I got a groin injury also, luggin' this thing around is a killer! The Dr. said I shouldn't be lifting heavy things.

At the same time, funny how Bruce Smith's 'bruised' shoulder has taken 4 weeks. And he actually IS still listed on the injury report.

Sandbagging? Or is our d-line vulnerable from the get-go?

Bruce said it too... the Chargers are going to RUN at this defense.

We'll see how it holds up. Luckily the Chargers aren't a true litmus test for a defense.

DH, is this another example of you taking injury at face value? Your 'quote' around 'bruised' would almost lead me to believe you think it's something more. He's had two opinions. Both came back with the diagnosis that he's got a bruise. I'm racking my brain, but, in all the world, I can't recall a shoulder bruise that took four regular season weeks to heal. How about you?

Hmm, it almost makes you think the preseason is less important to an 11-time Pro Bowl player than the regular season. Perhaps? Maybe? Come on brother.

I'm not so sure the Chargers will stick to the run unless we just CAN'T stop them at all. There best weapons are their WRs and TEs IMHO. Conway, Graham and Jones are a formidable receiving trio. Flutie still has the skills to get the ball to them. I can't imagine them ignoring that firepower jsut to run their late-holdout RB. We'll see Sunday.

Injury aside... Bruce hasn't faced live action for the past month. Reps are invaluable.

Funny how a team can be blamed for 'rustiness' after a bye week or an extended layoff but Bruce Smith can take a month off - related to injury no less - and the rule doesn't apply to him.

If people here can maintain our offensive line woes during the preseason have been caused in part to the lack of cohesion with players playing out of position due to injuries or competition... I don't how our defensive line could have benefitted by the absense of Bruce Smith.

I'm racking my brain, but, in all the world, I can't recall a shoulder bruise that took four regular season weeks to heal. How about you?

I can't recall. smile.gif However wasn't Jeff George's injury only supposed to take 3-4 days to heal? Didn't that almost take 3 weeks? Certainly longer than anyone expected that's for sure.

Die Hard, meet Bruce Smith. Bruce, meet Die Hard.

Bruce: Hi. How ya doing?

Q: Bruce, how long have you been in the league?

Bruce: 16 years. This is my 17th season.

Q: Have you ever played in the Pro Bowl?

Bruce: You kidding man? Something like 11 times man.

Q: I've heard, you are like 10th or something on the all-time sack list, is that right?

Bruce: Dude, I'm second. I'll be first.

Q: How do you feel about training camp?

Bruce: Hate them. I hold out almost every year so I don't have to participate. My little secret.

Q: Your shoulder injury must be pretty severe to miss so much camp time this year?

Bruce: Oh. Sure. These bruises can take a long time to heal. You know. In fact, I was surprised by just how much it did heal right after we broke camp. Kind of amazing. I even started practicing again right after that. You know?

Q: Bruce, why did you just wink at me?

Bruce: Ask Marty.

Q: Marty, what do you think about Bruce winking at me?

Marty: Oh, Bruce is crafty. I liked how he told you all two to six weeks he'd be out for that shoulder bruise. You know what he was telling you?

Q: What's that?

Marty: He was saying, "I can be out for the preseason, or you (coach) can screw around, force me to practice, and I'll be out two regular season games just to teach you a lesson."

Q: He needs his reps though coach?

Marty: You're talking about 16-year vet Bruce Smith. He's had his reps.

Q: Gotcha.
