Sounds like it's time for the general to get a visit from one of those of those SF units whose existence the U.S. government won't acknowledge.

And it would be criminal of us to continue any sort of financial aid to Pakistan right now, unless we can (on a first-hand basis) verify that any assistance is going directly to the people.

Sad, sad situation.

It is a sad situation and once again GWB has been proven to support the wrong guy (Putin, Chalabi, etc). I kept hearing how Musharraf was the only option in Pakistan, that he is honest and doing everything he can to fight extremists and that Bhutto, despite the fact that she would probably win a true Presidential election, was corrupt and evil despite her hard line stance against radical Islam. It seems Musharraf is cracking down harder on the Democratic elements than he ever did on Al Qaida.

It's funny because most Republicans here said how foolish Obama was to say he would go after Al Qaida in Pakistan if Musharraf did not. And now Musharraf looks like a smooth talking two-faced con man militant dictator. And sure enough the Bush administration has lived up to their well-deserved reputation as incompetent idiots with a complete lack of judgement.

It's not so easy to say... "Perv bad, democracy good". Maybe if we let them elect who they want more people (internally) will see how much worse things get. So the question is, is it "democracy for all" regardless of who gets elected, or do we let them elect bad guys? Do you think the "bad guys" will stablize or de-stablize the country?

There is no right answer...
