Mickalino
The Texans have grabbed the legendary Leomont Evans Casserly had this to say about his "prized signings" : "Today represents the first of many steps towards building our inaugural roster,” Of course you have many steps to go, Charley !! You just took 10 steps backwards by signing Evans
OrangeSkin
Leomont Evans? Oh man, they'll be down for decades. I wouldn't count Casserly out though. He was the one responsible for drafting Champ, Arrington, and Samuels. The guy has a knack for the draft.
bulldog
actually, Casserly was gone when Arrington and Samuels were drafted. Charley had his moments with the Skins when he plucked some real contributors out of obscurity. Brad Edwards, Danny Copeland, Jumpy Geathers, Brian Mitchell, Eric Williams....free agents such as Terry Allen, Ken Harvey....... but he has had his share of flops, especially in the first couple of rounds of the draft. We don't know how much input Norv had in some of the more high profile selections early on, ie Shuler and Westbrook......but the picks of Andre Johnson, Kenard Lang and the signing of Dana Stubblefield have to rank up there with some moves that didn't pan out as expected, although we may finally be getting some value out of Lang. Another stinker was Stanley Richard, whom I tend to think Ron Lynn lobbied the organization to sign from San Diego. We will see what Casserly does in Houston because Capers is clearly hired to be the HC only and Charley will be calling the shots on personnel. With Bledsoe, Brunell and Dilfer potentially in play in the offseason the Texans might not be that bad their first year. A veteran qb with a little help at receiver could get this team a few wins in 2002.
Ford
It's always funny when an XFL player makes his way onto an NFL roster .. only decent one of the bunch is Cortez out in SF. I think in general Casserly was a pretty good GM, if I had to pick his worst move though, it would be giving away a first rounder for Sean Gilbert. ------------------ The Redskins HQ Forum RedskinsHQ.com
bulldog
The Redskins decision to spend 2 #1 draft choices, 1 #3 draft choice and $30 million plus in salary to attempt to shore up the middle of their defensive line by acquiring Gilbert, Stubblefield and Wilkinson to play DT in succession was one of the least productive in team history. When you see teams like Baltimore acquire both of their DT's in free agency for good but not bank-breaking deals while not having to give up any draft picks, you know the Redskins failed to get value. The Artist
Actually, in a weird way the giving up a first round pick for Sean Gilbert was the best thing Charley ever did. Without Gilbert and his rights, we don't have Champ or LaVar right now. Actually, maybe we should thank Dom Capers for his worst move ever. The Dark Horse
The only reason Casserly has a job is because Mike Ditka was out of his mind and we were lucky enough that no one in front of us took Ditka up on his madness. Heck, even the two first rounders that had to be paid for Sean Gilbert were really more the case of Carolina shooting themselves in the foot than something Casserly did. Look at his first three choices in his drafts. On top of this, remember that Casserly also traded three(3!) first round picks, a single second round pick, and three third round picks for Brad Johnson, Sean Gilbert and Big Daddy. 1992: Desmond Howard, Shane Collins, Paul Siever 1993: Tom Carter, Reggie Brooks, Rick Hamilton 1994: Heath Shuler, Tre Johnson, Tydus Winans 1995: Michael Westbrook, Cory Raymer, Darryl Pounds 1996: Andre Johnson, Heath Irwin, Stephen Davis 1997: Kenard Lang, Greg Jones, Derek Smith 1998: Stephen Alexander, Skip Hicks, Shawn Barber 1999: Champ Bailey, Jon Jansen, Nate Stimpson There are some good picks here but there are a lot more busts. No team can afford to have that many busts with picks that high and expect to field a quality team. NavyDave
D@mn! we had more strike outs during CC drafts than the Brewers did this year. ------------------ Take A Sip of the Marty KoolAid and Believe.
CWBYH8R
Desmond Howard was drafted by Joe Gibbs and fought with Casserly over it. Gibbs later admitted he over estimated Howards ability. Heath was drafted by Norval, Casserly wanted Dilfer Casserly always defered to the coaches if they felt very strong about it or it was settled by Cooke. To me if you could get 1 or 2 good starters every year and some role players you have had a good draft ------------------ HTTR Mark from SoCal
