Burgold
Hey, just filed my first story with WYPR in Baltimore. Death, Alcholism, and a world premier. Charming Billy at Round House Theatre in Bethesda, MD brings to life Alice McDermott’s 1998 National Book Award Winner and best seller. Set at Billy Lynch’s wake the play brings together family, friends, and even the author. It's a piece that looks at the play and the process of adaptation. The cool thing, especially for a regional theater like Round House, is that McDermott teaches at Hopkins and so was able to be on hand and helped in the writing of the scipt and worked with the director and playwright for two years putting this show together. Pretty cool for a small theater to have someone of that caliber actively joining forces with them both on the page and the stage.
Dan T.
Congrats, Burgold. Do you have a regular gig now at WYPR, or was this a freelance job?
Burgold
Thanks. Still freelance, but they picked up the pitches for three new stories today. Big meeting tomorrow about a subject I was talking with some of you about at the end of last year. Wish me luck.
Dan T.
It's a noble thing you're doing - attempting to enlighten the citizens of Baltimore. Quixotic, but noble.
Burgold
I'm trying to convince them that they need a Redskins beat.
