Q-tip - the renaissance

The Villi Phanatic

I know the album dropped late last year but I didn't see anybody mention it. For all you old school Tribe fans, this album is definitely worth copping, which surprised me as I haven't really listened to Tip in 10 years and I'm generally disappointed by albums in recent years from artists who were doing their thing in the early 90s.

Looks like Tip produced every song except for one and the beats are great for the most part. Starts off with a head-nodder (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-moJ8otY7c) from the get like Excursions did on low end theory and is a very good short album with only a couple tracks I skip. The last track (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYFG6kFolPU&feature=related) has that vintage Tribe feel to it. If any of the tracks got much play on the radio I'm guessing it was probably "Move" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44BADYQc0Ls&feature=related) which switches up the beat midway through and is basically 2 separate songs in one.

Just wanted to throw this out there as I'm a huge old school Tribe fan and would have slept on this album had one of my boys not put me on to it.

I still need to check it, this and Black Milk-Tronic are the two albums from last year that I still need to buy. However, I heard the songs are a little R&Bish, which I don't like. Guess I'll see.

From last year, these are the three best hip hop albums in my opinion:

El Da Sensei and The Returners- Global Takeover and GZA- Pro Tools rounding out the top 5.

See, this is why I'm glad I made this post. I'm not as up on the underground (or current hip hop in general) as I had been a few years back so I'll miss out on some of these albums. Good looking on the Elzhi recommendations, listened through snippets of the album today and I'll probably cop it soon.

Oh, and abcd, I probably tend to agree with you re: R&B influences, but I think it works well on this album. One of the things I like about this album is that I don't think there are any guest rappers, just the guest singers, and the album has a nice feel to it as opposed to just sounding like a collection of singles.
