aREDSKIN
Man this sounds to me to be unusual. Something going down? Any Navy insights would be helpful. A major exercise soon to be underway will have a large part of the Navy fleet deploying out of Norfolk. WAVY News 10 has learned the Navy is sending seven carrier strike groups out to sea. The exercise is designed to test the Navy's new rapid deployment readiness. Several Norfolk-based carrier strike groups will participate. The USS George Washington is already deployed. Two others, the USS Enterprise and USS Harry S Truman will leave soon. Other carriers involved in the exercise include the USS John F. Kennedy, the USS John S. Stennis, and the USS Ronald Reagan - which left Norfolk on Thursday. While the Navy won't say where the seven carrier groups are going, the carriers not already deployed are expected to be gone for only one to two months. http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=1902088&nav=23ii0Elx
Mr. S
I watched the movie Midway last night, and watching that makes me realize even more the importance of a carrier in the seas.
Fred Jones
I wonder if this is simply an exercise or something else?

thew
Wow, Who are we going to attack? No way we muster a 4 carrier strike forces for something in particular without actually dropping bombs on somebody. Seven? That's more carriers than we have in the Atlantic typically. Figure one carrier in either Ocean is in port for something or is none operational... 7 carriers is a huge deal. Nimitz Class.. These are the newest and most powerful [1] USS Nimitz (CVN 68), San Diego, Calif. [2] USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69), Newport News, Va. (1)[3] USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Bremerton, Wash. [4] USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN 71), Norfolk, Va. (2)[5] USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), Everett, Wash.[6] USS George Washington (CVN 73), Norfolk, Va. (3)[7] USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74), San Diego, Calif. [8] USS Harry S. Truman (CVN 75), Norfolk, Va. (4)[9] USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), San Diego, Calif. Enterprise Class.. [10] USS Enterprise (CVN 65), Norfolk, Va (5) John F. Kennedy.. Not a Nuke [11] USS John F. Kennedy (CV 67); Mayport, Fla (6) Kitty Hawk Class Not a Nuke [12] USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63), Yokosuka, Japan Syria or Iran? Could be just a show of force of Syria's coast to get them to tighten up that boarder a little. Still this show of force leaves us very seriously thin say in the Straight of Taiwan. Seven Carriers is also very expensive........ Oh boy..
Brave
I'll bet there's a lot of slightly nervous eyes in foreign lands watching these groups VERY carefully. I would also be a bit unsettled if I was a resident in the vicinity of Norfolk.
John0397
DON'T GET YOUR PANTIES IN A BUNCH! It's all part of naval exercises coordinated with ships from other countries. We have some british ships here waiting to go out. There will be a number of war game exercises conducted over the next few weeks off the coast of Virginia and North Carolina.
