Tarhog
I think Rumseld has no future as a diplomat. I wish he would tone down some of his rhetoric. But what he's doing is firing a warning shot across Syria's bow. He's telling them 'we are aware you may passively support Iraq but we won't view it as passive...if you allow your citizens to aid Iraq we will view that as direct support and treat you as a combatant'. I don't think Syria wants any of us, and I don't really view the danger of this war spreading as a serious one (as long as Israel stays out of the picture). Art
Agreed Yomar. It's hard to believe Syria would attempt to intervene as such. How completely out of control must a nation be to even test the U.S. at this moment with such provocation?
Tarhog
wow..sorry, didn't look at the Fox headline...sounds like they may already be directly supporting Iraq...we'll have to wait and see what level of support this actually is...

Seriously, it wouldn't be the smartest thing in the world to provoke us when we have six carrier battle groups and 200k+ troops already in the region and already fighting in a country bordering theirs. I have a feeling that this activity will quietly stop with the Syrians publicly denying involvement or at least knowledge.

StuckinIA
Rumsfeld is not a diplomat. He is the Sec of Defense. His job is to be a hawk. The fact that he has sound bites is disturbing. BTW.....Syria is gonna get it soon. Israel has already given it one warning.
NavyDave
Diplomacy ie talking like a wuss isnt gonna work in that area of the world. The threat of a fist with brass knuckles hitting them in the jaw is more effective.
