carex
it seems to me if teams really wanted to take advantage of matchups teams would try to take something that's virtually impossible to match up with. In a spread offense teams generally go with a RB that's a small speedy pass catcher type. Why not put a power guy in there? Imagine having to go with six DBs and having it impossible to go with extra men in the box?
Warhead36
Spread offense means your WRs are blocking and most WR are bad blockers. This means you'll see those DBs crashing into the backfield(they won't respect a power back as a pass catching option, most of them can't). Even a big bruising back will be taken down in the backfield easily by a DB when he can barely get going past the line of scrimmage. Also you're only running 5 OL vs. what will likely be 4 DL and 1 LB(assuming 5 DBs for the 5 WRs). You'd need perfect man on man blocking to create any sort of hole for a big brusing style back to get through, as opposed to a shifty smaller back who can squeeze through and possibly make the LB miss. SkinsFTW
Isn't that what the Pats did for a while with Gronk and Hernandez a few years ago? For a while both their running game and those TEs were unstoppable, then Hernandez lost his mind. Anyway just about everything Belichick does seems to work. It's their job. It's not like high school, or college. There aren't many Deion's out there. Plus, most teams now have backers who can run like corners and play downhill like a linebacker. Would be fun to watch however
