IRVING - The silence was deafening.

Cowboy fans, who interrupted their holiday celebrations on Monday with a trip to Texas Stadium, couldn't believe what they were seeing.

Wasn't Tony Romo sits to pee destiny’s quarterback?

Wasn't this the game the Cowboys would clinch their first NFC East title since the days of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin?

With this being the first Cowboys team made to Bill Parcells' exact specifications, wasn't all of this pre-ordained?

Well, somebody forgot to tell the Philadelphia Eagles and quarterback Jeff Garcia, who is the quarterback sensation of the moment.

Left for dead when Donovan McNabb went out five weeks ago, the Eagles capped their fourth straight victory with a 23-7 triumph over the Cowboys on Christmas Day.

"We were non-competitive tonight," Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said. "Inexperienced in this kind of game hurt us."

Garcia passed for 238 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 44 yards. Running back Brian Westbrook added 111 yards as the Eagles scored on four of their first five drives to take a 16-7 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Eagles put the game away with an 80-yard, clock-eating touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, sending the stunned crowd of 62,839 to the exit.

The Eagles (9-6) can clinch the NFC East with a victory against the Atlanta Falcons in the season finale.

The Cowboys (9-6) can still win the division title with an Eagles loss and a victory next week against the lowly Detroit Lions.

As of now, a Cowboys team that was hoping to win the division and stay in contention for the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoffs might have to settle for a wild-card playoff game on the road.

"I kind of felt like we beat ourselves in some ways," Romo sits to pee said. "This team has a lot of heart. We've come back before. We have a big game next week. We'll find out how good we are when we get into the tournament."

The Cowboys were let down on Monday by the defense, which allowed the Eagles convert seven of their first 10 third downs.

But the offense, which had been one of the league's best since Romo sits to pee took over in October, sputtered throughout the day.

Romo sits to pee was intercepted twice and passed for 142 yards yards. It was the first time all season Romo sits to pee didn’t pass for at least 200 yards.

It was also the first time the Cowboys didn't score at least 17 points in a game.

"We never gave ourselves a spark to react to," Parcells said.
