I was at the game but I had like 7 beers so I slep through the first two periods lol

Was shocked to see it 3-3, remember very little

    Do not drink

I don't think it was ever 3-3 so you probably don't remember anything.

I'm firmly in the camp that they could've retooled over the last few years and still remained competitive but they allowed their emotions to dictate too many moves. The Caps went all in on getting older despite the results in the playoffs after the Cup. When was the last time the Caps didn't have a legitimate goalie prospect? They certainly do not at the moment.

Anyway, this team is headed for a bottom 5 finish in the league. It's likely to be a very painful two seasons as far as on ice play.

If not for the one 9-1-1 stretch early in this season, Caps would be on track for a top-5 pick right now. Currently 10th, with room to fall to maybe 6th. Desperately need top-10 or higher draft talent.

I understand your position on Mantha, but I thought he played better than he was given credit for before this season.  Lavs dumped him in the dog house and put him in poor position to perform, but I thought he still looked pretty good even when the numbers on the scoresheet weren't there.

I guess the main question would be, what's the point of bringing him back? He will be 30 to start next season and, to me, the Caps need to get young and not worry about winning at all next season.

I don't agree with Firesale, but certainly open to offers on a lot of players.  I would consider a few vets untouchable; mostly Ovechkin and Oshie.  Guys like Strome, Wilson, McMike, Protas, and Sandin have to be considered as part of our future core, and thus not on the block.  I think Milano and Bear should probably be retained, too.

I like Mantha; I think Lavs did him dirty, and he's a bright spot in the darkness that is our scoring this season.  It's also a contract year, though, so if we got a decent offer for him, we could trade him and talk to him about returning in free agency.

Rumor-mill has it that Nic Dowd is a highly-coveted deadline acquisition, and could command as high as a 1st round pick given how effective he is while making only $1.3 mil with another year on his contract.  I think we'd have to take an offer like that.

Everyone not named Ovechkin and Wilson should be available for the right offer. Please do not bring Mantha back. Never trust a player that hasn't produced in a while then suddenly has a good season in a contract year.

As @capcrunch98 rightly points out, there aren't many with trade value so there really won't be a fire sale. I wonder what they'd be able to get for Carlson.

I like your insight on this thread and it's not often I disagree with you. But I've got a better chance of having a 3-way with Taylor Swift and Margot Robbie than GMBM does of convincing anyone to give up a 1st rounder for Nic Dowd.

He's just reporting what the NHL trade rumors and reporters have been saying the last few days so there is an outside chance of that given the market.

I don't disagree with the Beal contract, but what in the draft record was really horrible?  Picking outside of the Top 5 consistently is not good for getting NBA talent.

Johnny Davis was a horrible pick -- but even he was picked at 10.  Everyone else has been meh, but not really horrible.

I was reading what the expected value of draft picks was.  Pretty much pick order is a good predictor of future value with 1 through 5 having really good value, and falling off a bit going through it. I think Kispert, Rui and Deni have pretty good value for what they are.  They could just be average.  Don't look at the redraft...

Haliburton aside, look at some of the picks immediately after the Wiz picks. Guys that are strong two way players or emerging stars or in some cases already stars. The Wiz never hit on these picks. When you are a bad team, meh picks don't help move the needle at all.

Rui wasn't very good here. Had a few nice moments and some flashes but inconsistent and missed a lot of time. Deni is okay and has gotten better this season, but doesn't have a high ceiling despite what Deni-stans think. (the most annoying fanbase in Wiz history) Corey is a one dimensional player, which isn't a recipe for a contending team let alone when a team is bad and needs starting caliber players. If he isn't scoring, he's not contributing. Johnny Davis, enough said cause I don't want to pile on.

Ultimately, these draft picks didn't improve the team in any meaningful way, hence the terrible draft record.

The problem with the rule is for certain top players it incentivizes them to rush back from injury. Haliburton rushing back to play injured cause he might miss out on 40 mill and Embiid possibly thinking about the MVP.

Tying supermax eligibility to all-NBA is a different issue but if a player is rushing back because they want to be MVP vs winning a chip, that's on them.

Not in the playoffs. All of Jimmy G's stats come from the 49ers with Shanahan. Here's how they've done prior to tonight:

    image.png.258d78a1c4c98dfbffd2fef7def8887f.png

Then Purdy put up a 20/31(64.5%) for 267 yards, 1 TD, 1 Int, 2 sacks (9 yards), 5 rushes for 48 yards. (These stats aren't in the above totals yet)

Jimmy G may have been fine in the regular season. But he's averaging worse stats so far in his post-season games than Purdy. There's a clear difference showing Purdy is simply a better QB.

Those numbers don't reflect how terrible Purdy was against GB. He was pretty lucky not to have multiple INTs. I think CM helps quite a bit as well.

See I disagree, he and maye are a lot alike in my opinion, maye may have a slightly bigger arm, but Purdy gets the ball out quick and optimizes the playmakers open space by doing so. They are similar in size and both run well. If maye could be Purdy, then I'm all for maye. All Purdy has done is won since he's been in the league.

Jimmy G looked really good as a QB with Shanny as well. Not that he isn't good, but it's the system. They are just fortunate it wasn't raining this game.

  10. They better ask Ben Johnson what he would do in those obvious field goal kicking situations. Also, he called a good game but that running play with a minute left was a real headscratcher and I'm not a fan of trick plays when the offense it rolling.

Having said that, can't go wrong with him or Ravens DC.
