Deion will soon be cut

By the Reds that is, I have been following the Reds (and Deion of course) and it looks as if the experiment has run its course and management have given up on Deion and will release him, maybe as early as Tuesday...So my question is where do the Redskins go from here? In hearing the interview with Kornheiser last week I thought that Deion was being fair in that he didnt want to answer football questions since he was struggling so much in baseball and he did state that if he did play football it would be for the Skins...Now it will either get really interesting or everyone kisses and makes up like nothing ever happened!

I think Deion knows that if he's cut and wants to play football and not retire that he'll be here next year and Marty will work him like a dog all summer. I think Deion will suck it up finally knowing that he lost this round and if he wants to play football it's on Washingtons terms.

True enough, knowing Deion I think it's highly unlikely that he will retire from football and be out of sports all together, hey he might be tired but I don't think he's ready to let that spotlight go down just yet!

The thing that REALLY bothers me about Deion coming back to football is how the fans react to him at FedEx Field.

I was a supporter of signing Deion before the season started... then I went to the games, and hearing the whole stadium boo his a$$ really sucked. It was an automatic boost for the opponents.

Add that to his solid but overpaid, unspectacular play, his MeMe attitude, his antipathy towards Marty, Mr. Snyder, and the new coaches.... And I'd much prefer him to be anywhere else.

Especially now....Smoot and Harrison need to get some playing time.

Primetime21,

No offense man, but how in God's name can you idolize Dieon Sanders? He is the most self centered athlete that I have ever seen. He now realizes he stuck his foot in his mouth with his lame comments on the Skins and head coach Marty Schottonheimer. "I'll laugh and click my heals three times when they release me". What a pathetic attitude towards a team that gave you one of the biggest(and stupidest)free agent contracts in history. You would think that one would at least want to earn some of that money, but not slimetime. He would just as soon take the Skins money and walk away laughing. He'll never play a down for Marty. I can't see him keeping such a cancer on this team. Just so he doesen't walk away with any free money. After that I could care less what happens to the piece of sh*t.

Blade, what you said is exactly why Deion is not so quick to come back to the Redskins because the fans were booing him last year before he even got on the field! Let's not forget that these are the same fans that booed Mr. Snyder and Deion made it clear that he didnt like that very much...

I'd say that the only issue remaining between Deion and Marty right now is what percentage of the bonus Deion would return. Marty is probably starting from getting back the last 5 years, and Deion is probably starting from giving up only 1 or two years.

They'll likely meet in the middle, and Deion will get to keep half.

I prefer to keep him. You can never have to many good corners even slimetime and it looks like he is finally healed.

His smack talk hasn t been that bad if we can accept Marty after his slamming of The Danny we should be able to accept slimetime. Most of the fans in the stadium booing Danny weren't true skinsfans those were the dot com,Zima sipping group that arent the typical knowledgeable skinfanatics you see here

Simple football logic tells you a team doesn't give a 32 year old cornerback with a history of foot/toe problems an $8 million signing bonus. That is the reason most Redskins fans booed originally.

Yes, if the Skins had gone on to win the Super Bowl the move would have provoked less criticism ultimately, although the issue of having to count his huge bonus after whatever year he retires would still be out there as a future headache.

Redskins fans know a good player when they see one. Darrell Green gets the red carpet treatment from fans because he has sweated and achieved something HERE. Bruce Smith gets the same respect because he carries himself as a true professional.

After years of taunting Redskins fans on the field as a Cowboy, Deion had to be brain dead to expect instant love and acceptance.

That is EARNED by getting out on the field and SHOWING it is deserved.

Deion showed last year he can still play in the NFL, but he is no longer deserving of the spotlight and the media attention and his real fear is he will become irrelevant.

Deion saying the position ought to be renamed "deion" only appeared stupid and arrogant after it was clear that Champ Bailey, not Deion, was the best cornerback on the Redskins.

How many other players would say such a stupid thing?

That kind of talk in the preseason only exaggerated people's expectations of what Sanders was going to deliver and then when he failed to be Superman, he blamed US the fans for not appreciating him.

Well, to my way of thinking it is best to accomplish the deed and THEN gloat over it.

Deion and the Redskins failed to accomplish anything last year except provide a soap opera for the rest of the NFL to laugh at.

That is not going to get you loved by anyone paying the highest ticket prices in the NFL to attend a game.

I think Terry has it right. The issue before us is not so much whether Deion will play here or won't play here. It's an issue of how much money we can get back from Deion. If the answer is zero, he'll be playing here. If Deion wants out and forfeits some cash, he'll be out. This is a dollars and cents issue and not a performance issue.

I think we should keep Deion as we had intended to do when we signed him. Two years from him then we can let him go as we had expected to do all along. The Redskins are doing nicely to add depth and Deion is still a very good player at a skill position. I would emotionally like him to be cut, but, that's just because he's a jerk smile.gif.
