Brian Mitchell's Comments

I have lost all my respect for Brian Mitchell. After having been with the team for 10 years you would think that the reality of what it means to be a pro football player had caught up with him.

Not Mitchell though. He's making this a personal and is burning all bridges. Mitchell bled burgundy and gold, but you know what f that stupid punk.

Mitchell needs to grow up. He is acting like a child. Football is a business, first and foremost. I could care less about B Mitchell anymore. He is now an Eagle and I hate the f*ing Iggles. I hope Mitchell gets a chance to play some RB against the Skins so Trotter can stick him.

B. Mitch is just being what he always has been...a bigmouth. He himself even admits that his mouth and attitude are what have kept him out of the pro bowl on many occasions. So, given the circumstances of his leaving the team, of course he's going to do what he's always done - mouth off. I/we used to love it when he'd do it to other teams over the years, but now that it's directed at us we're getting our panties all in a bunch.

I never expected any reaction from him other than what he's given (unless he retired while playing for us). Mostly, I just get a bit of a chuckle out of it and move on.

Fact is, dude's career has been a heck of a good one and nobody can take that from him. Has he been a game changer or difference maker ? Not really, just a d@mn good returner/special teamer/third down back. Did his loss break our backs or make the ea-girls a championship team ? Nope. So, I see no reason to make any of it a big deal.

Now, if you want to see a class guy who got screwed by the Skins, take a look at Doug Williams.

Brian Mitchell - Return Specialist, Running Back, Slot back and emergency QB - very, very good in the day and adequate even now.

However, he is misguiding his anger and shows his TRUE business sense. What he doesn't know is, he could have stayed with the Skins, rode the pine while Deion and Thrash got reps, but the team would have traded him later, if they wanted to. That to me was more degrading.

Yes I was also angry when the Skins wouldn't even do a vet minimum contract for B'Mitch. However, the root of the problem was the owner's decision that he'll have to live with. That he in fact DID take Sanders, thinking Sanders would heal in time to take both the starting corner spot and handle punts, with ease.

Backfired and you can believe, Snyder is also sorry for that fiasco, but it's BUSINESS.

Marco Coleman's loss, hurts me equally the same, but being the MAN he is and sucking up his pride, said it all - IT"s A BUSINESS!

B'Mitch is being sentimental, yet synical, knowing full well that no player entering the HOF will have a team deleted from their plaque.

It is by far the most dumbest statement I've ever heard him make and it does hurt the fans of his, as well as him. This statement will come back to him one day, as his teachings tell him.

I agree with many here, but like Bulldog said, one man I would have expected to low rate a team on his cutting would be Marcus Allen or Art Monk when they were let go.

The same thing that made me love him as a player makes me detest his statements - he's all emotion and no brains. Do you realize that he shows no more maturity now than he did ten years ago as a rookie? He's got great talent, especially on special teams, and he's got great fire on the field. But he doesn't have a clue about the business side of football, and his comments about the Redskins for the last two years have reeked of immaturity. Oh well, I have better things to worry about.

I'm disappointed that someone I used to like still carries such a strong amount of anger over the situation. He belittles the honor of being named one of the greatest 70 Skins of all time with an attitude like that. I wouldn't mind if they yanked his name off the list and replaced it with whoever was #71.

If he hates us that much - screw him!

I liked Brian as much as the next guy, but I think he is a big "Dummy".

How much has he made above what we would have paid him if he had stayed here? If he retired with us he would have a better chance to make some nice money with endorsements after his playin career. Does anyone really think the Philly media, sponsors and fans will support him 20 years from now? Will he make any money from the Philly area when his career is over? I think he made the wrong choice.

Mitchell is a loud-mouth. Always has been. It used to REALLY get on my nerves that he couldn't run a single punt or kickoff back without getting up and talking sh!t to one or more of the opponents ... often as they were merely walking away from the pile. He was talented, but a jerk.

That being said, I don't let his comments bother me one bit. I just don't pay it any attention. I still appreciate what he did when he played here, but he doesn't play here anymore. He's one of the enemy now so he may as well talk like one. Who cares?

His anger is at Mr. Snyder and not the Washington Redskins.

I can't blame him, he gave it all for 10 seasons, staying with a crapy Norv Truner Team when he could have gone to a condender. Then Mr. Snyder cuts him for so called "salary cap" (in reality to make room for Deion :puke: ) reasons after Mitch said he would stay with the Skins for the league minimum because he wanted to finish his career as a Redskin. How many athletes now a days would say that. It would be mad too.

Remember it took a while for Tom Landry to go back to Big D to be honored.

Wow. I'm surprised to see so many harsh remarks towards B Mitchell, I always thought we was one of the Redskins biggest team leaders. Anyhow, here is an article on him being cut:

Ashburn, VA--

As the Washington Redskins are reaching for the Super Bowl, they are also reaching out and sending players packing that really have meant a lot to the franchise.

Yesterday, the Redskins decided to send 10 year veteran Brian Mitchell packing. In doing so the Redskins loose a leader on and off the field. Our staff at ECA magazine found Mitchell to be one of the most approachable Redskins player on the team and he was always walking around with a bright smile.

Mitchell not only was the guy the Redskins knew would make things happen on special teams, but in the locker room as well. He was always the player who had time to joke and have fun. One time of many that comes to mind is back in 1997, Mitchell and former Redskins running back Terry Allen, decided to have a little fun with the rookies and the pie served for lunch. Both players were always joking and nothing was left unturned behind the revolving locker room doors.

On the field, all Redskins fans know what Mitchell did to help the Redskins. He set 14 Redskins records as a running back and most notably he helped the Redskins almost defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a 100-yard run in the Divisional Championship game this past January.

Along with the release of Mitchell went another veteran, Larry Bowie, who spent most of the past two seasons on injured reserve. Bowie had also been ruled out of the picture with the addition of Larry Centers and Adrian Murrell this past off season.

The Release of Mitchell surprised some and also ended months of speculation as to whether Mitchell would return for the 2000-2001 season. It also made it clear that the Redskins would try to bring Deion Sanders to Washington once he becomes a free-agent later this month.

No one really wanted to get rid of Mitchell at the time, but I think everyone was under the impression that we were close to fielding a contending team and with Mitchell set to make 7 figures as primarily a special teams player (albeit a valuable one) his loss was understandable to alot of us. Mitchell took it personally and got into a p!ssing match with Snyder and his continued comments have alienated many Skins fans since.

The last sentence of that article is the most painful to me. Cutting Mitchell may have been necessary at the time, but paying through the nose to a guy like Deion for one season of decent, but not spectacular, play at CB was a travesty. I always despised that guy and it hurt to see him wearing the burgundy and gold.
