BATON ROUGE -- Former LSU defensive standout Fred Booker has signed a free agent contract with the Washington Redskins, the team announced on Wednesday.

Booker, who spent the spring playing in NFL Europe with the Amsterdam Admirals, was a member of LSU's Peach Bowl champion team in 2000. As a member of the Admirals, Booker recorded 27 tackles and deflected four passes from his cornerback position.

In four years with the Tigers, Booker finished with 126 tackles, four interceptions and a pair of fumble recoveries. He was a Second Team All-Southeastern Conference selection in 2000 after helping the Tigers to an 8-4 overall mark and a 28-14 win over Georgia Tech in the Peach Bowl.

those final 2-3 spots on the roster saved for special teams performers will be contested over by 20 guys we bring to camp, that's the way it is every year :)

jobs in the NFL, even with expansion and the watered down rosters, are still gems and players should realize how lucky they are when they are able to claim one.
