bulldog
going down the rosters of the two teams, it would appear that both the Skins and Eagles may be looking for fill-ins at some of the same spots after the cuts on or around June 1: WR. The Skins and Eagles have young WR's. A veteran such as McCardell or Jackson or Freeman could make a big difference in the passing game and in mentoring the younger players. DT. The Skins have been in search of a run-stopping DT for 5 years. With the loss of Trotter, the uncertainties surrounding Gardner's transition to MLB, and their own undersized DT's the Eagles could be looking to cherry pick for a Sam Adams or other veteran for 2002 as well. OL. Both the Skins and Eagles have fine tackles on the outside but needs inside at guard/center. Both teams also lack veteran depth. The Skins have been far more active in free agency so far and have less money to spend. The Eagles had fewer holes to fill to begin with in March. It will be interesting to see if the two teams end up negotiating against each other for specific players down the road.
NavyDave
The skins have a reputation of spending the money needed to get the player they covet while philly is still known as skinflints. I can see a McCardell or Westy playing in philly and us offsetting that by signing a DT like Sammie to force philly to throw the ball
@DCGoldPants
If Westbroken were smart, he'd sign in the AFC somewhere to stay the hell away from the Skins. Don't even face Champ and deal with the shutdown.
cowboykilla
If he was smart, he'd sign with the skins for the vet min. and make us a super bowl champion and get his 1,000 yards again.
bulldog
it is interesting to note that the Chiefs who just lost Minnis and won' t be bringing back Alexander have shown no interest in Westbrook at all. Dick Vermeil said nice things about Tony Banks and Westbrook last season but when he has the chance to add these players to his team for reasonable dollars it is interesting to see that he isn't putting his wallet where his mouth is It's a quality move for the REDSKINS to have Banks and Westbrook but not for the Chiefs, eh Dick? Be careful you don't trip over that tongue now.
cowboykilla
Dick Vermeil is an a$$hole just like Marty Schottenheimer. They are both on my hit list. Vermeil is responsible for our team sucking last year in addition to the Schottenheimers (minus Kurt) and Raye. After that first home game he ragged on all our players saying they were cry babies and just created more separation between Marty and the rest of the team. He's a *******o. bulldog
Vermeil was on the verge of being fired in St. Louis before the Rams jumped up and went 13-3 in 1999. It will be interesting to see if he can pull off the trick a second time in Kansas City. He isn't investing in the future at age 65, that's for sure. He gave up a #1 pick for Trent Green, 32, who didn't have a good year in 2001. Then he pays megabucks for Johnnie Morton, a good receiver no doubt, but also 31 years old. Is Vermeil serious in thinking the Chiefs are ready for a run this year? I just don' t see it. If this team falls flat in 2002, look for Vermeil to exit in 2003. PennState11
Im sorry but why do the "experts" think Philly is gonna have a good year. The have yet to sign a big time free agent, other than blain bishop. They lost a pro bowl middle linebacker:laugh: and in the draft only strengthend their secondary. Offensivly their best reciever is still James Thrash? Buckhalter is out. Theyre still relying a lot on McNabb
DCEagle
The Eagles have no interest in Westbrook but may have some interest in Ki-Jana... Our main concern is MLB and DT... Sam Adams has priced himself out of our market and maybe yours... Time will tell... but he would be the only player I would see both teams inquiring about. BTW: There's a rumor thread in www.700level.com (Eagle Nosebleeds) about Davis coming to Philly... I don't where it came from and think it's idiotic but it's being thrown around at the site. bulldog
well, most teams in the NFL are dogmeat if their starting quarterback goes down. And that is especially true for teams with elite qb's. luckily (for this discussion anyway) the Redskins don't have an elite quarterback, so if Matthews or Wuerffel goes down I think Spurrier can plug Rosenfels or Ramsey in and look better doing it than Marty did last year with Jeff George and Tony Banks
Burgold
Don't think the skins and eagles are in the running for the same players, at least not for the players available today. Reason being, the eagles could get them now. We're up against the salary wall, but Phil. has a ton o' room. The fact that they do nothing now means that they are either satisfied or cheap. June 1st will not magically make everyone's players go dramatically down. Sometimes it's the reverse. The teams cut players so that they can afford to play the pick up game. It's like a going out of business sale, June 1st is. The going out of business sale begins and potential buyers storm the store, buying everything because there are large placcards announcing everything is 20% off. The fact that everything was previously marked up to max retail, doesn't impact some. Sure, it's almost like getting a deal, but you can get those prices or haggle your way to something close at other places. If you really want the deep discount, you need to go to the store much later. Of course, most of the good stuff has usually been picked over, but that's when you can get bargains. Marquee names and players aren't going to suddenly blink on June 1st and decide to go minimum wage with incentives. At least, I don't think so. Brave
"Im sorry but why do the "experts" think Philly is gonna have a good year?"- PennState11 Philly dealt with a lot of those issues (relying on McNabb, Thrash being top WR, RB by committee) last season and made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game. The loss of Trotter alone shouldn't bring them all the way back to the middle of the pack. The loss of Trotter plus a few more key injuries might, however. Still, if they stay relatively healthy from here on they still should be the early favorite to repeat as East Champs. I can envision them being less successful than last year but still more successful than anyone else in the East. That would still be a good year for them, though.
