DogofWar1
Citizens of ExtremeSkins, Some of you have probably heard about Google Fiber already. Basically, it's google jumping into the ISP industry, via fiber lines. Most of us in the DMV have probably either comcast, verizon, or maybe cox, and their costs aren't exactly cheap, and service isn't exactly great. Google Fiber's prices are much better cost-to-value wise than the current crop of ISPs. Here's google's pricing plan website: http://fiber.google.com/plans/residential/ And here's an article on it from Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/07/google-fiber-launches-in-kansas-city/ The plans google has are: - Free 5 Megabit speeds after $300 startup/construction fee - $25 a month 5 megabit speeds for first year, free after that, startup/construction fee is waived - $70 a month 1 Gigabit speeds, on 1 year contract. Startup/construction fee is waived - $120 a month 1 Gigabit speeds, plus Google's TV box, on 2 year contract. Startup/construction fee is waived And there's other goodies included like Google Drive (1 TB cloud storage, I believe) and as FanboyOf91 pointed out, a Nexus 7 tablet included for the TV box setup. Bolded for awesome. The problem is, this currently exists ONLY in and around KC, which isn't exactly the DMV. HOWEVER! Google has said that they will be expanding to places with the most interest. We should be one of those places (why should Chiefs fans have all the fun). I would urge you to write google about it, but there's also an online petition: www.ipetitions.com/petition/googlefiber2dmv So sign up, write google, tell your friends, and do whatever you can to build interest. And maybe, just maybe, they'll notice and come here sooner, rather than later. Thanks everyone.
