The Play-Calling In the Last Three Minutes

Over the past two years, we have enough evidence that the Redskins suffer from being overmatched when it comes to the coaching during the game. Gibbs constantly says that this team will be in close games all year. Why do you think that is? Perhaps his gameplan and gametime decisions put the players in situations that better coached teams take advantage of.

As a playcaller, you stick with it even when it's not working?

well, the o-line is pretty much key no matter what you try to do. so there's no avoiding it, if they suck, your team sucks. see: wvu vs. pitt.

there's no way we should have passed the ball in that situation. we were able to run almost another minute off the clock. frost's line drive punt and our defense cost us more way more than running on 3rd down. and the whole t.o. thing.

If you want to get mad, direct your wrath at Derrick Frost for punting a low, line-driver that allowed the returner to go 20 yards and the defense for not keeping the Bills from getting downfield. In fact, the defense didn't even register a sack yesterday.

Exactly!!!! I watched the game again last night on NFL replay, and our defense was only there about half the game. Infact, if you minus one offensive off-sides and a stupid mistake by Gibbs at the end, we win!Our "D" looked promising in preseason and maybe 5-games into this season, now they sort of resemble last year at times. And the Cowpie fan was right, we need to be able to score 30 points a game. 19.3 isn;t cutting it.:point2sky

Again, it's not a matter of whether or no Portis will make the first on third-and-eight as it is taking time off the clock and putting the Bills up against the wall, forcing them to use their time-outs. Would you have rather us attempt a pass, watching it fall incomplete and stopping the clock, giving the Bills more time?

So, the question is would you like to:

A) knowing the running game isn't working, take a guaranteed 40 seconds off of the clock, and have a 95% of punting it, giving them 56 seconds to drive with no time outs?

-or-

B) Take a chance at getting a first down, so we get at least 2 more 40-second downs to run the clock down and win the game, but risk giving them the ball with 1:36 on the clock and no time-outs? (or was it 56 seconds on the clock but one time out?)

I take B. B is the play to win, especially when you play a marshmallowy soft prevent D on the other side of the ball at that point.

The play calling in the first half is not bad all year.. BUT the second half sucks! the play calling is run, run, run, punt. gibbs never lets r offence try to go win the game ever! We count on our defence to win games and they sometimes come up wit a stop, but more offten then not they dont. Gibbs needs to open up the offence in the second half.

We needed to take a chance on one of the 3 plays with a pass to get a first down. We knew the Bills would call timeout and stop the clock each time. Our ground game was terrible and the Bills stacked 8 in the box.

We've been through this song and dance all year long. Gibbs tries to run out the clock with 3 straight runs, we punt, defense falters, game over. At some point you have to be aggressive and take chances. I'm tired of hearing the "what if JC throws a pick?" argument. So effin what? We're still losing by being conservative. Why not throw it when you can get the first down 60% of the time.

I'd rather go down winging it, then curling up in the fetal position and giving the game away. Dallass and Romo sits to pee take chances all the time. And it's working. God, I'd love to have their aggressiveness on offense. So sick of the Riggo Drill. This is 2007. This is a passing league. We need to get with it, or we're gonna continue to suck.

What do we have to lose? We're 5-7 and have blown countless games already. I say just wing it these last 4 games and see how we do.

Would you have rather us attempt a pass, watching it fall incomplete and stopping the clock, giving the Bills more time? Or worse yet, seeing Campbell get hit, fumble or throw an interception? While you could question why the offense didn't put four wide receivers out there to spread the defense, then run a draw play, the special teams and defense let us down in that situations.

It's this mentality as to why we lose all the time. It's thinking negative. It's thinking about all the things that can go wrong, instead of what could go right. Gibbs needs some Anthony Robbins!

He always see's the glass half full instead taking a more positive approach of getting out the knife and slashing their throats now -- when you can. Today you have to have that kind of "Cut-Throat" attitude. Playing conservative only get's you what we have been getting since Joe has been here -- a less then 500 record.
