1990 Season:

Jim's peers said all that needed to be said about the kind of year he had in 1990 when they named him the top vote getter at tackle in the Pro Bowl, and as the NFC's Offensive Lineman of the Year.  "It would be hard to have had a better year than Jim had last season," said offensive line coach Jim Hanifan.  "He's one of the top two offensive linemen in the league.  He's got a tenacity and determination that wants him to be the best player he can possibly be.  And he's going to get better."  That might be hard to believe, especially after the kind of year Jim had last season.  In the dominating week 12 win over Miami, Jim was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week (only the second offensive lineman in six years to win the award) as the Redskin offensive line paved the way for 222 yards on the ground against the league's top rushing defense.  And when facing the league's best Jim was at his best.  He stopped Chicago's Richard Dent, New Orleans' Pat Swilling and Buffalo's Bruce Smith without a sack.  Besides his outstanding play, Jim's dependability to line up week-in and week-out also was a plus.  Along with Jeff Bostic, he was the only lineman to start every game.  "The key factor with Jim now is to continue to demand of himself even better play," said Hanifan.  "He is the type of player that will do that.
