goldenster95
Keep in mind, this is also the Washington Times, though Jody Fodelsey seems to be their most reliable reporter . . . Look at what the Times is using as the basis for its story . . . those ever stalwart "NFL sources" . . . And if Champ and/or his camp is really balking at the offer, it's more than likely the expected first of several bouts of posturing to get where he wants to go . . . but then again, who knows? Sides far apart The Redskins and cornerback Champ Bailey have a wide difference of opinion on Bailey's value following opening discussions Sunday night, NFL sources said. The Redskins made the opening proposal over dinner with agent Jack Reale. The terms of their offer were unclear, but sources said Bailey was expecting far more. The three-time Pro Bowl corner said he expects to be among the NFL's highest-paid defensive players. Bailey declined comment after practice. "I'm not really getting into it," Bailey said. "I'm pretty much letting Jack handle everything." Bailey is scheduled to enter unrestricted free agency next spring, where he could expect guaranteed money in the neighborhood of $18 million and average annual compensation around $7.5 million. The sides are expected to follow up on their initial conversation late this week. http://www.washingtontimes.com/sports/20030818-115038-7636r.htm
Henry
Total garbage. There is no factual evidence to back up that claim. They didn't even know the terms of the offer.
Dr. D
I really don't care No one player is more imprtant than the team. Franchise his ass and hope someone wants to pony up a couple of High draft picks.
bulldog
have you ever known a player to start off the negotiations process by saying how ecstatic he was over the guaranteed money offered by the team? what did Jansen say last year? what did Arrington say when they were negotiating his contract as a rookie?
Dirk Diggler
Where is the quote that he expects to be paid as a "top 3" defensive player or that he's upset by the "low ball offer"? Garbage...
frankbones
Since the Times reported this I guess we should expect a deal to be struck later this afternoon
BayouBrave86
Man I hope they don't break the bank over Champ Bailey. He definately isn't more important than this team.
