If this year's Lakers played Jordan's Bulls in their prime, what would be the result ?

[ by Mick on June 03, 2001.]

[ January 25, 2002: Message edited by: Die Hard ]

No fair Mick, you have to pick a specific Bulls team. They were pretty different, if you compare the Rodman/Kukoc 72-10 team to the earlier juggernauts. In any event, in a big shocker, I take the Lakers in 6 smile.gif. I know I'll get crap for that one, but I figure that's the whole point of this thread. I just think the Bulls would be eaten up inside. The Kobe/Michael matchup would be glorious to see ( no, I dont want to see old Michael versus young Kobe).

P.S. Depending on the year you pick for the Bulls, Horace could be on both teams too.

We might want to wait until a game of the championship series is actually played before crowning the Lakers as the greatest team in history.

I'm probably wrong, but I believe it's possible for the 76ers to give the Lakers a tough time. Mutumbo could do no worse than either of the Spurs big men.

If the refs were to actually call fouls on Shaq, particularly offensive fouls the series could be interesting. But that's the stuff of fantasy.

I predict Shaq will take Iverson out of Game One with a forearm.

Prediction: you will see Kobe hold Iverson to < 20 points in at least one game in this series.

As for the series as a whole, Lakers in 5.

I have no idea about Lakers vs. Bulls, but I do see Shaq as an unmatched advantage in such a matchup. Every Bulls strength has a Lakers response.

I've been trying to figure out if the 76ers can grab a game from Philly. They have been stretched out in consecutive 7 game series, and have a ton of nagging injuries. The Iverson/Mutumbo combo is the best thrown at the Lakers so far, but it wont be enough. Expect to see Todd McCullough getting a lot of playing time (its the 76ers completely uncoordinated, unathletic version of the Twin Towers). I agree with Redman, and expect the 76ers to have a very difficult time putting up enough points against the Lakers D. Mutumbo wont get his cheap baskets to go against Shaq, Horace will do just fine against Tyrone Hill. Rick Fox does an amazing job of annoying the hell out of anyone he's assigned to (in this case Aaron Mckie). Derrick Fisher/Erik Snow is a wash at best for Philly, and I really do think that Iverson's performance will drop significantly when he has to deal with the long arms and tenacious D of Kobe.

I believe that it will be the Lakers in 5 over the 76ers, in almost every matchup it looks like the lakers can't be stopped. I am a 76ers fan, and I find it hard to see Shaq and company matching the heart and toughness that Iverson and the boys bring.

Logic says Lakers in 5

Heart say 76ers in 7

In a stunning upset the 76ers in 6. We all know what Shaq and Kobe bring to the table, but can the role players keep hitting the 3's at the ridiculous percentage they did against the Spurs?

The Bulls would win in 6.

First off the Bulls could go with this lineup Jordan, Pippen, guards; Kukoc, Rodman forwards; insert a stiff at center.

Pippen or Jordan can guard Kobe but Kobe can only guard Pippen or Jordan. Bulls have 3 stiffs at center to hack a shaQ. The forwards are push.

This comparing kobe to MJ at 22 is silly because MJ wasn't in the NBA at age 18. MJ played for a suck @ss Bulls team until they finally put together a decent squad. Kobe came to a playoff tem with Shaq already there. MJ had to be the man facing double and triple teams kobe team mate shaq is the on facing double and triple teams.

I still like T McGrady a lot more than Kobe. If Webber is smart he would take the salary exception slot in Orlando and team up with G Hill and T Mac

Any of the Bulls team would crush the Lakers in the championship? How soon we forget Jordan isn't human he's unbeatable. Just 2 years ago the Lakers got swept by the Jazz in the 2nd round. The lakers are overrated IMO no matter how dominating they are today, they would get their asses handed to them.

Micheal Jordan is the greatest there's no odds he can't overcome on the basketball court.

Sure, Jordan is probably the best player in NBA history at this point in time. Does that mean his team can beat any challenge? Of course not. If I remember correctly, they never came close to sweeping through the playoffs. Even in their 72-10 year, didnt it take 6 games to beat the Sonics in the Finals? I dont buy this offhand dismissal of the current team. Please provide matchups and analysis rather than generic dissing, BIGDC. BTW, I am FAR from a Lakers fan, so this isnt coming out of bias.

I also dont buy the big guard theory. When I have a bit more time, I'll do the full on breakdown.

Thats the thing chosenone when it comes to Jordan all of the positional breakdowns and all that garbage goes out the window. You can try to measureup the matchups but it's just assumptions Jordan performed and was never denied from anything (except baseball). Jordan and Pippen were a hell of a duo, and have never been stopped from getting that championchip what makes the lakers so special.

and in that 72-10 season they went 15-3 in the playoffs, the reason why they went 6games in the finals is simple the championship had to be won in Chicago. If my memory serves me corrects all 6 were won in Chicago.

That's a bit arrogant there, BIGDC. I could say the same of any game that the Bulls dropped. I fully expected a tight game with the Lakers coming off a long rest. Even so, the Lakers pulled back even and it took OT to decide the game. I think this is the best shot the 76ers had at taking a game, and indeed they pulled it off. I still see the Lakers in 5.

And I still think I'd take this team over those Bulls. Don't get me wrong, that was an excellent team engineered around Jordan, run beautifully, and the series would be extremely close. However I simply dont think they would take the Lakers. And as far as that fanboy "never denied" shtick, that's ludicrous. One player never won a championship, and it took Jordan many years to win the title.
