TransAsia Airways crashes in Taiwan, at least 40 dead

Over 40 people are feared dead after a TransAsia Airways plane crashed Wednesday while making an emergency landing in bad weather in the Penghu Islands off the coast of Taiwan.

 

Taiwan's CNA news agency, which initially put the death toll at 51, reports that the twin-engine turboprop ATR 72 crashed just outside Magong airport around 7 p.m.local time. Other reports put the death toll at around 45, with as many as nine people injured.
