2012 Rookie Discussion, all spots (preliminary ROY talk)

So we have a thread for Rookie QB discussion, I thought maybe having a thread to discuss rookie players of all positions would be good too. This would also be somewhere we can get silly and discuss preliminary expectations for ROY.

So my (non-thorough) thoughts:

Good Week 1 performers (aside from QBs):

Doug Martin - no TDs, but 95 yards is solid for a rookie

Alfred Morris - duh

Stephen Hill - it's tough to see him playing like that all year, but really good game nonetheless

Alshon Jeffrey - while everyone ragged on him about his weight, he quietly proved himself getting 80 yards and a TD last week.

Fleener - 82 yards. Solid debut for the kid.

Bad Week 1 performers:

Richardson - he certainly did not look like the next AP last week....

Wilson - sort of sucks he got pulled after his 2nd carry, but he did fumble

Quick - no catches, or even targets in week 1. too early to read too far into it, but you'd expect more out of him, especially since St. Louis picked him 10 spots before Stephen Hill.

AJ Jenkins - same reason as Quick, though he has more competition in SF.

There are plenty of other guys who had middle of the road performances (Wright, Blackmon), and the jury is still out on tons of guys including everyone above. I'm looking forward to following a lot of these guys through this year.

The Browns rushed Richardson back.

Watching him play Sunday, he just had no burst through the hole. Not like the holes were huge, but he got 19 touches and only 39 yards. He couldn't plant and get vertical.

The Browns screwed themselves. Bad.

Some stats I just pulled up :

Justin Blackman (JAX) - 3 rec, 24 yards, 0 TD (starting)

Kendall Wright (TEN) - 5 rec, 37 yards, 0 TD (starting)

Travis Benjamin (CLE) - 1 rec, 12 yards, 1 carry 35 yards, 0 TD

Joe Adams (CAR) - 3 PR 28 yards, 1 KR 31 yards

LaVon Brazill (IND) - 1 rec, 10 yards, 0 TD

Looks like all the other WR's were inactive, IR'd, practice squad, or had no stats. These include Reuben Rangle (NYG), Brian Quick (CLE), AJ Jenkins (SF), Michael Floyd (ARI), and Ryan Broyles (DET) among others.

Luck's TE Coby Fleener had 6 catches for 82 yards. Dwayne Allen from Clemson got some PT but no catches. He's a blocking TE they say, anyway. James Hanna on Dallas had 1 catch for 10 yards at TE.

Offensive line....Matt Kalil apparently had a good start for the Vikings. Mitchell Schwartz started RT for Cleveland but struggled. Riley Reiff couldn't crack the starting lineup for Detroit (Jeff Backus & Gosder Cherilus starting ahead of him). Cordy Glenn from MY Georgia Bulldogs started at LT for the Bills, but he is way out of place. He's a guard, not a tackle. Jonathan Martin from Stanford started at RT for the Dolphins but struggled against the Texans. Mike Adams from Ohio State got some PT due to injury for the Steelers. Kelechi Osemele started at RT for the Ravens. Bobby Massie started at RT for Arizona. '

Guards....Kevin Zeitler allowed two sacks for the Bengals against the Ravens D. Can't get too down on that I guess. Amini Silatolu started at LG for the Panthers. LeRibeus I don't think played for us.

DE....Chandler Jones for the Patriots recorded 5 tackles, a sack, and a FF. Shea McClellin had a couple sacks last night for the Bears (week 2), but had no stats in Week 1. DE Derek Wolfe for Denver had a sack and 3 tackles.

DT.....Dontari Poe for KC had a couple tackles coming in off the bench. Fletcher Cox for Philly had 2 tackles and a sack.

LB......Luke Kuechly had 4 tackles in an average debut. Melvin Ingram for SD had 1 tackle. Dont'a Hightower for the Patriots (again) had 5 tackles, 1 fumble recovery, and a TD. Nick Perry from USC had 8 tackles for Green Bay in week 1. Don't know what he did last night. Courtney Upshaw, yet another Alabama linebacker, had a half a sack and 4 tackles for Baltimore. Mychal Kendricks had 5 tackles for Philly. Bobby Wagner (from Utah State) had 4 tackles for the Seahawks. Lavonte David had 6 tackles for Tampa Bay. Miles Burris is a 4th round pick for Oakland and had 9 tackles against San Diego.

CB....Mo Claiborne had 4 tackles waaaay back on opening night. He had a solid debut and that secondary looks to be upgraded. Stephon Gilmore had 5 tackles and a FF for Buffalo. Dre Kirkpatrick from BAMA was inactive for the Bengals in week 1. Janoris Jenkins for St. Louis had 6 tackles and a pick against Detroit. Josh Robinson from Central Florida had 4 tackles for Minnesota. Bill Bentley is a third round pick starting for Detroit, but I didn't see any stats for him. Brandon Boykin from UGA had 2 tackles coming off the bench for Philly. Josh Norman is a 5th round pick for Carolina who had 4 tackles in week 1. Corey White got some PT for New Orleans and had 4 tackles.

S......Mark Barron hit HARD for Tampa Bay and had 3 tackles and 2 PD. Harrison Smith from ND had 7 tackles for Minnesota. Tavon Wilson had 4 tackles and a pick for New England (damn Belicik!).
