lose a good player who was under contract for 2 more years at an affordable rate. Gonna be potentially scrambling on the OL again next year with Scherff, Leno and Lucas all on expiring contracts.
  17. We save a lot by trading him... but we also aren’t paying him that much relative to his performance. And I doubt we’ll get much for him in a trade. So unless we need that cap space right now for some reason I just don’t see the benefit of doing this. Unless he basically demanded an extension or else a trade. I guess we’ll see. Something tells me the reasoning will become clearer before too long.
  18. Having 10 OL on the 53-man roster doesn’t mean they are all going to get snaps. You would hope they don’t have to because that’s means your starters are playing well and staying healthy. But most teams carry at least 9... bumping that up to 10 when you have the depth and 1 more game to play doesn’t seem like a crazy idea.
  19. This is a fair point and I’m not necessarily suggesting Gibson get every short yardage carry or significantly more overall work than he had last year. But for critical short yardage situations, I’d prefer him on the field to Peyton Barber. And it would be nice not to HAVE to carry a RB specifically for short yardage, if said RB doesn’t provide much value otherwise. Maybe someone like Jaret Patterson gives you higher upside and a more well rounded skill set.
  20. This is an anecdotal observation on my part, but it certainly feels like he was used more in short yardage and goal line situations as the year went on. That stat would indicate he is very viable in those situations and he certainly has the size for it. Hopefully he doesn't have to come off the field in those situations this year for a guy like Peyton Barber, who gives you so much less explosive ability and not much value in any other aspect of the game... so would be nice not to have to tie up a roster spot in a player like that. Also, Gibson needs all the goal line work he can get to pad his stats for a Pro Bowl appearance.
