Going Commando
Skill position offensive, and defensive players yes.Offensive Lineman, and quarterbacks no... Please, maybe the ACC has had a couple of down seasons for QBs but it still gave us Phil Rivers and Matt Ryan. I would say the conference has been worse at putting out RBs, since only ones from Miami and then Thomas Jones and Tiki Barber have been all that good recently. Plenty of good linemen come from the conference too: D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Branden Albert, Eugene Monroe, Bryant McKinnie, Winston Justice, Vernon Carey, Jared Gaither, Duane Brown, Tyson Clabo, Gosder Cherilus, Marc Colombo, Dan Koppen, Chris Snee, Jeremy Trueblood, Damian Woody, Alex Barron, Walter Jones, Tra Thomas, and Ray Willis are all either high draft picks or starters. And I'm sure I'm forgetting people. I would take a pro-team consisting of nothing but ACC players over any other all-conference team in a heartbeat. To me a starting lineup of: Phil Rivers/Matt Ryan Clinton Portis/Frank Gore Heath Miller/Kellen Winslow Andre Johnson/Reggie Wayne Calvin Johnson/Anquan Boldin D'Brickashaw Ferguson/Walter Jones Branden Albert Dan Koppen/Jeff Saturday/Jason Brown Chris Snee Bryant McKinnie Julius Peppers Brodrick Bunkley/B.J. Raji/Vince Wilfork Kris Jenkins Mario Williams Aaron Curry/D.J. Williams/Ernie Sims Jon Beason/Vilma/James Farrior/Ray Lewis Shawne Merrmiman Antonio Cromartie Deangelo Hall Ed Reed Chris Hope/Adrian Wilson looks pretty awesome and I bet it is better across the board than any other team you could make up using Big 12 or SEC players. Going Commando
Just for fun here is my SEC team: Peyton Manning Darren McFadden/Knowshon Moreno/Joseph Addai/Ronnie Brown? Jason Witten (their only good TE) Dwayne Bowe Hines Ward (their only good receivers) Marcus McNeill/Andre Smith? Shawn Andrews Chris Spencer?/Kevin Mawae Alan Faneca Chris Samuels/Jason Peters John Abraham John Henderson Albert Haynesworth Richard Seymour Karlos Dansby Patrick Willis DeMeco Ryans (These are seriously the only three good ones from the conference) Champ Bailey Corey Webster/Carlos Rogers? Laron Landry Reggie Nelson/Jermaine Phillips? That team has stars especially on the offensive and defensive lines but it would look a lot worse if Peyton Manning had gone to a big 12 school. Then you've got Eli and Jay Cutler as your QBs. And I don't like the receivers, linebackers, or tight ends that have come out of the conference this decade. If it weren't for LSU, SEC receivers would be a complete joke. Overall, I'm surprised to find I would probably take a big 10 or pac 10 all conference team ahead of the SEC. Going Commando
Big 10 All conference team: Tom Brady/Drew Brees Marion Barber Braylon Edwards/Ted Ginn? Derrick Mason Dallas Clark/Owen Daniels Joe Thomas/Jake Long/David Diehl Steve Hutchinson Nick Mangold/Nick Hardwick Kris Dielman/Eric Steinbach Kareem McKenzie Aaron Kampman Barry Cofield/Ryan Pickett Jonathan Babineaux Kyle Vanden Bosch Chad Greenway/Lamar Woodley David Harris A.J. Hawk Charles Woodson Nate Clements/Antoine Winfield Bob Sanders Donte Whitner That's a pretty decent team but the defensive linemen and middle linebackers aren't great, and neither are the receivers. The ACC is the receiver conference, but this is the conference for offensive linemen, especially young offensive tackles. Ohio State has also put out a lot of good defensive backs. Going Commando
For those who think the ACC doesn't make good QBs, at least it isn't the big 12. There isn't a single starting QB from the big 12 in the league right now. Sam Bradford better be good to redeem his conference. Stephen McGee, Chris Simms, and Vince Young are the only Big 12 quarterbacks that are even on an NFL roster right now.
