DeathByLinebacker
Redskins | Canidate Gets A New Deal? - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)8:57 PT: The Canton Repository reports the Washington Redskins gave RB Trung Canidate a new contract, right after they traded for him. He signed a four-year, $6.5 million deal including a $1.5 million signing bonus. Why would they do that?
SonnyJ
WTF is the Canton Repository? Why would they be breaking this info? Wait a sec...you think they got this mixed up with the Noble signing? That looks awfully similar...
The Sir
They probably think he'll be really impressive and dont want to wait til his value goes up. 1.5 mil isnt that big a bonus, so its not really much of a risk.

I think that's why KFFL put a '?' at the end of the subject line after the misreporting of Noble's contract.
Zen-like Todd
Think about it... he probably took a minimum salary this year, his bonus prorates to less than 400k a year, so he wont really cost us anymore this year, but we'll have him locked up for another year or two at a cheap price once he busts out like a madman. Zen-like Todd
Wait... not the Noble contract... isnt that the Fiore contract? Grr.
NavyDave
If true we should do this with other players like Ohalete and DMac
Steve Y
I agree with hawksfan. That would be a solid deal. Not too much money up front, but if he breaks out in the system like we are all hoping then we already have him locked for a few years, but if we don't do it and he breaks out we have to fork over the big bucks to keep him. The Browns figure to be conservative players in the free-agency market. “Will we give somebody a $5 million bonus?’’ Davis said, coincidentally using the amount of Dave Wohlabaugh’s 1999 bonus. “Probably not.’’ ... Browns coaches plan to meet with quarterbacks Tim Couch and Kelly Holcomb in Berea today. Couch was sunning himself in Florida last week, while Holcomb was in Tennessee. ... Expect the Browns to go after the linebackers they released, Dwayne Rudd and Earl Holmes, if they don’t get strong free agency offers from other teams. ... Davis seems higher on cornerback Anthony Henry than on cornerback Lewis Sanders. Both are on the spot in the wake of Corey Fuller’s release. Davis said Henry and Sanders played “fairly well’’ in 2002. That said, Davis didn’t give a glowing endorsement of Rudd’s play in 2002: “He didn’t totally, totally disappoint, or he wouldn’t have been the starter.’’ ... The Redskins set a reference point for speedy little running backs when they traded for Trung Canidate and then signed him to a four-year, $6.5 million deal including a $1.5 million cash bonus. The Browns would consider offering something like that to Jamel White as the offseason progresses. You can reach Repository sports writer Steve Doerschuk at (330) 580-8347 or e-mail:
Art
We had Canidate signed for $800K and around a million for next year. If this is true, it probably is a good idea. You extend him until he's 29 at a contract you can get rid of if he blows, but, if he's good, you aren't immediately having to resign him to a bigger deal tomorrow. Of course, if he's good he'll figure he's not making enough and hold out so who knows .

That wasn't even in today's issue was it? It does seem odd that this little paper in Ohio is ahead of the Washington papers on this.
NVskinsfan
Too many stories and all of the contracts seem to mirror each other, so we need to get all of the facts straight ASAP! We have Trung for 300K this year and 1 mil next year. Lets see what he does this year before we blow much needed $$$ on him for the long run!
