SlobberKnockinFootball
I'm in the market for 4 brand new tires for my 2001 Avalon XLS. Does anyone recommend one brand more than the other? I'd like to hear what everyone's opinions.
gbear
MIchelin seem to run the smoothest/quietest on our honda civic. Our Corolla has crap from Pep Boys which I hate! The ones from pepboys are loud on the road, and it took my car from being quiet to loud (of course I'm in a little bit of denial blaiming that all on the tires and not the 160k miles I have on the car). Still, 10k more on these tires, and I'll replace them with Michelins too. Just when I bought these tires I had some strut problems and was tearing through tires at a fast rate so I refused to pay much for them. We just bought 4 Michelins for the honda civic a few weeks ago from Costco. With installation, waranty, and rebate, 4 tires cost around $330. Their pretty decent noise wise. They drive just like the ones my wife bought the car with.
TheKurp
I'll second the Michelin recommendation. The 4Runner I just bought back in March came with Dunlops. The minute they need replacing I'm going to purchase 4 Michelin LTX tires.
Leonard Washington
michelins are good. i got toyo proxies now and they are ok. i would recommend a name brand tire. i learned through a 70mph+ 4 tire blowout that offbrand tires are cheap for a reason. SlobberKnockinFootball
Yea, the tires i'm looking at are Michelin's and they go for about $110 a tire at Mr. Tire. Is that high? Or is that about in the right neighborhood?
RicRod
go to www.tirerack.com and read the reviews. I have ordered 3 sets from these guys. Call if you have any questions, very friendly and you save compared to the local chains.
gbear
At that price, you should consider going to Costco. If you don't have a membership, the price in the tires will make up for it. That's actually why my wife and I got a membership. Give them a call and get a quote. See if it is $45 less than what you are being quoted (ask about the rebate too if you're going with michelin, it may still be going on).
TheKurp
The trouble with purchasing at Tirerack is that you still have to pay someone to mount and balance them. Typically that runs about $10 per tire. When you add it all up it's still cheaper to buy tires at Costco.
SlobberKnockinFootball
What about Yokohama Tires? Anyone have any input on these tires??
just skins baby
I recommend Michelin also. Just a very smooth ride. Costco will mount balance and rotate for the life of the tire. Also Costco now uses Nitrogen in place of air. Says it is the wave of the future. The Nitrogen molecules apparantly will stay constant and keep a constant pressure on your tires. riggins44
Like others have said, price your tires at COSTCO or Sam's Club.
tex
Can't go wrong with Toyo tires. Consistently rated top quality. I run them on all my vehicles.
Brave
My father has an Avalon and he went through 3 or 4 sets of tires and kept returning them for one reason or another. Then he got some Michelins and he's been happy.

Duke
Originally posted by SlobberKnockinFootball What about Yokohama Tires? Anyone have any input on these tires?? I've used set of Yoko with my old Nissan 240SX. They were very good on the road and quiet. Though, they seemed to wear down a bit quicker due to the tire compound is softer than average. I like them. Duke
BTW, my Land Cruiser now using a set of Michelin LTX. Nothing wrong and very impressive in quietness.
